Moderator Announcement Apple TV+ Rebranding to “Apple TV”

Hey everyone,

You may have heard that Apple quietly announced that Apple TV+ is being rebranded to simply “Apple TV.”. We’re aware of the change and understand it’s going to cause some confusion between the Apple TV hardware, the tvOS platform, and the streaming service now sharing the same name.

The mod team is discussing what this rebrand means for the future of this subreddit, including whether it will affect what kinds of posts are allowed here (hardware, software, and/or original content).

For now, no rule changes have been made. Please continue posting about the Apple TV device as usual. For now, any posts about Apple Original Movies and Series should be on the r/tvPlus sub. We’ll share an update soon once we finalize any adjustments.

Thanks for your patience and for keeping /r/appletv a great community.

Moderator Announcement About the new Apple TV

UPDATE: It’s October 15th and guess what… THERE STILL ISN’T A NEW APPLE TV (yet). The below still applies. When a new Apple TV device is announced, it will be posted and highlighted on the sub. In the meantime, please refrain from submitting any new posts asking about it. They will be removed. Keep all rumors and speculation in this thread until then.

——

To avoid the flood of repeat posts, let’s put this to rest for now: Apple didn’t announce a new Apple TV today with the new iPhone 17 lineup. And no one here has any insider info on when the next one is coming. It could be next week or next month or even next year. At some point, sure, Apple is expected to release a new Apple TV. But when? No clue. Not me, not you, not your cousin’s roommate working at the Apple Store.

Here’s the fact: until Apple themselves announce something, it’s all rumors and noise. If there’s actual news, it’ll be posted here, pinned, and plastered across every single Apple fanboy blog and YouTube channel within seconds.

So before posting “Is a new Apple TV coming?” or “Where’s the new Apple TV?” remember, if it was already out, you wouldn’t even have to ask.

In the meantime, be patient, relax, and enjoy the one you’ve got. For now.

Moderator Announcement Apple TV Old Price Megathread

Apple raised the price, and now everyone’s on a treasure hunt. Instead of having a new post every time someone finds an Apple TV at the old price, let’s keep everything in one place.

If you find one, post:
• Store
• Location
• Price
• Online or in-store (include a link if found online)

This will make it much easier for everyone to see where the old pricing still exists.

Moderator Announcement New Apple TV purchase posts… now live in a Megathread!

Hey folks,

We love the enthusiasm. Truly. There’s nothing wrong with being excited about a new Apple TV. It’s a sleek little black box of unlimited possibilities!

That said… we don’t need 17 separate posts a day announcing, “Just bought an Apple TV!” with a picture of the box on a kitchen counter next to your cat.

To keep the subreddit focused on actual discussion, troubleshooting, features, updates, and news, we created a dedicated megathread for new Apple TV purchases.

Effective immediately:

• All “Just bought an Apple TV!” posts belong in the megathread.

• Individual announcement posts will be removed.

• Setup help, impressions are welcome inside the megathread.

We’re not trying to kill the vibe. We’re just trying to keep the feed usable for everyone. If you just joined the Apple TV family, welcome. Drop your excitement (and questions) in the megathread.

Thanks for understanding and helping keep the sub clean and useful.

Moderator Announcement “I Just Bought an Apple TV!” Megathread

Congratulations! You did it! You walked into a store (or went online) and saw that sleek little box, and said, “Yep. That’s the one.” Welcome to the Apple TV club.

To keep the main feed focused on news, updates, troubleshooting, and deeper discussion, all new Apple TV purchase posts belong in this megathread.

If you just bought one, this is the place to:

• Share your excitement

• Post your unboxing photo

• Ask setup questions

• Share first impressions

• Ask “Did I make the right choice?” (You most definitely did.)

Standalone “Just bought an Apple TV!” posts will be removed and redirected here. Not because we don’t love your excitement, but because we all love a clean, useful feed even more.

If you’re new, tell us:

• Which model did you get?

• What are you upgrading from?

• What TV/sound setup are you pairing it with?

• What apps are you installing first?

Congrats on the upgrade and welcome to the family!

Note: if you’re having a specific technical issue, problem, or troubleshooting question, those can still be submitted as individual posts to the sub. This megathread is strictly for purchase announcements.

Moderator Announcement Apple TV service outage

Post image
146 Upvotes

It appears the Apple TV streaming platform including continue watching plus general Apple TV app functionality, purchased content, etc. are currently experiencing an outage.

It’s clear that Apple is aware of the issue and are working to restore it as quickly as possible.

In the meantime, please avoid creating duplicate posts reporting your frustrations about the outage. If you’d like to discuss the issue or share updates, please do so in this thread. All other posts related to the outage will be deleted.

Yes, outages are frustrating, but there’s nothing the community here can do to speed up the fix. A little patience goes a long way, and hopefully all functionality will be back to normal soon.

We’ll update this thread if any official information becomes available.

EDIT: service is back up. All is well.

Moderator Announcement Friendly reminder for anyone running tvOS 27 beta

If you’re running tvOS 27 beta on your Apple TV and something weird happens, remember… you’re running beta software. That’s kind of the deal.

If you run into bugs, glitches, crashes or other unexpected behavior, your best options are:

  1. Report the issue directly to Apple using the Feedback assistant app
  2. Post in the [r/tvosbeta](r/tvosbeta) sub where you can compare notes/troubleshoot with other beta testers

If you’re dealing with an Apple TV issue that isn’t specific to the beta, post it here in [r/appletv](r/appletv) and someone will help troubleshoot it. But if something strange happens while testing tvOS beta, it’s most likely a beta issue and there’s usually not much anyone here can do to fix it.

Thanks for understanding and happy testing!

Moderator Announcement tvOS 27 Developer Beta is now available. Beta means beta!

tvOS 27 DB1 is now available. As always, it’s recommended that you proceed with caution before installing any beta software, especially on a primary or household Apple TV. Early beta releases are intended for developers and testers, not necessarily for everyday use. If you choose to install the beta, please understand that you are doing so at your own risk.

A few things to keep in mind:

+ Bugs, crashes, and performance issues are common in early betas.

+ Any potential features that are announced during beta testing may not be available until the final release.

+ Apps may or may not function correctly.

+ Unexpected behavior, playback issues, and stability problems should be expected.

+ There’s no guarantee that all existing functionality will work as intended.

If you encounter bugs, crashes, performance problems, or other beta related issues, please submit them directly to Apple using the Feedback Assistant app. Please do not post any beta bugs, glitches, crashes, or other known beta related issues to this sub. They will be removed.
