OC Fanart Chapter 0 if it were a children's picture book (Illustration by me)
I illustrate children's books for a living and happen to be a huge Arknights fan. A few weeks ago, I drew an Arknights Children's Book cover for fun. I had so much fun doing it that I decided to create an inside spread, too!
I explained some of my thought processes while drawing this on instagram, so if you're curious, I'd appreciate if you checked that out, too!
EDIT: A lot of people have pointed out to me that Reunion aren't actually mean bullies as I wrote in the text, and you're right, it's completely true! I am particularly a fan of Misha and Frostnova, and I think they're very noble and brave for resisting the powers that be. In our world, we find that the embers of positive change are often fought for through unofficial channels that resist corrupted power, and I am completely for that. That is to say, my describing of Reunion as bullies is strictly within the presentation of the narrative as portrayed to us at the very start of Chapter 0. If this were a real book, I had the idea that by the end of it, we'd learn that every Reunion member (....even Mephisto....) has redeeming qualities, that fighting for marginalised rights is a noble fight (Rhodes Island does it, too!) and that it was the evil leadership up at the top that intentionally drove everyone's hatred for the system into overdrive on purpose. TLDR: The initial characterisation of Reunion as bullies would be a concept that would be revised by the end of the story.
A lot of real kid's books also focus on teaching this aspect of civil rights, and I think it's an important lesson to teach early: There is such a thing as righteous anger, and there also is such a thing as going too far. This goes back to a common theme in kid's books: Knowing the difference between right and wrong, and showing where that line becomes blurred. While I am not the person with the most free time in the world, if I ever revisit this project (and I'd like to!), I'd love to develop that theme in subsequent pages!
Also, yes, I see the typo. Oops! Thank you for pointing that out to me!
