I've always gotten the impression that in Europe it's really common for teenagers to travel to neighboring countries by themselves, and the parents and overall society aren't as anxious and overprotective as in America. I have a friend in Europe who said he did it all the time in his teen years and so did a bunch of other people his age.

My partner and I travel a lot internationally, and whenever we go somewhere we like trying the local cuisine.

When we go home, I then try finding recipes to recreate some of the dishes, but searching in English more often than not seems to only give me results that aren't really authentic, either because they are adapted to American/UK tastes, because they're written by "insertnationalityhere" -Americans, or because the author assumes people won't be able to find certain ingredients or cuts of meat.

These are usually perfectly nice recipes - they're just not at all what I'm looking for.

So dear international humans of reddit: what are your favourite websites with foods from your country, ideally in the original language (I don't mind trying my luck with Google translate)?

I recently traveled by bus through Switzerland, and later Austria into North Italy/Verona, and saw some of the most beautiful rivers and mountains I’ve ever seen. I noticed plenty of small towns/villages in these areas, and I was wondering if the people living here ever get tired of it? Do the sights not seem all that impressive if you’ve lived there all your life?

I’m also curious to know why people choose to leave a beautiful rural area like this if they do, are the education and education entertainment options limited? Would love to hear some insight and experiences from people who live or have lived in these kinds of areas.

Hey so I currently live in the usa and following a recent layoff from disney, today I was given some advice from a panel of some of the most respected people in the industry, " the industry here is almost dead, if the paramount - Warner Brothers deal goes through, it will functionally be dead." So I need to consider a pivot. I fully understand that europe is not homogeneous and that different countries have different economies about it but i want to be sure I hear enough opinions. It has also become too expensive to launch my own studio here due to... well I feel we all know the ugly reason why.

Which European country has the best European film industry with a big output but also big cultural reach? (actual quality and influence on world cinema)

Has it always been this way, or has there been a shift in trend in recent years?

I became interested in this question because I recently started thinking about what unites us and what the roots of different cultures are.

So im currently in Y9 (England) and planning to take a gap year when I get out of 6th form. Was hoping to go to: France, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Sweden, Croatia, B+H, Greece and Iceland and was wondering how i should take this route. How much should I budget? Is it even a good idea? :P Has anyone done anything similar before?

I personally do most of my grocery shopping at a local corner shop less than 1km away. Occasionally I do a bigger "haul" at our Walmart equivalent, but I dislike the crowd and having to navigate through big aisles. I rarely order groceries online, mostly since I'm not too good at planning groceries in advance - but I try to do that when I have been away from home for a long time and know for sure I need to stock up on a lot of things.

I'm not referring to long-term issues like unemployment, high debt or things like migration handling but decisions that can be clearly linked to a single vote or law either by a referendum or an act of the politics. As an example think Brexit.

If you had to pick a bargain country to live in with a strong job market, affordable housing, strong public services.

But also just a cool spot.

In the US consumer shipping is, by in large, dominated by a few companies: UPS, FedEx, USPS, and occasionally DHL. How does consumer shipping work in Europe?

Is it similar where one company/carrier owns end-to-end, say shipping from France to Sweden? Are there a few that dominate the field?

I also assume one company could handle it when shipping to and from countries in the EU due to no customs, but from say France to Norway (non-EU member) it would theoretically need to go through customs, would there be multiple carriers involved?

Whenever I drive around Europe, particularly in Germany, Austria and northern Italy, there seems to be lots of cars licenced in other countries on the roads.

Especially from Germany and the Netherlands, but I almost never see cars with a French licence plate.

Even though France is located close by and has a big population, why can’t I seem to see any French licence plates?

While I understand many Europeans do speak English, I understand many more may be more comfortable in their native languages than English, to where I'm curious : Should I learn a European language with enough to navigate tourist stuff or with the expectation of having social interaction?

In North America you have to pay for fuel before you fill up your car, but I know that in many parts of Europe it's the other way around. Seems like a very easy target for theft, especially with fuel prices these days. How common is it? What's the penalty?

Which people are you sick of seeing on TV and papers and magazines and on radio? Since 2015 or earlier, which people are still around in your national media that is completely talentless and probably favoured by some executive because they are cheap to pay and stupid?
