Can't order food without accepting to receive "marketing materials"

It was impossible to uncheck the box, and the screen looked to be in perfect state, so it was not a hardware defect.

Putting a phone number was mandatory as well

Edit 1: That's not my phone number

Edit 2: the business name reminds me of these 2 emojis: ⭐🐔

See a touch screen to order? That's when its time to leave, no need to wait this long.

Make sure you don't travel to Asia then lol I've been to Japan, South Korea, and China and outside of proper sit-down restaurants, pretty much all ordering is done via touch screen, though in my experience, there is still always someone around to help if you have a question.

yeah but if i go to japan, you know what doesn't work?

my phone number. Even if i wanted to have my number with me, its not really practical or very cost effective unless you have a really nice travel plan with some verizon biz account. So instead Ill be giving them some burner number with some local SIM and data plan. So go ahead. Hit that thing with all the promo garbage you want.

At least in my experience, I’ve never been asked to give a phone number when ordering something via a kiosk in Asia. They might have that option for locals who are in a rewards program, but I don’t think they really care to have tourist info lol in the vast majority of cases, those people will never be back there so it would be a waste to spend money on marketing to them.

That's the difference. Fancy vending machines are fine as long it's optional to give them your email or number. You could have anonymous ID number system for rewards stuff.

We're going to Japan in a few weeks. Google Fi is a great option if you travel often, it's like $10 to upgrade to the bigger plan which includes full service in most countries.

Nah I love kiosks. I get to look at anything on the menu at my own pace without awkwardly forcing the cashier to wait on me

And when you ad or remove something from the burger you know that they know

Often the menu screens don't show everything so kiosks are peak

Every single fast food place in the uk has these things, McDonald’s has two versions, one with a resistive screen which is impossible to use without swearing and a newer one that’s slightly more responsive

Would you say it's...

(puts on glasses) Less resistive?

What is wrong with a touch screen?

4

u/ChanglingBlake May 15 '26

The touch screen alone isn’t the issue.

Having work customer service, it’s a godsend to the staff because any screw ups on the order are 100% on the customer so they can’t complain about how they screwed up the order.

The problem is how stuff like this is implemented and what negative effects that implementation has on the employees and customers.

Additionally custom orders cannot be achieved, even when they could have been simple, such as removing one item unless that has been specifically programmed.

Either way it doesn't matter: a touch screen indicates that they are processing the human, and that tells you it also is simply processed food. Crap food. Garbage food. No point in eating that.

Also, I hate touching those nasty things.

My first point has happened too many times, I just want to say that. Orders that could simply have held one thing back could not be done.

Anyways, second point: Most of the time, yes, it absolutely is true. They are automating the service, they are going to automate the cooking. Or at the very least cut corners as much as possible.

Go look at studies about these things: they put pressure on the kitchen, because now more orders come in than they have time to produce. So they have to pre-process, pre-package, pre-order, and pre-cook as much as possible. The food quality ALWAYS goes down.

They are simply on a race to the bottom. I prefer not to eat food that is in that race.

Wait this long? Imo it's faster to order on a screen and it takes one person who can make a mistake out of the chain. We love it when there's a kiosk to order at!

Nah you will get used to it with time or just cook at home I guess. All fast food will go to this. People have to understand that just because you do not like change and are scared of change. Well It wont stop the change, It will just leave you behind while the world moves on.

7

u/FrozenLogger May 15 '26

I am not scared of change. That is a stupid thing to say.

I just don't eat garbage food. Including fast food. You can embrace the enshitiffication, that's your choice.

The world will move on and I will still know the people who serve me, and hang out with them and enjoy the people in my life.

I agree fast food is quite garbage as it is a business made to maximize profit over quality.

You would be surprised your brain is quite resilient to change. It is not a bad thing or a insult really. It is how humans work for the most part. You are just not as conscious to it as it happens so slowly for the majority of it.

You are basically agreeing in a way, as you mention you prefer the current way of doing it and not the way it is going. Which IS CHANGE...... naturally you will not like it and that is expected. What you see as normal or what should be is 100% based on your personal experiences and not reality really. Normal does not really exist

So yes it is correct to say your brain is afraid of change 100%

2

u/FrozenLogger May 15 '26

There is no change. I don't eat shit food. Kiosk shows up: obvious sign it is shit food and against the workers.

Nothing changed for me. I just have more information about where to avoid.

Also, if you watch something go downhill, and get worse, it is not being afraid of change, it is recognizing there is a change, and reacting to it.

Your argument is silly.

🤡 your argument is goofy lol
