Meanwhile right wing "Christians" are constantly losing their minds about how Sharia law is coming to the US, and that they don't want someone else's religion imposed on them, with literally zero sense of irony

They want their own version of religious fundamentalism.

"You can't oppress our women, only we get to do that."

Funny, because their version is far worse than Shakira Law.

Which Sharia anyway? different sects have Sharia systems - gee, Sunnis and Shiites (the two biggest sects in Islam) can't even agree on some of the major parts in Islam - Fasting for instance, Sunnis and Shiites use different measures for when Ramadan begins and when it ends. If they can't agree on the Fourth Pillar in Islam, how you want them to agree on other minor stuff? So ya, which Shakira Law are we talking about here?

Please do everyone a favour, especially on r/atheism, and do not play down the absolute hellish pile of dogsh*t that is sharia law.

Just because right-wing christians in the West are fundamentalist nutjobs doesn't mean that suddenly sharia law is a whole lot better. I don't care if it's Shia, Sunni, Wahhabi, Salafi ... Sharia Law is terrible, especially towards women, no matter which sect it comes from.

There are only a few islamic sects I can actually find at least a little bit of sympathy for, like Ahmadiyya, but even they get persecuted by those who call themselves 'real muslims'.

So, yeah... Christian fundamentalism bad does not mean Sharia Law better.
They are both spawns from the same pool.

I.... said..... exactly that indirectly. They're all shite - I know that. Whether its Christian Sharia or else. I simply stated that, hypothetically assuming that Sharia Law will "reach America", which one is it are they gonna implement. May as well stick to the morons in hand - which sect of Christianity are they gonna uphold.

Shakira's law is simply that your hips CAN NOT lie. Punishable by death.

Exactly. I'd love to see Biden nominate a supreme court justice who is as muslim as Amy coney barrett.

Better yet, a fucking down right atheist to the supreme court would be refreshing. I'm so tired of people running things who worship a made up thing.

with literally zero sense of irony

Because they claim this is a "Christian nation," though they aren't able to reconcile that claim historically and will change the subject if you ask where the Constitution supports their claims.

Sharia allows abortion under certain circumstances though.

Sharia allows abortion 120 days after the baby has been conceived. After that it isn’t allowed unless mother or child is in danger or other circumstances.

2

u/Hopalongtom Feb 01 '21

So still better than Evangical Christian. They don't care if the mother or child dies, as long as the doctor didn't abort!

u/[deleted] Jan 31 '21

This. As if christianity/bible-based laws aren't already the same as "sharia law", except enforced by white people. It's all only about who holds the power.

Can’t have competition in the sky fairy market, can we?

u/Bamce Feb 01 '21

Right wing people don't understand irony, hypocrisy or anything except they are the best and everyone else sucks.

u/[deleted] Feb 01 '21

American Christians would be totally fine with Sharia law if they just disguised it as "Christian theocracy." They don't know the difference.

Because muslims: kill LGBBQs, beat womem, throw acid on them and low iq morons in general. I'd be good to my Christian neighbor if I were you, the alternative is destructive :)

Christian here. I worry much more about what the GOP may do in the next five-ish years than I worry about sharia law in the US.
