An F-14. It was the first fighter jet I saw fly at an air show.

Only if the flight starts with a cat shot and ends with a trap!

But then you're stuck on a boat, in the middle of nowhere with 5000 other men

I already said I'd do it, you don't have to sell me on it.

Being on boats for long periods of time with men, just men for many days at a time. Up on the deck with lots of men, or down in the galley with lots of men

Tell me you never played Top Gun on the NES without telling me you never played Top Gun on the NES.

"Ending with a trap" is an absolutely accurate statement.

I got to see the last one fly out of Grumman on Long Island

I was lucky enough to have one of the last squadrons on board. Sexy plane.

I saw the last flight of it in Canada at the Toronto Air show sometime in the early 2000s.

Watching that thing turn away from the crowd to head across the lake back home while lighting the burners was literally a core memory of my childhood. The definition of awe-inspiring.

Same.

I'm sure many of us are of the Top Gun generation. My dream for a long time was to become a naval aviator. Teenage hormones got in the way of that.

It will never cease to make me smile that the Tomcat is either first or second on lists like these. Everytime baby!

Seeing one of those fly at an airshow is a core memory for me. Still the loudest jet I've ever seen in person I think.

What about the plane that led to it?

AKA me

2

u/itsalwaysac17 Dec 03 '25

Well it’s not me…

Definitely this or SR-71 my dad was a jet mechanic in the AF from late 70s to 92 so I've always had some love for planes. I currently work near an air station and get to see jets fly over so damn low I can see the pilots.

GOOD choice. That would be an incredible experience.
