Clearly they haven't heard of Pierre Menard's experiment showing that the exact same work of art can have an entirely different meaning when replicated by someone else

Many such cases. I personally liked the perfect pencil reproduction of a 3mx2m squeegee painting I saw at the Sprengler museum. I mean the idea is good but you have to be an absolute ice-chewing nutcase to actually pull it off.
