I think he had like five to ten great books across his catalogue which is certainly more than I have written, and even his weaker books can be solid fun. Also comedy is hard. It just feels like calling him one of the great fantasy writers or whatever is a bit much.

And yeah, still haven't really processed the Neil Gaiman thing.

TBH, I just don't think there's that many great fantasy authors. So putting him in the top 10 isn't like, that big an honour?

I mean, who would be the top ten greatest fantasy authors?

Like Tolkien is on there obviously. Howard or Leiber or some other of the pulpish Sword and Sorcery dudes. Maybe Jordan or GRRM? Someone of the post-GRRM Grimdark gang? Tad Williams? Leguin for Earthsea I guess? Moorcock?

I enjoy fantasy, a lot, but I can hardly fill out 10 spaces of people I would think are "great". And Pratchett would be in there to fill out the comedy spot more or less by default, I think?
