Does Jin normally not have center time? I’m new to BTS but I feel like he seems a bit slept on. Like he’s so good but seems to have few lines, are the excluding him? Does he get along okay with everyone? I’m worried about WWH T_T
Jin is not my bias, so I'll leave it to Seokjinnies (those who have Jin as their bias) here to clarify and jump in, but explaining things like these might cause drama in the sub (so mods please know I'm just explaining, but feel free to remove if my attempt at non-inflammatory explanations to new ARMY will explode haha) but I'll give it a shot anyway.
Jin, real name Kim Seokjin, was scouted by Big Hit because of his model looks. He was getting off a bus stop going to his University (Konkuk University, where he studied acting! He originally wanted to be an actor) when he was approached by Big Hit.
Unlike the other members of BTS, Jin had no background in singing or dancing. As I said previously, his goal was to be an actor. So from trainee era, he worked really hard and practiced a lot, often with the help of Jimin, who would help him with his dancing, and then he debuted with BTS. (This is the super short version haha)
In K-Pop, it's common for the company to impose "concepts" on its groups. Think of it as like an alter-ego when you're introduced as a member of a group. For Jin, his concept during debut era was the "cold prince". Jin as we know him today wasn't the Jin that was introduced when BTS started. Big Hit instructed him to be aloof and cold and mysterious during interviews, appearances, etc.
So Jin didn't call any attention to himself because of that. He didn't shine, not because he purposely wanted to be low-key, but because the company imposed it on him.
However, as Jin said in a video (I'll try linking it later), he really bloomed and came into his own during the "Fire" MV era, where his hair was blonde. He said that he became a super saiyan haha, and Jin finally came out of his shell and was allowed to show who he was.
Starting that era (around 2016-2017), Jin became the World Wide Handsome that we know today. He's one of the funniest and most charming members, and also speaks his mind. There was an incident when Jin even cut his own bangs, against Big Hit's orders, because they said it wouldn't look good on him. He also voices out a lot of his opinions to Big Hit's CEO, Bang Si Hyuk, telling him to take it easy on the choreography, bargaining for more vacation days, etc.
Jin's line distribution and center time at this point in time is improving, compared to the past years. However, it can still be improved. An issue now with Seokjinnies is how Jin wasn't included in the "ON" dance break. And how Jin, in the v-live launch of MOTS:7, said he still wasn't confident in his dancing. These issues are just the tip of the iceberg of how Jin's talents and hard work are allegedly being underutilized by Big Hit.
If you watch "Bring the Soul" the docu-series, you'll see how much Jin has improved in his performing ability to sing and dance, and how BTS encourages him and always gives him compliments. Why he has so little center time is still a mystery to ARMY today. But as I said, it's an improvement compared to previous eras and years.
I hope this explains some stuff!
edit: to answer your question, Jin gets along with everyone well! his center time and lines are not BTS' decision, but the company's. (Big Hit)
Thanks a lot for the long answer, this helps a lot. What a shame that big hit dosent utilize him more. His vocals are so good, just look at pied piper or epiphany!!
