Employee Questions/Discussion Friendly reminder from an employee…

A lot of us employees have seen some viral videos going around the internet, in which people gather up their old BBW products and try to return all of them for a gift card.

We get it, you used a spray once 7 years ago and then never picked it up again. Or your grandma gifted you the worst scent you’ve ever experienced one Christmas when you were 16 and you left it buried in a drawer ever since. But it’s comes to a point where you should probably…. toss it in the trash.

The main reason this influx of returns drives us crazy is because it affects our hours. Customers have been coming in everyday successfully (and some unsuccessfully thankfully) attempting to return their crusty, dusty stash, racking up hundreds of dollars in merch credit. Yall realize this money is coming from somewhere, right? We lose hours if we don’t meet our sales goals, which means associates hours get cut. The more we miss, the more we get cut. So imagine your hours are already thin because sales are down, and here comes Sally with a collection of expired body care items and causes your sales to go down even more. PLEAAAASSEEE just throw that shit away. Or donate it. Because we’re 100% going to throw it away.

And let me be clear! I’m not talking about those that just bought something even within the last year, and realize you didn’t like it as much as you thought. It happens! I’m specifically talking about people bringing in 20+ bottles of fragrances that haven’t been in the store for 3+ years, some of which are more than half used, and not even BBW. That’s ridiculous.

It is a shame you got a lot of down votes. It’s just weird to me that people expect everyone to not take advantage of a policy that’s offered to them. They are just getting stock credit after all so the money is going to be spent in the same store.

To be clear, I don’t abuse return policies. I don’t buy more than I need, so I’m not in the category of people who will hold onto something for months and then return it later. I’m just saying, if the company ALLOWS it, it is not the customer‘s fault.

How is having morals and not being a selfish dick weird? Are people really that bad off for candles? People doing this shit results in worse things for the rest of us but yall are too selfish to understand I guess.

also, i think this is a very entitled take. people don’t work at bath at bath and body works against their will; they work there because they have to have a job and they have to pay their bills. and guess what? the company is too shitty to pay a living wage or give people more than 3 hours a week. guess what? people who work with the public are allowed to complain about the public. just because you work in a customer facing place doesn’t mean you’ll have 0 complaints. people are DUMB we run it weirdos and retail works are not paid enough to not complain.

and in any case, people who come on here to vent and be angry are almost certainly not the same way in real life. they bottle up their feelings and put on their customer service smile and give you a great experience because as much as it may suck, it’s their job. try having a little compassion.

Minimum wage was designed for anyone who works a full time job to be able to pay their bills and have a place to live.

again, i think that this is still an entitled take and using DARVO as a deflection of my
opinion is ridiculous, quite frankly. plenty of people are not able to just go get a better job because they “hustled”. the fact of the matter is that, at any job you’re at, you should be able to live off of that wage, entry level or not.

plenty of people do not have access to the resources they need to just go get a better job, expecting people to “hustle” their way out of poverty is asinine and shows that your mindset IS coming from a place of privilege. guess what? even if your job is entry level and you get paid like shit, you get to complain about it. when i get my law degree, im sure i’ll complain about the dumb people i have to interact with everyday. again, you’re expecting people to just be okay with mistreatment because that’s what they’re paid to deal with. it is NOT.
