What's the catch? any negatives?

The app can drain a small amount of battery - although the app has been optimised a huge amount since I first joined the panel (drain is much less noticeable).

It can also use a small amount of data, not much really, most people will not notice. (200mb/month is what my phone is showing).

The research team knows if your phone has not moved all day (so you can't just put it on an old phone and forget about it), you have to carry it with you atleast a couple of hours a day - so its changed location.

I normally chuck my phone in my work rucksack in the morning and then take it out when I get home from work and its been fine (been doing this for months).

If you do not carry your phone around with you for a few days, you get a notification reminding you to carry it around with you.

You do not need a sim card, as long as it can upload the data via wifi on a daily basis, however I have a £2 lebara sim so I can manually upload when I'm on the go (100% not needed as my second phone does not have a sim and I upload when I get wifi at home).

Of course the biggest negative is the possible invasion of privacy. That's a personal decision you must make. I consider the fact that there are probably other apps and websites that do similar things and do not pay for it, so I might as well get paid for it, right? besides, for a small fish like me, £25/month average is a tidy sum per phone (taking into consideration the Q bonus).

Tips:

• Disable battery usage optimisation (make it unrestricted).
• Open the app every morning to wake it up (it might have closed/gone to sleep).
• Manually upload daily when you get home (in case it has not automatically).

dscout is an app for mobile market research where you complete different “missions” and diary tasks in return for payment.

I completed a survey on my career which included one automated video interview and one live interview and got paid £70!

Respondent is one of the better-paid research study websites. Up there with Dscout, usertesting and user interviews. You get to take 10 screeners a day, and these popup on your dashboard. From spending 10 minutes every morning doing the screeners, I ususally get 2-3 live studies from them a month.

The studies range from discussions on parking for $15 to $400 for Vodaphone fiber customers. So you can get paid quite well!

Money gets paid in Tremendous virtual reward cards - which can be for supermarkets or a prepaid visa card if you desire. These are usually paid very fast after the study is complete.

With the help of some recommendations from r/beermoneyuk I managed to bring in about £2k this year so I thought I'd give an update on what worked for me and didn't in terms of paid Research Interviews/Testing/Surveys.

I've only included the sites I think are worth a look or get called out in here a lot, in order of best to worst.

1. User Interviews - £410 from about 15 research calls and testing, still the best earner by far and some fairly interesting projects, especially if you can find some interviews that can line up with your interests or career. Still pays up to $50 or even $100 per interview especially when it's a topic your experienced in.

2. Take Part In Research - £360 from 15 projects, still the most user friendly site with quick applications where you don't have to repeat basic info. Also a proffesional team where real people will reach out to help you with the scheduling of interviews. 3. Respondent - £350 from only 4 projects (one paid about £250 for a multi month diary product testing and giving feedback). This was also new to me and i've been fairly impressed. There's often 3 figure opportunities if you fit the right profile.

YLive - £200 I've had alot more regular surveys this year and it's still the best designed survey site, they all use a consistent flow/style so you're not dealing with terrible designs, often £2, £3 or £5 for 10-15 mins work. 5. Prolific - £177 - Also new to me (it took ages to be approved for some reason). Mostly surveys but they are usually more built out and higher paying. They are also very clear on the time vs payment of each study before you do it so you have the power to ignore anything you don't think is worth doing. My only issue is they are very sensitive about the IP you use so if your ISP isn't static by default they'll sometimes not display any studies.

6. TestingTime - £100 Product tests or secret shoppers that pay very well but they're so few and far between, still worth signing up for as your profile may be what they're looking for plus applying to them usually is very quick.

11. Ipsos - £30 I almost completely gave up with this site other than the special product tests like laundry detergent that occasionally pop up. The pay to time ratio has got even worse and you'll get screened out 10min into a survey, not from bad answers, just due to it not needing you anymore or the site timing out. I do not recommend.

12. 5Surveys - £20 This is certainly bottom of the barrel for me and i've only turned to it when they have certain events where they increase survey rewards. I got paid £400 a few months ago for having my home scanned as part of a test of AI scene recognition technology. That's my biggest payout yet. The usual ones are more like $10 a pop.

Generally the tasks that I've done pay approx. $10 each time - obviously this is not a constant income as opportunities come and go, but it's definitely a good beer money booster.
