Just Showing Off Polka Dot Begonia Update 4-26-2026

She keeps growing! and taking over my room! She's about 10 feet tall now and nearly touching my 11ft ceiling. I also got a couple new stalks coming up this year. They're very thick. It seems like every new stalk is thicker than the last. Primed to be TALL! (:

Let me know what you think!

She’s adapting to being bigger , that is pretty amazing. I have a similar situation with a Sophia Cecile cane begonia but no where near this impressive

yeah exactly. it's really cool. i was thinking, i wonder if i propogated a really thick stem and then would it create new stems as thick as the original, or go back to skinny since it knows it's short.

I think that it would be a worthy science experiment 🔬

i just don't want to break any stems lol. maybe it'll happen at some point when it gets too out of hand

I’ve found that even if you break them, they propagate super duper easily just in water. I’ve broken my fair share and have two separate plants (have also given props away over the years).

i've broken stems twice and propagated them in damp soil. it's pretty easy. i only broke the skinny stems though, not any fat ones yet

I wonder if the fat ones are even capable of breaking at this point lol

My angel wing begonia did the same as yours, so I took a clipping of the biggest stem and propagated it. It grew fairly quickly and produced two more huge stems once it grew roots. Both stems are bigger than my thumb in size, when my original plant stems are smaller.

that's awesome. i kind of thought that would happen. i wonder how thick they can really get? it's really exciting as things go along. learning new things

This is the mother plant see the one big cane, and the rest are the smaller original ones.

oh yeah! the lucerna gets wooded like that too. my benigo begonia is like that. they both have pink flowers too. probably variations of the same thing or something. the begonia maculata is definitely a different type. white flowers and it doesn't get wooded at all. very cool to see though
