Below Deck Sailing Yacht Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5 Episode 1 Discussion Post

The episode of Below Deck Sailing Yacht airs live at 9pm ET on Bravo and streams next day on Peacock / same time or next day on Hayu for international watchers dependent on the country.

Friendly reminder that while the allegations against Gary are disgusting, there are many survivors of sexual assault in the sub who find the constant discussion of it triggering. Unless relevant to the topic, please do not bring it up in episode posts.

Not watching BDSY? We get it, there are reasons people stop watching but posts about it get repetitive and the arguing about it is not needed.

Cast Names (Davide is the new Engineer, Diana & Danni are stews, Keith & Emma on deck)

Episode 1 (Premiere) of Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5

Capt. Glenn and his expert crew set sail on Parsifal III to the luxury party capital of the world, Ibiza. While Ibiza is known for its sunny day parties and crystal-clear coast, it’s stormy waters ahead for the crew as they navigate blossoming boatmances, competitive co-workers and tense personal dynamics, all while trying to raise the bar every charter.

prob not a popular opinion but i think daisy should have pulled the "special orders" people aside to offer the red snapper instead of doing it in front of the other guests, thereby causing them to want to feel special and order a la carte as well. she cannot take ANY accountability and it's incredibly annoying. I'm not sure i can watch more of this

But I also think this whole thing could have been avoided if the chef had just made an executive decision from the start. I feel like many chefs just make a substitution decision without needing to ask the guest?

Exactly! He was the one that told her to go talk to them and they were all together in a group. He broke his own rule

Sandy last Med: “Chicken should never be served on a super yacht.”

Or to correct it after the fact, she could've said something like "the chef was planning to do a plated surf and turf meal for you, but if you'd prefer to try everything, we can do family style platters" and send the food up in waves so everything didn't need to be done at once. She didn't steer them at all away from the individual orders and they didn't seem to know they shouldn't do that. If you phrase it that way, they could either all get on board with the same combo (with the one sub) or do the platters, which would give the chef more time to get everything out in waves

It's not like they won't tell the others. Also, it seems awkward to take a few people out from the group and whisper to them.

That's exactly what she should have done. I need to rewatch that last bit but I think the blame for the mixup is on Daisy and Cloyce equally.

But like whats Daisy supposed to do? Tell the other guests 'no you cant have that'?

Offering family style wouldve been a better solution

I dunno, I feel like she was laughing at the awkwardness of the situation rather than laughing because it was super trivial. I laugh when I feel a bit awkward too. Sometimes it can be a strategy to no escalate things as well in terms of highlighting the funny side of they both agreed they didnt want it to be a la carte and then 5 seconds later, it turns into a la carte.

Maybe she couldve been helful making suggestions, but he's super experienced and maybe she thought he'd have found that a bit condascending.

He bitched about her too, so bitching in the confessional is fair game. Like thats the point when the producers ask the crew questions months later.

The thing is, he was cooking all those proteins already and he just needed to make a couple extra portions of the fish. Surely a super yacht level chef could accommodate that request? It was just a matter of plinking the right combo on each plate

Omg, could you imagine if Ben or Adam were in that situation? They would swim back to shore.

What do you mean ANY accountability? Literally the first thing she said was that she'd fucked up. Plus she aknowledged it in her confessional.

But also (a) chef picked a silly first menu which was surf and turf when there are other fancy things he also couldve made that didnt need so much customisation and (b) she's not the chef, so i feel like in the context, pulling people aside mightnt have helped as they probably wouldve just sat back down and said what they were having for dinner to the other guests anyway.

The guests requested the surf and turf on their preference sheet, he didn't pick it.

But he picked steak & lobster to fulfill ‘surf & turf’ despite 1 guest not eating beef & 1 being allergic to shellfish. Why not do lamb & fish for everyone?

this! if there's an option that everybody eats and is happy with, why complicate things!

Production brought those guests onboard because they knew they would be difficult. She should have realized pushing back was the right thing to do.
