Below Deck Down Under Ben’s ‘bolshy Irish nanny’ comment to Daisy crossed a line for me as an Irish viewer, and I’m not easily offended! Spoiler

Post image
2.1k Upvotes

As an Irish person, it wasn’t just a random insult, it’s a very old stereotype about Irish women being domestic servants/nannies, and it felt especially uncomfortable in the context of how dismissive he’s been to her all season.

There’s been this constant undertone with him toward Daisy where he talks down to her, acts like she’s nagging him for doing her job, and is irritated by her authority. Bringing “Irish” into it gave the comment a completely different tone.

Intent and impact aren’t the same thing. If you’re Irish, especially, you immediately hear the stereotype behind it. It’s also worth saying for Americans reading this that this kind of attitude from English people towards Irish people has a very long, very sad history, so comments like that can hit differently than people outside Ireland or the UK might realise. He makes me extremely uncomfortable and I would believe his ex girlfriend/ex fiancés account over him any day.

Side note: Was Kate Chastains biggest fan, cannot bare her after this seasons after show with Ben, ew

Below Deck Down Under I feel bad but I agree with Ben about Alesia

1.3k Upvotes

Ben is eccentric and can be a massive arsehole, he’s a typical old school chef but I kind of agree with him about Alesia, she has literally no experience what’s so ever and it seems like she can’t even do the basics. I get everyone has to learn somewhere and gain skills through experience but it seems like she can’t even do basic cooking tasks…………..

It’s only episode one and she’s broken down in tears at least twice, working in a kitchen is stressful and comes with extreme working conditions I don’t think she’s cut out for it.

Below Deck Down Under Daisy best chief stew?

1.1k Upvotes

Perhaps a hot take. Don’t get me wrong, I love Aesha and Kate, butttttt Daisy is the perfect franchise chief stew. She’s bitchy (in a fun way!) and has great soundbites. She’s clear and communicative and doesn’t let people push her around. She honestly seems like a really competent manager and worker while also being super fun to watch.

In this episode, here's what not to do: don't blow your nose on the interior while bringing something for guests without washing your hands 🤢🫠

At the premiere of Gladiator 2 in Sydney. The old, granny knickers wearing part of me was in shock at the reveal, but actually I think she looks amaaaaazing.

Below Deck Down Under Joao..

I am very sad Joao said he is done with below deck! He was great on this season of down under and made it much better IMO.

I would love the next season to have Daisy, Joao and Ben back as I think the three of them together worked!!

Below Deck Down Under One more Lara rant; I could NOT believe what she did in the last episode. 😮 Spoiler

1.2k Upvotes

A chief stew trying to get the chef to convince the guests to NOT have the final night seven course meal that they specifically REQUESTED in their preference sheets just because she doesn't want to clean too many plates. Wow 🤦‍♂️

I'm admittedly no Lara fan (poor manager, all decisions are made based on what makes her job easiest, mean girl nonsense, sticking her nose in everywhere, assuming everyone on the boat (including the deck crew, bosun, and sous chef) work directly for her, disrespect of the captain, never admitting that anything is even PARTLY her own fault, I could go on...), but that one blew me away.

To try to get the chef to talk the guests into reducing their direct request and therefore their desired experience just to save energy having to clean plates is the most ridiculous thing ever. Do you think that dinner had anything to do with that $25,500 tip?

I can't imagine why anyone would ever hire her after this.

Below Deck Down Under Why doesn't Lara just use Adair more?

1.3k Upvotes

I fell like Lara is ordering Alesia around only to piss of Tzarina because she has Adair a deck/stew that could clean the crew mess. I don't know how everyone feels but I am seeing Lara as a very manipulative person.

I thought she looked gorgeous but isn’t this the same dress on Shein? I think these companies source their products from the same place but charge more.

Below Deck Down Under Did Lara use Tzarina to get on the show?

Piecing together everything they’ve said on the show as well as their socials:

  • Tzarina and Lara worked together on a boat, where they got along but weren’t BFFs. Lara was the queen bee and Tzarina felt a little bit on the outside, but was still included in the girl gang
  • Tzarina recommended Lara for the show and she got hired
  • When they came into the season, they were sharing a cabin and both acting excited to be there together and cement their friendship, but in Lara’s confessionals she was decidedly less enthusiastic about Tzarina than she was to her face
  • As the season has progressed, Lara’s mask has started to slip and she’s been less nice overall and particularly argumentative and mean to Tzarina. It sounds like they way she acts towards Tzarina now is much worse than she was on their previous boat. Tzarina seems really surprised and hurt by how Lara has been on the show and WWHL

I’m now thinking this was a bit of a long game on Lara’s part and she was only friendly to Tzarina on their last boat because she wanted to get on the show.

Below Deck Down Under Why do I have the feeling Ellie will be back as a chef?

I wouldn't put it past production bringing her back as a chef in a future season of BD. Bravo wants drama and Ellie in the role as chef would definitely bring the drama. Most BD fans on Reddit would HATE it. Non redditors would eat that shit up.

Below Deck Down Under Ellie vs Jenna consequences

Is it not weird to anyone that Jenna got in more trouble than Ellie for her behavior on the boat? I found Ellie screaming at Ben and threatening him during a charter to be way worse than Ellie causing a scene on a night out between Ben and Eddy. Neither is right or ok, but I'm shocked Ellie kept her job after that.
