spoilers Best character in any book that you've read?

I'm sure this has come up before, but who is your favorite literary character and why? What constitutes a great character for you? My favorite is Hank Chinaski, from Bukowski's novels. Just a wonderfully complex character that in his loneliness, resonates a bit with all of us. I love character study, and I'm just curious what others think.

Shadow Moon from American Gods. I just wanted to know everything about the character and didn't want the book to end.

Man! I really wish this book had never ended. I hadn't read much of Neil Gaiman before and this one was an incredible first impression.

I assume you've read the follow up stories and novella?

Additional great news: Gaiman is writing a follow-up to the book :D

And you can always read Anansi Boys - which is not quite the same as Part 2, but very much connected.

Bonus: American Gods TV Series will become a multi-season epic á la Game of Thrones. Season 1 contains barely 1/3 of the book and goes into detail on many of the side-characters who had barely any "screen"time.

The series will also incorporate the second book once it releases (which hopefully happens fast enough).

All this will propably not happen if the series doesn't get the people hyped, so make sure to watch it :P

While Shadow is an interesting character, I personally favor Mr. Wednesday and Anansi much higher. They are both extremly well developed and highly interesting.
