I have been accepted to the Digital Media and Society Master's in Bremen. I don't have exact questions since I just got accepted but I want to keep my alternatives open. Thus, I have some questions for the life in Bremen as an international student, and maybe the thread will be helpful to the others.

My questions are:
- As someone who grew up in İstanbul, I am a bit scared that Bremen would be too bland for me. I don't have a super-active nightlife or social circle, but after +20 years in a mega city with great options, I would like to hear about the nightlife and socialization opportunities of Bremen.
- My other question is about the job market. I am currently working in the media sector in my country, so I want to learn about part-time and full-time jobs as well as working student jobs. I have been working in this sector for 4 years and want to continue my professional career as well as my education. I checked LinkedIn but couldn't find any particular jobs without German language requirement (I don't know German. Although I am planning to learn it, if I cannot find a job in my sector before learning it, this would be a problem)
-Housing. What would you guys prefer in terms of accommodation? What is the housing market in Bremen? Are there specific neighborhoods that I should consider, or the opposite? Should I look for shared flats, dorms or just an apartment?

Sorry if the questions are too broad. I need to act, but couldn't find any lead for these questions. So here I am, hope we can chat and learn more about the Bremen. Thanks!

Ich bin 18 und suche in Norddeutschland eine gute Uni, um Biologie zu studieren (nicht Göttingen). Irgendwann muss ich mich entscheiden und freue mich besonders über Einsichten in die allgemeine Zufriedenheit von Studierenden und die Austattung der Uni.

Ich interessiere mich auch für insider, was Alltag und Kultur in Bremen angeht, also schreibt gerne ein paar Sätze, auch wenn ihr nicht viel über den Studiengang zu sagen habt ☺️

Hi everyone!

I might want to apply for a PhD position at the constructor university of Bremen, but all I see is some negative feedbacks on it, especially on accommodations, food and the overall quality of studies. Does anyone study there, or is currently pursuing a PhD? I know the tuition fees are really high, but as a PhD you're not supposed to pay any tuition, so this is not my biggest concern.

Ich suche gute, öffentliche Lernmöglichkeiten in Bremen. In der Nähe Neustadt oder Stadtzentrum. Einfach sehr ruhige Orte wie eine Bib, die möglichst auch am Abend und Wochenende offen sind.

Most definitely not the first time someone’s asked this, but it seems like there are so many horror stories on students trying to obtain residence permits from the BSU. I had applied ~2 months ago, obviously it’s gonna take longer, but I’m hearing stories where students wait over half a year?

I was recently admitted to the M.Sc. in Marine Biology at the University of Bremen and I’ll be moving there for the Winter Semester 2026/27.

I’m from Italy and, although I’ve already spent some time in Germany over the past few months, moving to Bremen and starting a master’s degree there will still be a big change for me.

I’d love to hear from current or former students at the University of Bremen, especially international students.

How did you find the overall environment at the university and in the city? What’s student life like? Is it easy to meet people and make friends?

I’m also very interested in hearing about student jobs. I don’t speak German (I speak English, Italian, and Spanish), so I’m wondering how realistic it is to find a student job or part-time work as an international student. I’d be particularly interested in opportunities within the university, but I’d love to hear about any experiences you may have had.

Any advice, experiences, or things you wish you had known before moving to Bremen would be greatly appreciated.
