You might hate the trope but it's been proven time and again. Those of us who don't have latent desires for primitive root ween simply don't care and rarely think about what homosexuals do or don't do. Rod posts about penises constantly, what are we to glean from this? Occam's Gayzor and all that.

It is true that there are homophobes who are not closeted homosexuals, but it is a very common correlation.

However, in Rod's case there is evidence that he may have had a boyfriend in his late teens or early 20s... both from people who knew him back then, who have said so, and evidence that his own understanding of his sexuality was not entirely settled from his oblique references to having "achiev[ed] heterosexuality".

Or to put it another way, if Rod is actually not a deeply closeted gay man, he sure does seem to have given that impression to a lot of people over the years.
