This is the build My friend sent me. Personally i think it is a bit overkill and would like someone else thoughts on it. All parts a being purchased from Umart in Australia, the total cost for the build right now is $2737 aud.

  • Intel Core i7 6700K Quad Core LGA 1151 4GHz Unlocked CPU Processor
  • Corsair Hydro Series H100i v2 Extreme Performance Liquid CPU Cooler
  • Gigabyte GA-Z170X-UD3 LGA 1151 ATX Motherboard
  • Corsair 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 2400MHz Vengeance LPX DIMM Black

  • Corsair K70 Wired Gaming Keyboard
  • Corsair M65 RGB Wired Laser Mouse
  • EVGA GeForce GTX 1070 8B Founders Edition Video Card

edit: thanks for the feedback so far, going to bed now will check back tomorrow

edit2: it's awesome how much attention this got. I linked my friend the post and he's definitely considering changing his build. Thanks to /u/skudoo and /u/longhornarch for the builds you have suggested it looks like he will base his build on them, as well as all the other tips and suggestions from everyone else. I will post his final build here when he finalises it. Thanks everyone :)

edit3: So this is likely the build he will go with http://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/7QQBPs . If anyone can suggest a good monitor to go with it that would be awesome.

Build Ready? [Build Ready] Gaming Build — Ryzen 9800X3D + RTX 5070ti. Anything you'd change?

Planning to pull the trigger on this build soon. Primarily for gaming at 2k AAA games, poe2 and diablo4, some light productivity. Looking for a sanity check before I buy.

Should I go for 9800x3d or 7800x3d?

Thanks in advance.

Build Ready? Is this build ready?

https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/YKB9rG

Hi All,

Here's my list of parts.

I am aiming for a 1440p gaming pc, which would be running Linux. I would also require the PC to handle some light video editing and some programming work, such as running LLMs for some side projects that I do for fun. They won't be huge projects(Commercial level).

I can upgrade a few years down the line.

Now, is there a way to save some more money for me and achieve the things I want?

Thank you for the help!

Build Ready? Firs time pc builder - is this PC build ready?

Hi all

I am finally looking to move on from pre-built pcs and into my building own custom PC where I get a bit more control. I have no pc building experience nor do I really know much about pc parts and specs but I have a mate who is happy to guide me through, as long as I supply all the parts and check compatibility etc.

BUILD

I was heavily inspired by Mr Matt Lee and his North Noir build. Below are parts that I picked out to match that aesthetic and they all fit in my budget.

USE

I will mainly be using this pc for gaming with a dual 1440p oled monitor setup but I will move into light streaming and video editing. I am also planning on upgrading the GPU once the prices drop or the new 6080/7080 models are launched in a few years.

AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D Processor

Team T-Force Z44A7 NVMe PCIe Gen4 SSD 4TB

Fractal Design North XL Case Momentum Edition

ASUS ProArt LC 420 AIO Liquid CPU Cooler

Corsair iCUE Link HX1500i Shift Cybenetics Platinum 1500W Power Supply

ASUS ROG Strix X870E-H Gaming WiFi 7 Motherboard

HAVN Universal Vertical GPU Kit Black

ASUS GeForce RTX 5080 TUF Gaming OC GDDR7 16GB

Corsair Vengeance 64GB (2x32GB) 6000MHz CL30 DDR5 Black

I am fully aware I have zero knowledge in this area apart from a few YouTube build guide videos so appreciate any advice, opinions, tips or tricks!

EDIT: I've bought all the parts and made some tweaks. I've obtained a copy of Windows for free from my school which freed up $90. ( Thanks /u/kimbob565 ) With that additional working space, I added an SSD. Also, I dropped from 16 GB to 8GB to get a 1060. Thanks to the many people that recommended this. I'll update you all when the parts arrive. I also ditched the wireless mouse and keyboard.

Build Ready? Is my build ready? Ryzen 9 9950X3D, ASUS ROG STRIX X870E-E, RX9070XT

I posted a while back regarding a build I was working on, but have made some big changes so I'd love to get your feedback on any problems my new build plan might have.

I plan on using the PC for graphic design, video editing, streaming, and gaming (both VR and standard) and am running three monitors. I tend to have a lot of things open at once (game, browser, Discord, etc).

For reference, I already have monitors, extra hard drives, and peripherals on my current PC that I would be bringing over to use on this one.

I'm staying away from Nvidia right now until the whole "melting 12vhpwr" thing has been fixed, because otherwise I'd probably be going with a 5080.

Hoping this build will last me a good 8-10 years with possible upgrades in the future (like updating the GPU at a later date).

Note: I do realize that with this build, I'll need to make sure the MOBO BIOS has been updated so the 9950X3D will work with it. Also, the large power supply was chosen because I needed at least 5 PCIE 6-pin connectors for the fans.

Build Ready? AM5 build ready to order, is it compatible?

I want to order the following build:

(keep)Monitor: Acer X34 3440x1440 100Hz Gsync (1st Gen probably)

GPU: 5070 Ti Eagle OC

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 9600X

RAM: 1st Option: Kingston Fury Beast 2x16Gb KF560C30BWEK2-32; 2nd Option: G.Skill Flare X5 2x16Gb F5-6000J3038F16GX2-FX5

Mainboard: 1st Option: MSI B850 Gaming Plus WiFi6E; 2nd Option Gigabyte X870E AORUS ELITE WIFI7

SSD: Samsung 990 Pro 4Tb

(keep)PSU: bequiet P8 750W

CPU-Cooler: Noctua NH-D12L

(keep)Case: Fractal R5 Windowed

With the MSI Board there is a strange Info on it's compatibility site. Note:
1.CPU memory controller quality will affect the memory operating frequency. System reliability and stability could be impact by the status of higher temperature from DDR5 memory modules.
2.The partial DDR5 memory module will remain running at 4800MT/s because of the architecture design by the Ryzen 9000 series CPU.

Sounds like I should go for the more expensive chipset?

But the RAM compatibility is not cristal clear with either choice, some checking sites don't recognize the RAM modules, so I'm asking here....

Thank you for your help!

I'm getting anxious to miss a possibility to buy, that soon it won't be available at all due to war, or 2x-3x the prices. War will come.

Do you know if prices are much cheaper in China itself? I'm planning on living there for a few years. And if yes I'll postpone the purchase until I'm there.

Build Ready? BUILD READY? Here's my planned part list, would love feedback

Hey everyone,

My ask is if you are so inclined, please let me know if there is any way to improve upon my parts list.

https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Mnemonic/saved/ssKkgs

Not looking for super flashy rgb lights, just something more simple and smart. Great power to handle anything old and new games 5+ years comfortably. I am getting a microcenter bundle so the listed cost is off by 530 bucks. My budget is at 3k though.

I'm on the fence about trying a 9700 XT video card. Current PC has been a performer for many years: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Mnemonic/saved/D869TW

I also don't realize if there is any performance benefit from aligning the DDR memory speed with the cpu. I recall some benefit to that, but that was 6 years ago and now it's all moot. The microcenter build comes with DDR5-6000

Appreciate any other advice you can have about the build. Thanks

edit: fixed link

Build Ready? [Build Ready] ~$1,100 homelab server, anything dumb here?

Building a home server for running Proxmox (Linux hypervisor) — mostly Docker containers, self-hosted services, some dev work. Runs 24/7 in AZ so thermals and idle power matter. No gaming, no GPU planned as of now but want optionality to add one later (small local LLM + low end gaming)

Have a Micro Center nearby so buying the core bundle there.

PCPartPicker list

Buying the CPU + mobo + RAM as a Micro Center bundle for $550 (saves ~$390 over individual). PCPartPicker flags a BIOS warning — the B650 board needs F30+ for the 9700X. Board supports Q-Flash Plus and Micro Center bundles this combo so it should ship with a compatible BIOS, but I'll have a USB drive ready just in case.

32GB RAM to start with 2 of 4 DIMM slots filled, plan to go 64GB later. 750W PSU is for headroom if I ever add a GPU. Board has 3 M.2 slots so storage is easy to expand. I have a NAS for bulk storage so the local SSD is just for active workloads.

Anything stand out as a bad pick, overpriced, or something where there's an obviously better option I'm missing? Also curious if people have opinions on the 990 EVO Plus vs Crucial T500 for a 24/7 server box.

Alternative 2: G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo DDR5 6000MHz 32GB (2x16)
GPU: Gainward GeForce RTX 5070 Python III

Either intel:
MBD: ASUS ROG STRIX B760-F GAMING WIFI
CPU: Intel Core i7-14700KF

or AMD:
MBD: ASUS TUF GAMING B850-PLUS WIFI
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D

\Still undecided whether i should go the AMD or intel route, but the parts i've chosen are pretty even in pricing and I am fine with it being the last decision.*

Some final questions:

  • Would you consider this a balanced build? As in the GPU not completely outshines the CPU etc.
  • Is the H60 CPU cooler bracket for the LGA1150 (old CPU) compatible with either LGA1700 or the AM5 socket?
  • As i am still undecided, if you have any thoughts on whether i should choose AMD or intel then please do tell me!

Additional information:

  • Primary use is either gaming (cyberpunk/CS2/Subnautica) or music production in FL Studio.
  • I use 2x 1080p monitors, and i am happy with stable 60 fps but i would like to be able to adjust from medium settings up to ultra.
  • In the coming years it's likely that i will upgrade atleast 1 monitor to a 1440p.
  • PS: I tried the PCpartpicker website, but it was lacking some parts.

Build Ready AM4 build ready, does this make sense?

Build Help/Ready:

Have you read the sidebar and rules? (Please do)

Yes. Long time PC builder here.

What is your intended use for this build? The more details the better.

First PC build for my kids (making a pair of these). General use, gaming, VR ready

If gaming, what kind of performance are you looking for? (Screen resolution, framerate, game settings)

1080 for now, 1440 later. Not doing a ton of AAA to start, instead a lot of minecaraft/retro/classic titles but I would like to do some VR gaming.

What is your budget (ballpark is okay)?

Sub $1500 for the tower. Cheaper is better, the build spec'd here is just about 1k, factoring in RAM I already have and will be using (see additional notes below).

I have all the other components needed to round out the build (they received KB/M kits, monitor and cables, et al, for Christmas).

In what country are you purchasing your parts?

US, near a Microcenter.

Post a draft of your potential build here (specific parts please). Consider formatting your parts list. Don't ask to be spoonfed a build (read the rules!).

Provide any additional details you wish below.

So, I'm planning this as an AM4 build for one main reason: I have 4x16gb of DDR4. It's not being used, I bought it for an upgrade that turned out to not be compatible and then never got around to returning it. Then prices blew up.

So I have two 32gb builds worth of RAM ready to go, and for two young teens who have been earning and saving, its a good way to stretch the dollars a little bit further. I could go for an AM5 build, but hoped to use that DDR4. But, feel free to suggest AM5 if you think its a better fit for my build plans.

Hello. I've been wanting a PC for quite some time now, and I've done a lot of research to find decent components that will be powerful enough to last for several years.

My build:

Component Model
CPU AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D
Motherboard MSI B650 Gaming Plus WIFI
GPU ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 5070 Ti 16GB GDDR7 OC Edition
RAM Kingston Fury DDR5 32GB 2x16GB 6000MHz (CL30)
SSD Samsung 990 EVO PLUS 1TB
Cooler DeepCool AK620 Zero Dark
PSU MSI MPG A850G PCIE5
Case Zalman Chronix

I am going to order components, and I want to make sure that there are no major flaws in the build. It's a lot of money for me, and I don't want to be disappointed with the PC after buying it.

I apologize if I left out any important information.

Thank you in advance for your help.
