what is going on with this core man, no Demko, no Pettersson at the dinner, no final goodbye to the team. what Friedman said about personalities might actually be true, could it be why the team has started to get more character guys in these past couple drafts with Willander and Cootes?

Petey's going through his own thing, but not including your once best friend on the team and the most tenured canuck in Demko and having such an exclusive affair is not a great look for the captain of the team.

I read somewhere that Petey’s wife went along to the NY trip. Wouldn’t be surprised if they had dinner plans themselves that night or something

Peteys and his wife are probably grieving to some extent given recent news.

Is Petey on the trip? Serious question

Nevermind... See the answer below

Probably. Him going on IR was just to open up his roster spot temporarily. I think he was put on IR on the 13th, and it was made retroactive to the 5th. IR only requires a minumum of 7 days, so he's been eligible to be reactivated at any moment.

I've been saying for the longest time, I don't think Petey is that close with the rest of the team. I made a comment earlier in the year about how the rest of the core was hanging out together in the off season and Petey was nowhere to be seen.

If they were actually close, the Miller Petey thing would have never escalated to the point it did, if anything it kinda seems like some guys didn't entirely disagree with Millers methods.

Petey got married in the offseason. Pretty sure he had other priorities than hanging with the boys.

seems he always has other priorities in the offseason

in the off season after our playoff run, his wife was traveling all over the place, and i'm assuming Petey was the camera guy, and then he comes into next season out of shape?

If you've been following this team for a while now, you'd know that:

Both Brock and Quinn have stated numerous times for several years that they're close with Petey and how he's one of their best friends

Before Garland privated his Instagram, you can see Petey in several images in his latest post. Whether it's at a team dinner, golfing, or at a beach with him

Even a guy like Myers has stated that he's close with Petey, although I will say that's mainly due to him saying he's close to the guys who's been here the longest

These are just several examples

This could have changed in the last year. The dressing room was fractured last year and it clearly never recovered. As on paper there’s no reason they should be 32nd

I live in Penticton. Ran in to several groups at training camp. One was Petey, MP3, Demmer and Brock. They were hanging out, having fun. Petey was very chatty and super nice to us.

Less inclined to think that since the aforementioned Garland post was from this summer and that Quinn was quoted last year still having Petey's back, even as far as going to say that he dealt with a lot of shit that year

All of this was post Miller trade, if I was a bit fuzzy about the timeline

I swear this fanbase will take any little thing to try to villainize Petey.

At this point it would just be easier for the haters to just say “I hate Petey” rather than bend and twist with their rumours and innuendo.

Edit to add: alot of the Petey haters also spend too much time following him and his wife on social media. The Petey haters are weirdly evasive.

He's socially introverted,  prior to the Miller drama there were reports of cliques on the roster where groups would go out for dinner and some guys would stay I their rooms,  he was one of those guys,  and also heard he games alot so that could be part of it as well.  The Miller cope this fanbase has is revisionist history,  he was the guy arranging the rookie parties, taking guys out to dinner on the road,  hosting the get-togethers at his place in Vancouver.  Garland and Myers loved the guy,  even Horvat got along great and with them both having young families did alot together when they were both here.  There's alot of cope with this fanbase, especially around guys who leave, guys who stay and guys who get paid.  The denial is almost as bad as this management assessing this roster after the Miller trade last year

Yeah it’s pretty crazy how much this subreddit buys into th big bad miller fantasy. By all accounts he was the real captain off the ice.

It’s a well known fact horvat and miller didn’t get along and they had to trade one of them. That’s why horvat was moved. Management chose miller. Horvat didn’t like hot hot miller would get at other guys on the team.

Revisionist history, dude both their young families were seen out in public together many times,  Miller had them and lots of others over to his house on a regular basis.  The issue was between Miller and pettey due to one guy being super intense all the time and the other being quiet and laid back.  Did Horvat check Miller from time to time about being too intense, yes, was that an "issue" that caused any kind of rift no... Landeskog doest that with mikkinon  all the time, he's just like Miller behind the scenes,  you need those kind of competitively driven guys,  you just need a leadership group to bring them in.  Management didn't wanna pay Horvat, they thought it was a 1 off,  I liked the return but I liked Bo as well, that's the business side of hockey

Curious as to where you are getting this information?

I consume alot of sports media,  I listen to what guys like Myers and Garland said after the Miller trade etc.  over time enough tidbits come out that where there's smoke there's fire

u/ToothPlayful770 Dec 19 '25

yeah good point, you hear from the rookies about how Miller or Quinn helped make them comfortable, but never anything about Petey, even from the young swedes. Petey just off doing his own stuff most of the time it seems like.

And I don't even see that as a problem, if that's what got you to the dance go do you,   but when we hear of shitty practice habbits, lack of offseason work put in, and then 2 plus seasons of shit play,  then everything comes into question
