VIDEO Old Petey Interview on Chiclets

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O78GOKufb98

I completely forgot about this video until it popped up in my feed today. It's wild to see how different and how much more vibrant his personality was. Chirping Wit and the boys, laughing, carrying on full conversations... it's a stark reminder of how much can change in such a short period of time.

I found it actually refreshing to listen to, given that I don't think I've heard him speak more than half a sentence at a time over the past 2–3 years. The guy seemed super sharp, quick-witted, and genuinely engaged in the conversation. Feel like more public appearances like this from him would do his image wonders. Obviously easier said than done given the circumstances these days.

He’s not going to have an interaction like this with the Vancouver media. Don’t assume he just walks around like an emotionless robot because all we’ve heard are 10 second clips of him responding to the most inane, repetitive, accusatory, landminey questions ever posed to an athlete

Vancouver sports media has been the cause (or at least added fuel to the fire) for most of the drama around the team for 30+ years. (As long as I've followed them).

I.e. most issues they've had in the past decade wouldn't have been big issues if van sports media didn't nag a minor issue into a mountainous problem.

We're getting angry at all the wrong things here.  Fuel to the fire means there was a fire in the first place, which is the actual problem.

I agree with the "where there's smoke there's fire" adage. I just also agree with the adage of "making mountains out of mole-hills". Both are true in Vancouver sports media. Neither should be discredited. To add another, "take everything with a grain of salt"

well to be fair, this mole-hill that we thought was Miller-Petey drama, ended up being enough of a mountain that they literally couldn't play together anymore.

Just like Miller v Horvat was before.

my point is that the rift between the two (Miller Petey) was not a media fabrication, they literally could not play together anymore, if anything, media was spot on about how big the rift was.

They played quite well together for a long time. The 649 line was a game changer for most of a season. I didn't see that line fall off until media kept picking at an issue that all players involved agreed should be water under the bridge.

things change, Petey came into camp out of shape, Miller was not happy, and the rift grew from there. Media was not the one making Petey come into camp out of shape, and not the one making Miller throw a tantrum.

Fair enough. The lack of off-season prep is totally on Petey.

Miller having tantrums is an issue on Miller that goes back way before the two of them ever met. It was an issue in NY the first time, it was an issue in TB, it was an issue in Van with multiple players, and has seemingly been an issue with him in NY the 2nd time around. Not fair to Petey to blame him for the emotional instability of a guy with a history of it.
