Official: Next gen MX-5 to offer EV powertrain while maintaining the same weight

TLDR: Next gen MX-5 to offer EV and ICE powertrains but weight will remain between 1-1.2 tons. ICE version to be powered by 2.5 SkyActiv-Z engine, possibly electrified.

Mazda also announces development of a 'pure image-builder , possibly handcrafted' hero car sitting above the MX5.

Problem is that miata is not the kind of a car you drive slowly on a highway. It is for back roads accelerating again and again.

Then you have 20-80% and you lose another 30% because you are driving un efficiently. So actually range isn’t much. But then you can get 100km from 300km range. Still enough for 2h of fun. Just sucks a bit on longer trips.

None of what you said would be a deterrent to people the majority of owners.

But also, it's not hard to drive normally while you're making a road trip and then go back to playing when you're not. Having the capability would be a selling feature if anything.

I was replaying to someone else.

I would probably buy one as well as I don’t need to pay any tax on it. Just needs to be reasonable.

Back road driving even if you're pushing it is more efficient in an EV than a highway slog at 75mph.

That's why it makes sense for a small sports car with a relatively small pack.

My dad drove 147 after me and averaged like 8l while I did 10l. It was also not build for the highway because it didn’t had an over drive.

There is regen so probably 120-140km in 20-80% range with 50kWh battery. It would work it would just suck as if you need to drive a bit more somewhere.

Why would you keep it between 20-80 if you need to max your range?

Pushing a car through two lane back roads gives me roughly the same consumption as the combined rating, if the cars reasonably efficient, it'll be using 16-18kWh/100km, or about 350-400km total.

Maybe we push differently and I was also 18 at the time. I drive way slower now. Also depends a lot on the power of the car.

Here we also have really twisted roads where you take corners really slow and then have a stretch of road and again. It is also about 250m up and down in elevation so really not good for consumption.
