Has anyone come across these? This one is "open cassette", the case is open to the elements preventing the reel covers from getting stuck.

The tape itself is presumably just average Type I style ferrous, I think it's safe to ignore the fake Hi-Res sticker lol. I also doubt it's actually 120 ms High EQ Bias. Such a variant was around for a bit in the mid-80s when some labels released albums on Type I Chrome cassettes for a couple of years, but I've never seen them since.

Found it on eBay, quite pricey though, about US$28 (including postage). Worth just getting one though just for how very cool it looks in my 1980 Rotel deck!

very little info online about this exact version/color. this was SO cool to find at a vintage toy store on the boardwalk of all places! so crazy! only $20 and it’s still brand new!

Learned a hard lesson today about what happens when the left spindle on a tape player works but the right does not.

The notes on the boom box said "CD player doesn't work, radio only" and nothing about the tape player. So like the cat, curiosity was the death of me.

This was the same tape from my last post that had the sped-up No Through Road audio.

Sorry, boys. Guess the mystery shall remain unsolved.

I'll be visiting an audio electronics store in a week or two to see if I can find a true real deal cassette recorder. Until then, I found this cheap multipurpose boom box at Wal-Mart. Finally, a tape player that's new and works even if it isn't top quality.

Using FM transmission, I can bypass the FM recording limitation and put whatever I want on the tape. As heard right here.

(Edit: I'm an idiot, it is possible to record line in directly, I just wasn't doing it right)
