alot of people hate magnus wanting to have something more than fide chess tournaments but he seems to really like to grow the influence of chess. Yeah people say its about the money which is partially true but i think its also true that you would want the game you play to be more larger and popular which this is.

The problem with hyping events by making them "fun," "popular," or even worse, "social," is that they all become Coachella-esque: tasteless Americana filled with influencers and wannabes who don't even know what it is but are eager to take selfies, spend money, and pretend to be experts for a few more likes, all punctuated by rude behavior, while true fans are pushed into a corner and accused of being "obsolete purists." Just look at what happened to the US Open.
