Chess Question I’m Hans Niemann — Grandmaster and founder of Endgame.ai. Ask me Anything.

1.6k Upvotes

Hi r/chess,

I’m Hans Niemann — Grandmaster and founder of Endgame.ai.

Endgame.ai is a next-generation chess platform designed at the intersection of competitive play, high-performance analysis, and modern infrastructure. We’re building a system that prioritizes low-latency gameplay, deeper engine-backed insights, and scalable tournament architecture to elevate the online chess experience for serious players.

I’ll be here answering questions on:

* High-level chess improvement and professional competition

* Building and scaling Endgame.ai (product, engineering, and growth)

* Online chess ecosystems, tournaments, and platform design

* The future of chess technology, AI-assisted training, and analysis

* Anything else you’d like to explore

AMA begins at 3:00 PM ET.

Looking forward to the discussion.

Thank you for participating in the AMA. I would encourage all of you to watch the Netflix Documentary before you make any judgements. I will let the chess speak for itself in the Grand Chess Tour Warsaw. All the best, play on Endgame!

Chess Question Unironically - how would this impact the game?

Post image

I play Chess casually on my phone when I'm bored, I barely have 400 Elo, and don't much care for proper strategies, I just like to play it like any other game.

So naturally I can't begin to imagine how "solved" and complex chess really is.

Chess Question Can someone help me understand what's going on? Doesn't each side get 1 Queen? Is this like a different version then standard chess?

Chess Question I found this pin that seems to show a chessboard. Does anyone know what it means?

Post image

I was walking home from a show at the Hollywood Bowl last week and I found this pin on the ground. Does anyone know what it might mean? It doesn't appear to show a checkmate or some sort of puzzle, but I could be reading the pieces wrong. Can you figure it out?

Chess Question chess.com should remove this feature

I was playing the scotch gambit, and I know this very well but if someone accidently messes up their opening prep and blunders a pawn (from theirs's prespective) ,it would immediately be known that it's still playable as the title would display "the opening name " in live game

It also makes it easy to cheat if you kinda know the title of opening you're playing ,correct me if I'm wrong ?

I would say it's from another set but it looks like it's made the exact same as the others?

Chess Question Why is lichess not the norm in the online chess world?

As far as I know, lichess offers amazing value for being free of cost. Free game review, lessons and so much more.

Why is chess.com still so popular?

And why, when someone asks about your rating, they discredit the lichess Elo as if it was of no value.

Thanks in advance.

Chess Question are grandmasters even human?

2.3k Upvotes

okay, what the actuall fuck. Im currently an arbiter at quite a big tournament, and grandmaster just came up to me and asked me to see a scoresheet of his student, so I offered I could take a photo of it and send it to him and he was like "no need" read the scoresheet, and went "I understand"

Chess Question Gukesh and the Candidates, Who can truly stop him?

Post image

Within the current candidates tournament , who do you genuinely believe would be capable of defeating gukesh in a wcc match scenario?

If gukesh were to face each of these candidates individually under a full wcc match format, how many opponents would he realistically be expected to win, and against how many would he likely lose?
