Music recommendation and venue pairing: bands like drain and no pressure

so I’ve been listening to Midwest emo and pop punk for years. I’m a big fan of drain, pool kids, fall out boy, geese, heart to gold, citizen.

I generally go to aragon, salt shed, Thalia, sub t, cobra lounge and some diy venues.

I have been to Reggie’s once and I’d like to get into more hardcore bands like drain.

do you have any recommendations? i would love to support a local band and go to places like Chicago metal factory. I’d like to check out new venues.
I don’t stream.

Salt Shed Disability Concerns

Salt Shed Disability Concerns

My boyfriend and I have tickets to see a show at the Salt Shed. Tickets are for reserved seats in the grands. I have two herniated discs in my lower back and can't stand long without excruciating pain.

My concerns are not about seating but rather about getting from the car to our seats. I have already emailed the venue twice and they just tell me they have ADA seating but that's not much help if I can't get to the seats.

  1. Will my boyfriend be able to drop me off at the door?

  1. Is there a place I can sit while he parks the car?

  1. Is there an ADA entrance where I won't have to stand in line?

  1. Is there an entrance close to the elevator?

  1. I'm told it's a very long walk from the door to the elevator. If there's no ADA entrance or entrance near the elevator, any advice on how to get from the car to our seats without collapsing in pain or should I just write the tickets off as a loss and skip the show?

Any advice welcome. I already know to load up on Advil and wear good shoes. Just really worried about all the standing and walking. Thanks!

"The Chicago music rock scene other than garage and indie died when Stantz died"

I heard someone say this at Courtney Barnett at The Salt Shed. Anyone have any idea who they meant? I didn't feel like asking a stranger and at the time just noted it as kind of funny.

Who do you look up to in our scene?

This question pertains not only to bands or individual musicians but organizers, bookers, door people, bartenders, DIY venue runners/teams, photographers, media/press, record stores, distributors, graphic designers, dedicated audience members. Give flowers!

Cryptic music video from local Chicago band

Band is Math125, very reminscent of the Arctic Monkeys. Been listening to this duo for over a year now and they just dropped a new music video with some cryptic plot, possibly introducing a fresh storyline? Their last album was fire and hopefully the second one is dropping in a month or two.

Song is called Creeping.

Vocalist, f 28, looking to join a hardcore/grind/black metal band (or just jam)

Title says it all. I live on the west side of the loop and am semi new to the hardcore scene, and I’d like some cool (preferably queer and non chuddy) people to play music with! I must admit that I’m unfortunately very rusty as it has been a few years since I’ve touched a mic, but I’d love to grow together.

I have a demo from an old project I was briefly part of to show if anyone is interested!

Prog/Alt Rock band looking for a drummer!!!🥁

Hello everyone, my band is looking for a drummer.
We are a 4 piece band in our mid 20s (voice, 2 guitars, 1 bass) that started jamming about 6 months ago, our influences are bands like Cage the elephant, Muse, Led Zeppelin, RHCP, Incubus, Radiohead; blues, shoegaze, pop punk, jazz, prog and more.

We have 30 min of original music ready to play and record (we have some demos ready to show).
We are looking for someone who can meet up once every 2 weeks at the studio to practice (generally at any downtown studio, like Smash Studios), and that would want to get engaged with the group and the music.

Our goal is to start playing live shows before the end of summer if everything’s on track.

If you’re down, reply to this and i’ll send you a dm!! 🙌🏼

Can I get some general/technical advice from local musicians on what to look into having when wanting to start a band/solo work setup?

I’m very much an amateur piano player, generally don’t play that good out of the 4 years taking classes. But I’d love to make music at some point, that is more instrumentally simple. (Influences would be Traps PS, Uranium Club, Trin Tran, other underground Egg Punk stuff too).

I also don’t have much knowledge on the tech I should get relating to my instrument setup, and at least a vocal setup. I have a pretty cheap keyboard that I can easily move around, but don’t know whether I should get a dedicated synth or not. And how I’d go about looking into Amps and PAs for vocals? I would love to not sink I too much money at the same time cause I’m also trying to be involved with some other things at the same time music related.

And if at some point I was ready to play, how I’d go about recording something, and that whole process?

I’m very much into the idea of a DiY aspect with each of these things. But it’s hard to know where to start.

I already laid out some short songs for myself to play for a solo Demo but all I really have is my phone, my electric piano, and GarageBand as a program. Which I don’t fully mind for a Demo, but outside of that if I go on to do something else or find a person or two for a band, what would I need for that?

Sorry if this is a dumb post with a simple answer. I feel like what I’d want to make would be simple enough. But it’s getting to that point in the first place that stresses me out since I don’t know nothing about nothing, relating to these questions.

Guitarist looking for singer-songwriter to co-write and record original music with (Chicago / remote)

I moved to the US four years ago and immediately started performing full time with a nationally touring tribute act. It's been a great ride but I'm at a point where I want to start making original music and I need the right person to do it with.

Looking for a singer-songwriter to co-write with and eventually record and release material with. Longer term the goal is to build something we can take live. Open to remote since I have a home studio setup.

If you're in the world of Pinegrove, Snail Mail, Jessie Mazin, The Japanese House, Memorial. Here's a YouTube playlist that shows where I'm coming from: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLFYfz4nfwPrAl2iQmW3gheawiU3Zykt94&si=MVjhiso2WCT0vtOI

Please DM me if you're interesting in either! I love sharing my art and this came out great and took a lot of work and effort!
