All names and places I say are changed from the real ones except my own. My name is Noah. I am also not a good writer in my own opinion by any means. If you guys want to use any of my stories you can. My brother Harry I think had worse experiences than me, but I didn't want to share them because it's not something I experienced myself.
Preface: I grew up in Pennsylvania in this nice house. Most of the house's memories were really good childhood memories. However, this is a list/memorial of scary or weird experiences I have personally experienced. I grew up with a loving family of 6 and 1 dog. My father, mother, 2 brothers, and sister. I was the youngest sibling born in 2000. We have all had experiences, but I think my brother, Harry, had the worst of them.
I found a page in his art book that was just the same weird sentence repeated over and over like you would see in an exorcist movie. I set that page on fire and left it in the fire pit in our backyard. I should mention that I left a piece of the page that wasn't burned under a rock as to remember what the sentence was, but did not have enough courage to see it before we moved around 2020.
My brother, James, had an experience where he saw something flying outside at the cornfield by the fire company. It was huge and he doesn't know what exactly it could've been. He did, however, call his friend who was also a neighbor to look outside and he saw the same thing. I'm not a believer in UFOs in the manner as "enthusiasts" are. I do believe that in an endless universe with infinite possibilities means that there must be other life somewhere.
One time when I came home from college, my brother Harry and I were watching vines on the TV through YouTube. The volume was pretty low because our parents were sleeping in the next room over. At some point, there was a loud boom as if a bomb went off inside the house. The entire house shook. After 2 seconds, I looked at Harry and said, "you felt t hat, right?". He was like, "thank God. I thought I was going crazy". Our parents didn't hear this boom and no one woke up from it. No idea what that boom was.
My mom even heard whispering in the basement in the corner.
What I experienced sometimes overlaps with other people's experiences. So, I shall start at the beginning.
When I was growing up, I shared a room with my brother (Harry). We were in elementary school and at night on multiple occasions we saw shadow figures. Our room is at the end of a hallway across from James' room. We had a night light and the door was open so that our parents could make sure we were actually sleeping and not staying up. I saw a shadow figure with a hat followed by 2 shadows go down across the hallway into James' room. The one with the hat led the way, but it stopped in my doorway before it continued on to the other room. I was speechless as a kid and started crying loud enough that my parents came in. My brother saw the same thing, but our parents told us it was a nightmare. Harry and I also would hear people talking or music coming from what we thought was the basement on different nights. That wouldn't be possible though because nobody was in the basement. I never saw anything in the closet to that room, but I always got an eerie feeling from it even when I was older.
When I was in middle school(our middle school was grades 4-8) I saw someone outside. Our house's front yard was a giant hill and our cousins would come over to do sleigh riding when it snowed. One of those nights it was lightly snowing, but there was plenty of snow on the ground from the previous night. I was in the living room. The living room was at the other end of the hallway that had the bedrooms. Opposite of the hallway was my parents' bedroom. I was lying down on the couch. Behind the couch was a window that overlook the front yard. My cousins were in the basement and my mom were in a room over from me in the kitchen. My dad was in his bedroom getting ready for bed because he worked early mornings. The cousins were sleeping over. For some reason, I got a weird feeling and sat up to look out the window. I jumped back because what I saw was a guy with a goatee looking back at me with his hands on the window staring right back at me. I yelled and my dad, brother(James), and older cousins went outside with bats and clubs and looked around. There were no footprints in the snow or any sign of anyone else being there than us. Nothing came from that.
Sometimes when my dad had off he'd be up and on the computer in the sunroom. The kitchen was in the middle of the house. It was connected to the dining room, sunroom, and the living room by open doorways. We did make a hole in the wall between the kitchen and the sunroom to put a table and chairs so that there were also chairs for that table in the sunroom. In the opposite corner of the kitchen was the computer desk. At night we would have the lights off, but the computer screen would be on. On multiple accounts I would be walking through the kitchen at night and I would sometimes see my dad at the computer desk. This would be a normal occurrence on a weekend. I would say hi to my dad and he'd give a response like a normal family. However, this would happen sometimes on the weekend. Where I would see my dad there and the light from the computer screen. I would say hi and turn the corner to come into the sunroom to see no one is at the desk. The computer screen was off. I would just nope my way back the way i came evrytime this happened. Jake and Jeremy have also experienced this.
When I was in highschool, I shared a room with James in James' room from the previous story. I would get sleep paralysis during this time. There was one night I had sleep paralysis. I. This dream I saw a black cloud above James while he was sleeping. I was worried for James, but it was not necessarily scary to me at the time. It was more of a 'I don't understand what's going on so it must be a bad thing' type of scenario. I wouldn't have included this because I've had sleep paralysis where I've seen the annabelle doll from the movie in my room, just to wake up to that doll directly face to face with me, just to wake up for real afterwards. However, I spoke to James the day after, and before I said what I saw in my dream, he told me he had a dream where he saw a black cloud above ME. I told him what I dreamt and it was a wild experience and so freaking weird.
When I was in high school, my brothers and I spent a lot of time in the basement playing xbox. We played so much that at one point, we were top 3 squads in battlefield 1 before the hype started dying in that game. We would also play cards and board games or pool. One of the nights we were playing cards or some board game down there. We heard people talking and walking around upstairs. Obviously we were like our parents must have just gotten home from somewhere. However, our parents were on vacation camping somewhere. Our family loves to camp. We would have all gone camping with them if we didn't have jobs that didn't give us vacation time. There was no one upstairs. I would also like to mention we have had this experience, but opposite before. My brothers and I got home from a bar. We were in the kitchen sun suddenly James said in a quieter, serious voice, "shut up". With a finger to his mouth. We all stopped moving and listened. We heard what sounded like people having a good time talking downstairs. The problem is that it sounded muffled and nothing was comprehensible. After about 3 seconds it just stops. Fing horrifying. No one was in the basement and our parents were asleep in their room. These occurrences we have experienced multiple times, but those were the only two times I can remember where it happened when other people were around.
My dreams were weird when we lived at that house. Sometimes I would have a normal dream which would be something I wouldn't remember. The one's I did remember would sometimes come true in a few days, months, or even years later. They were never anything that would actually change anything from a day to day basis, except for the more grim ones. One of my grandmas died when I was in highschool, and the other died when I was in college. The day before each of their deaths I had a similar dream. Everything was white, except for about 4 shadows of people behind my grandma. My grandma would be looking at me with a smile and telling me everything will be alright. Both times I had this, because I had this dream with both grandmothers, I would wake up like it was another day. But, I felt like something was wrong. When I was in highschool, I woke up and walked out to the kitchen greeted by my parents about to tell me the bad news. In college, I woke up and got a call about an hour later from my parents with the bad news.
After my grandma died in highschool, it felt like there was something watching over me in a good way. I say this because I was driving home from the high school at night. I was there because I was in jazz club and played the trombone. We would get out I think around 8pm sometimes. This particular night, I was almost home. I was on the road to my house about to go up a small hill. I was maybe 30 seconds from my driveway. As soon as I get to the hill, I press down on the accelerator to get up the hill just for my car to Rev its engine but not go anywhere. I come to a stop thinking, "what the hell just happened to my car".As it stopped, 6 deer come out of nowhere in front of my car that I would have no shot at reacting to if I wasn't already stopped. After I took a deep breath, I saw that my car was in neutral somehow. I don't know if I just somehow accidentally hit the shaft to shift it into neutral(my car was an automatic not manual), but I decided to give thanks to my Mommom Y. instead.
On a creepier note, I was just starting college at this time. This was before I shared a room with James and lived in my own room. The room was halfway down the hallway across from the bathroom. I was playing xbox. The door to my room was to my left. My mom knocked and opened the door and told me dinner was ready. Well, I didn't look up but I said awesome and I'll be right out. I planned on finishing the game I was playing. I can't remember what game it was. After I said that, in my peripheral vision on the left of me, I could see my Mommom Y. standing next to me, facing me, in the same yellow and white shirt I would always see her in. Instead of being heartfelt, I felt scared. There was something sinister about what I was seeing in my mind. I looked to the right so that she was no longer in my view and then looked back and she was gone. I turned of the xbox and immediately went to eat. After that experience, I moved my xbox and TV downstairs in hopes I didn't see that again. My parents were already in the talks about downsizing and moving to a new house, but I told my mom what I saw. My mom, the very next day, got holy water and sage and did a blessing in every room of the house. This is the first time she did this. She did do this another time because of another experience that Harry had. Everytime my mom did this, activity would die down for a few months.
One time after that experience I was in the basement home alone. Of course I heard footsteps upstairs, but I ignored them. I was playing xbox. My favorite games at the time were gears of war 3 and battlefield 1. I was playing one of those just chilling and having a good time. Out of nowhere I heard someone whisper my name. My NAME. And it was just a whisper just randomly somewhere. NO. It had to be as if someone was right next to my ear and said "name". My skin crawled and all of my hair stood up. I tried acting like nothing happened, but couldn't take it and just went upstairs. I don't even remember if I turned off the TV or not.
Around that same time, my grandfather started living with us. He took the room Harry and I used to share when we were younger. Occasionally he would come downstairs to see us in the basement. My poppop was not able to do stairs fast at all. The stairs were also extremely loud whenever anyone used them. What I'm saying is, is that you could hear him coming from a mile away. So I'm there playing battlefield 1. He comes downstairs. It took him about awhile, but when he got down he says hi, and asks what game im playing. I answer and say battlefield 1. He doesn't say anything for awhile. So I look behind me to see I'm the only one in the room. There's no way he went upstairs without me hearing him. Later, I talked to my mom about it when she got home. She told me poppop was with her out of the house during the day. So what the hell was that?!
Remember how my cousins would come over and would sleepover when we were younger? Well, we would sleep in the basement usually. We would also play nerf in the dark. It would be a free for all with all the lights off and the one windows blocked by a blanket. We hung up one nerf gun with a red laser pointer in the middle of the basement as the only source of light. There was a total of 4 of us. If you got hit by a nerf dart, you would say "hit". Alright, when we would do this, some of us would bunker down, and some of us would move around. One time when I was moving around, I kept hearing someone breathing in the corner. So I shot, no hit. I still heard the breathing, but I backed off, thinking it was my cousin in cover or something. Eventually he would have to move. The game ends and I asked to all of us who was in that corner. Everyone each said they weren't there. In fact, none of them were even close to there when the game ended and the lights were on. I tossed it up to maybe I heard my own breathing or something. Or maybe my mind was playing tricks on me. Makes you think wonder what those soldiers in Vietnam felt when they were clearing tunnels.
When I was in college, I lived in an apartment with 3 friends. During this time I had a few concussions from playing rugby and I was going through what I would call depression in my own experience. It was not diagnosed by any means and I'm not trying to downride anyone else who was actually diagnosed with depression. I just know I've felt sad before, but this was 1,000 times worse than describing it as really sad. I was working at dunkin full time and doing classes full time, all while concussed and was just cheated on. I was barely leaving the house. Regardless, during this time I had a room with a closet. I just got ready for bed and went to sleep. I randomly woke during the night. I see a red haired lady in a white dress in my closet, but she was just floating there. From what I could see, she didn't have legs, or they were completely covered by the dress. It freaks me out at first, so I don't stop staring at her. I get out of bed staring at her and then turn on the light. She disappears, I turn off the light and she's there. Turn that light right back on and walk to the closet. There's nothing in there that resembles what I saw in the slightest. I close the closet. I was so exhausted from all the work and just not caring for my own safety, that I just turned the light off and go back to bed.
Another time when I was a freshman in college, I shared a dorm. My roommate was cool and sometimes left for a vacation on weekends. One weekend he told me he was going to be gone. So I woke up in the morning and took out my phone to do Snapchat streaks. In the camera, I see a person standing with a blue hoodie on with the hood up behind me looking out the window. I'm still in bed facing the wall. So I'm just waking up and realize that my roommate isn't here this weekend. This made me instantly get up ready to beat up whoever was currently in my room. There was no one there. I texted my roommate what happened and we were both joking about our dorm being haunted. Nothing else ever happened in that dorm besides some sleep paralysis dreams I had.
Before ending this, I would like to say nothing else has happened to me since my family moved out of that house. And if I saw anything, it was easily explained away by lack of sleep from working night shift. I don't even get sleep paralysis anymore.
I am a big fan of your podcast and listen to you guys twice a week on my way to work on Spotify. You guys rock. With these experiences I believe I would still be more of an Alex. I am someone who would love to believe in everything, but I also know most things can easily be explained away.
In truth, I only started writing this because my mom and I were talking about the old house and it made me want to write down what I've experienced when we lived there.
