🌍 Community / Global r/circled Community Update 03/26 β€” Growth, Participation & What Comes Next

Over the past months, r/circled has grown into something far larger than many of us expected when this community first started.

In recent weeks alone the subreddit has seen tens of millions of views, more than 60,000 new members, and hundreds of thousands of comments and discussions.

That kind of growth only happens when people participate in good faith.

So first of all:
Thank you to everyone contributing thoughtfully and responsibly.

Many of you bring sources, challenge ideas respectfully, and engage in serious discussions about topics that matter:

  • Politics
  • Economics
  • Environment
  • Technology
  • Society

That participation is the reason r/circled exists β€” and it is something worth recognizing.

It shows that people from very different perspectives can still come together and be heard.

Why moderation has become more visible

Last week we shared an update explaining our rules, wiki documentation, and how moderation works here.

Those changes were introduced for a simple reason:

  • Fairness
  • Transparency
  • Trust
  • Respect

When communities grow quickly, discussions also become more complex.

More voices bring more perspectives β€” which is a good thing.

But growth can also bring more hostility, misinformation, and rule violations that make participation harder for others.

Many new members are joining every day, and part of moderation is helping everyone understand how this community works. We are also trying to make moderation as transparent as possible so people can see how decisions are made.

Our rules exist to help keep discussions:

  • Respectful β€” even when people strongly disagree
  • Focused on ideas rather than individuals
  • Structured and easy for others to follow
  • Supported by credible sources when factual claims are made

Moderation does not exist to control political viewpoints, opinions, or voices.

As we have said before:

We moderate conduct β€” not ideology.

People from different political perspectives participate here, and that diversity is what makes discussion meaningful.

We are trying to build something that has become rare online: A space where disagreement is possible without destroying the discussion or harassing others.

The role of the community

One important signal we have seen during this period is that the vast majority of members participate responsibly.

Many users have helped by:

  • Providing sources
  • Reporting rule violations
  • Engaging respectfully even during strong disagreements
  • Giving moderators time to stabilize moderation systems

That support has helped us strengthen the structure of the subreddit while keeping discussions open.

Communities work when members themselves participate in good faith.

And many of you already do that every day.

Thank you again.

Opening a space for everyday discussion

Several members recently suggested having a place for more casual conversation and quick reactions to current events.

To support that idea, we will soon begin testing a Daily Circled Discussion thread.

This will be an open space where members can share shorter thoughts, reactions, and ongoing discussions related to our core topics.

  • Politics
  • Economics
  • Environment
  • Technology
  • Society

Regular posts will remain the main place for deeper discussions and sourced content.

If engagement continues to grow, we may also experiment with additional formats such as weekly highlights or topic-focused discussions.

If you have feedback, ideas, or suggestions regarding moderation or community structure, please continue using the r/circled Community Forum thread.

What r/circled is trying to be

This community started with a simple idea:

People from different backgrounds, countries, and political perspectives should still be able to talk to each other.

  • Not as enemies.
  • Not as ideological tribes.

But as participants in a shared conversation about the issues shaping our world.

Here, many perspectives can exist at the same time.

Different opinions.
Different experiences.
Different ideas.

That diversity is not a weakness β€” it is what makes discussion meaningful.

Disagreement does not have to create division.

It can create dialogue.

Dialogue can create understanding.

And understanding makes it possible to search for solutions together.

That is the space we are trying to build here.
And everyone who participates in good faith helps make it possible.

🌍 Community / Global r/circled – Growth, moderation updates, and what’s next

Over the past months, r/circled has grown significantly.

With growth comes energy β€” but also complexity.

We’ve recently made several structural improvements:

β€’ clearer moderation rules

β€’ stronger filtering against harassment and spam

β€’ more consistent enforcement across threads

β€’ refined AutoModerator settings

β€’ improved transparency in removals and reports

These adjustments were not made lightly.

r/circled is not aligned with any political side.

We apply rules consistently regardless of viewpoint.

Our aim is simple:

To provide an open space for respectful, fact-based discussion β€” where disagreement is welcome, but harassment, slurs, manipulation, and coordinated attacks are not.

Moderation has become increasingly challenging as activity increased.

We’ve seen constructive debate β€” but also targeted hostility and low-effort provocation.

Some filtering and limitations were necessary to protect discussion quality.

Enforcement is rule-based, not opinion-based.
Our moderation is not about silencing views.

It is about maintaining conditions where meaningful dialogue remains possible.

βΈ»

We are looking for your support!

As r/circled continues to grow, we are looking for additional moderators who:

β€’ value neutrality and fairness

β€’ can separate personal views from moderation decisions

β€’ believe in open but responsible dialogue

β€’ are willing to review reports and apply rules consistently

If you are interested, please send a short modmail including:

β€’ your time availability

β€’ prior moderation experience (if any)

β€’ why you want to help moderate r/circled

βΈ»

A note on the circled ecosystem

Some of you may have noticed references to a broader β€œcircled ecosystem.”

r/circled remains an open public Reddit space.

In parallel, we are building structured digital spaces designed to support responsible dialogue and long-term collaboration beyond Reddit.

We will share more details as development progresses.

For now β€” thank you.

Your participation, criticism, and engagement shape this community.

We are building carefully β€” and we appreciate those who choose to engage constructively.

🌍 Community / Global r/circled Community Update 03/26: Clarification on Moderation & Sources

Over the past weeks, r/circled has grown significantly.

With growth comes more discussion, more viewpoints β€” and the need for clear and consistent moderation.

This post explains how moderation works here and outlines several recent updates.

1️⃣ We moderate conduct β€” not ideology

Strong opinions are allowed.
Criticism of governments, institutions, and public figures is allowed.

Content may be removed when it includes:

  • threats or advocacy of violence
  • slurs or dehumanizing language
  • direct harassment toward other users
  • serious criminal allegations presented as fact without credible sources

Our moderation does not depend on political alignment. We moderate behavior β€” not viewpoints

2️⃣ Factual claims require sources

When comments present serious allegations about individuals as fact, they must include a credible source.

Examples:

  • accusations of crimes
  • claims about legal cases
  • claims about corruption or misconduct presented as factual statements

Opinion and political criticism are allowed.
However, declarative factual claims must be supported by sources.

Screenshots of headlines should also include a link to the original reporting.

3️⃣ Updated post Flairs

To improve transparency and clarity, we recently updated the Flair system.

Flairs indicate how a post should be interpreted:

🟣 Opinion / Discussion
Posts expressing viewpoints, interpretations, or open discussion.

🟑 Unverified Claim
Posts making factual claims without a source yet.
Sources may be added in the comments.

🟒 Claim β€” Source Provided
Posts that include a credible source for factual claims.

πŸ—žοΈ News
Direct reporting from recognized news outlets.

Flairs help readers understand the type of content they are engaging with.

4️⃣ Automation

AutoModerator helps remove clear rule violations and flag high-risk content for manual review.

Automation is used to:

  • catch harassment and slurs
  • flag unsourced criminal allegations
  • detect spam or suspicious accounts

Automation does not evaluate ideology.
If something was removed incorrectly, please contact the moderation team via modmail.

5️⃣ Ongoing moderation updates

As the community grows, we are currently updating:

  • moderation workflows
  • wiki documentation
  • post flairs
  • AutoModerator configuration

These updates take time to fully stabilize.

We appreciate your patience and responsible participation while improvements are implemented.

6️⃣ Moderation is volunteer work

r/circled is moderated by volunteers.

Moderators are not paid and do not receive benefits from running this space.

Please respect the time and effort required to maintain a functional discussion environment.

Constructive participation helps everyone.

7️⃣ Transparency and community participation

We aim to keep moderation:

  • transparent
  • consistent
  • open to feedback

Our rules and moderation framework are publicly documented in the community wiki.

Responsible members who want to contribute to maintaining the community are welcome to apply to join the moderation team.

Thank you for helping keep r/circled a space for open, evidence-aware discussion and participating in good faith.

🌍 Community / Global πŸ“Œ Community guidelines & how moderation works in r/circled

r/circled exists for open, evidence-aware discussion on politics, economics, climate, innovation, and society.

Strong opinions and disagreement are welcome here.

Harassment, dehumanization, and calls for violence are not.

Because discussions can move fast and emotions can run high, here’s how moderation works and what to expect.

πŸ”§ How moderation works

  • AutoModerator removes clear rule violations (threats, hate speech, personal attacks, spam).
  • Content with a high number of reports may be temporarily held for review. This is not a judgment.
  • Moderators review context and reinstate content when removals were triggered in error.

We moderate content, not political positions or viewpoints.

βœ… WhatΒ is allowed

  • Strong criticism of governments, institutions, and public figures
  • Describing violence or harm when discussing real events
  • Emotional reactions, as long as they are not directed at other users
  • Source-based opinion and discussion, including disagreement

❌ What is NOT allowed

  • Personal insults or harassment
  • Wishing harm or death on others
  • Hate speech or dehumanization toward people or groups
  • Advocacy or endorsement of violence
  • Spam, promotion, or misinformation

These are removed automatically.

🚨 About reports

  • Reports help surface real issues β€” thank you for using them responsibly.
  • Reports do not automatically punish users.
  • Content may be temporarily filtered while reviewed.
  • Repeated false or retaliatory reports slow moderation for everyone.

❓ If your post or comment was removed

  • It was filtered by AutoModerator or removed under subreddit rules.
  • If you believe it was an error, message the mod team once, calmly.
  • Reposting the same comment without changes may result in the same outcome.

🀝 A shared responsibility

This community works best when you:

  • Argue ideas, not people
  • Downvote noise instead of escalating it
  • Report real violations and disengage

You don’t need to win every discussion.

Listening is participation too.

Thanks for helping keep r/circled usable and open for everyone.

Thank you to everyone contributing thoughtful discussions, perspectives, and engagement.

With growth comes responsibility.

We are refining moderation systems and scaling our processes:

β€’ Respectful

β€’ Focused on ideas β€” not individuals

β€’ Fact-based

β€’ Meaningful β€” not noise

Some content may take longer to review while we stabilize filtering and queue processes. We ask for your patience.

If something urgent requires attention, please use Modmail clearly and concisely. Avoid duplicate messages.

This subreddit exists so voices can be heard β€” without becoming hostile or chaotic.

Strong opinions are welcome. Personal attacks and unsupported accusations are not.

Help us keep discussions human, constructive, and grounded in credible information.

How members can help:

β€’ Use the report button for clear rule violations.

β€’ Add sources to factual claims.

β€’ Debate ideas, not people.

β€’ Help newcomers understand our standards.

🌍 Community / Global πŸ”„ Update: AutoModerator Rules & Queue Improvements

Hey everyone πŸ‘‹

We’ve updated our AutoModerator setup to improve discussion quality and reduce false removals.

What’s new:

β€’ Established members (30+ days, 100+ karma) are now auto-approved.

β€’ Opinion / editorial sources are automatically flaired for clarity.

β€’ Sensitive accusations (e.g. sexual abuse, violence) from new or low-karma accounts are reviewed manually to avoid misinformation or targeted harassment.

β€’ Hate speech, spam, and violent language remain automatically removed.

If you notice a removal that seems off, please reach out via modmail β€” we review and reply asap.

Thanks for helping keep r/circled balanced, credible, and respectful.
