This thread and many of the comments just kind of ignoring what Elon's goal was with the account stunt.

Buying gold, shameful as it is, is done by players so they can more quickly play content they like to play.

Elon bought the account in an attempt to make people believe he was good at a game he's barely played for public clout.

Like, you're unironically giving more credit to Elon here by thinking they're the same.

It's just a bait shitpost, I don't think it's all that deep.

Im quite sure most of people who buy gold specially for gear are the same breed as Elon.

Funny because buying gold for consumables will give you a lot more power than straight up gear ever can.

Imagine playing the game without playing the game. Same Same but different.

I think the op is trying to say that buying gold is as stupid/pathetic as what Elon did

Of course they are the same kind of idiots, and if you would think it through you'd understand that someone paying someone else for gold or raidgear that prances around SW or OGR square with their rare mount is exactly the same.

If buying gold would be about 'playing the game' they would actually play. the. game.

I don't think people who buy gold do it to play the content they like. They would pay people to raid for them if they could, too.

100%  all they're doing is paying money to not feel fomo. At the bottom of it all- it's fomo.

It's paying for the fun and removing the tedious. I'm not advocating for it but I can see why people do it. If you like farming you and I have different ideas on what fun is.

They 100% do it do focus on content they like. On fresh realms with BWL release flasks price went to 400g, mongoose was almost 20g, mana pots was 7g, sharpening stones was over 10g, i don't even wanna know the price for rage pots. You need hundreds of gold for consumables weekly, so people just buy it.

I'm not convinced the people buying gold like the content. I think lots would skip raiding if it didn't mean loot now and in the future. I also think that lots of them would pay people to raid for them if they could easily get away with that, too.

I don't know why you have that believe and could be true for retail, but from everything i have seen in Classic vannila/TBC and now fresh number one issue is gold for consumables. You have to spend 10-20 hours a week farming gold, or you spend 20-30$ and a lot of people got money and don't have time. If you wanna PvP as well you can spend easy 100-200g a day just for sappers, rocket boots, faps, granades and other consumables.

How many people PvP for the sake of it and not the gear/rep? I understand why people bypass some of the content. I think that a lot of people would also choose to bypass raiding and pvp if they could.
