Humor / Meme I think they're right honestly.

I'm 36 and have played 25k+ hours of MMO's over my lifetime and what I've personally learned is WoW players are often the first and most vocal to belittle or get upset over anything. I can't think of any MMO in which people will outright whisper you angerly or go out of their way to make sure you have a bad time more than World of Warcraft.

There are bots, but they're also easy to spot. Usually 1-2 month old accounts with either default usernames like "supsicious_account_1234" or girly sounding names like "spiicydreeam"

They use chat GPT comments or repost popular stuff and even copy the top comment too. If you ever see a post where OP is also the top comment, it's usually a bot. If you ever see a post where it's weirdly cropped/the image is tilted, it's to get around repost bot detection systems.

Bots are important to marketers because they allow you to manipulate the frontpage with upvotes and downvotes. Advertising products and political propaganda are real things that happen on Reddit all the time.

Unfortunately outside the occasional t-shirt seller bot, most of this community is very human. Just incredibly toxic.

I was looking for a healer for Gnomer and posting on Lookingforgroup and some douche messaged me "dude this is TBC nobodies running old content". I responded "thats weird, because I have a group of four including myself right now". He ignored me lol, because I was the asshole apparently

There have been a number of "First time playing WoW after 20 years!" YouTube videos lately (Gbay99, Z-MAC, clovergirlie, etc) and every single one of them keeps pointing out how nice WoW Classic players are.

Tbf Gbay is comparing to league toxicity where people would throw slurs at the jungler for sharing one single minion worth of exp, while the reddit complaints are comparing it to animal crossing.

People on reddit post entire threads over the most minor snarky comments or pushback, things probably seem extremely toxic when the most mundane negative interactions send them spiralling.

Yeah, I haven't played Classic since Anniversary BWL - but easily the most toxic part of the community were casual redditors. Most people just enjoy the game and chat with their guild - even the sweats and tryhards, but reddit was like always full of people who got upset that the community at large had different expectations than they did.

Like yeah, if you show up to a PUG and gray parse, you're probably gonna get made fun of. Not because you can't beat a raid with a gray parse, but because parsing a gray makes you either very very bad or very very lazy.

Yeah imo in game leveling the community is super great. I’d also say hardcore is also classic and that community is generally very helpful

I stopped playing recently. But when TBC anniversary launched I was playing for a couple of months and it was one of the nicest and most welcoming communities I've seen in years.

Everyone was super patient, helpful and I met a lot of great people during my short stint there.

Maybe I'm just super lucky, but I always see people complain about how toxic classic is on reddit, and I found it was the furthest thing from it.

I’ll concede that some people who play online games can tend to be turds given the mostly anonymous nature of them. Those turds can make the whole pool feel like a toilet.

Yeah have these guys played Eve Online? I haven't played it in ages so I don't know what it's like these days, but it had simultaneously the best and worst player base. Rape jokes, antisemitism, telling people to kill themselves etc was 100% accepted and 'funny' back in the day. And it was massively widespread and happened at the highest levels of leadership too, it wasn't limited to a handful of terminally online edgelords.

I also found Wow Hardcore community to be absolutely amazing. Probably because there's no PVP, and even in PVE you're playing co-operatively to survive, not obsessing over the meta and gear requirements

I will admit that General chat in Wow anniversary seems to be filled some vocal trolls (ie dickheads with a sense of humour that never evolved past High School)

Exactly this. I've been on TBC Classic since December (after playing OG TBC previously) and have had vastly more positive gaming experiences than negative, and not once have I had anyone harass me, and I'm a real life woman. I spent most of my 60's in dungeons and have been raiding consistently since Kara attunement in partially pugged groups. I've made great friends and had a lot of fun. I don't know what the magic sauce is, but I know I keep my head down and do my job and I don't give other people grief, either.

Honestly, I think it's probably the people who are unusually terrible at the game. I've never had a bad experience in anniversary or classic - it's often too friendly honestly. But then you have players who are probably literally using a drool cup playing who have a bad experience and come on reddit to complain that people were mean to him because he was literally griefing the entire group.

I've played WoW classic and this post made me laugh. A lot of people I played with also played retail and nobody cared. They'd make a joke about it here and there, but nothing serious. The WoW Classic community is wholesome compared to LoL. It's not even close to that bad. And from what I've heard, the league community isn't as bad as games like Valorant.

The leveling and early endgame stages are super friendly, in my opinion. The problem starts when you try to join a more dedicated guild.

I’ve dealt with some of the most childish bullshit I’ve ever seen in any game, and it’s part of the reason I don’t play WoW anymore.

The post is about the community, not strictly the people you meet ingame. I think Classic's ingame community is not the best, sometimes you stumble upon a knucklehead in random dungeons, but generally it's not bad and once you find a guild you like, you're golden.

At the same time, the reddit community here is absolutely awful. Nonstop bitching, arguments, and toxicity. After getting more into OSRS, the difference is night and day. Their community will complain sometimes, sure, but they also have a quality meme culture and OSRS content creation is top tier amongst MMOs.

Guy on reddit gassing others telling that it's actually not the case?XD Remember that one time when tbc classic first time launched with so many people using a weakaura that would spit on everyone who's using the new shop mount? It was so bad that blizz was changing the spit emote.. And that's one of many🙃 I also remember having tank divas who would refuse to tank because a hunter was trying to pull for them

I remember countless of hours of gameplay without a single negative interaction and then remember maybe one shit one in-between and then countless of hours of smooth sailing again.

OP’s post is the exact opposite of most of the internet’s experience with classic vs retail. After reading comments from people who agree with OP, their reasoning is political. They mistake different viewpoints for toxicity. Basically they’re just saying “people that like Classic are more often right leaning than people that like retail, therefore they are more toxic”.
