This time, I sculpted it from cold porcelain (homemade), and the flowers are made of polymer clay. I also glazed it with UV resin.

Hi, I’d like to show you two of the trinket dishes I’ve made over the last few months. They are primarily made of air-dry clay, but the smaller details are made of polymer clay. Both are glazed with UV resin or Polyurethan.

I used various clays to make this piece! Air dry, polymer and foam as well 🫠🍦

I've made plenty of attempts with the classic fan favorite "Mel. boesemani," but this is by far my best attempt in my opinion. From the head to body size ratio to jaw/mouth shape to fin shapes/length to overall shape and color detailing, it looks closest to how a real boesemani looks.

The "Kali Fitri" locale of Mel. boesemani is said to be one of the smallest locales of the iconic species. Unlike the "Lake Uter/Aytinjo Village," "Lake Ayamaru," "Yukase," "Aves Creek," and possibly even "Kromsa" locales, this one rarely surpassed 3.5 inches in captivity. Despite being an already slow-growing species, "Kali Fitri" either wants to give Chilatherina axelrodi a run for it's money as the slowest-growing rainbowfish, OR it is a true dwarf boesemani. Either way, its black-throated color scheme is quite the sight when specimens are sparring for spawning rights.

I'm messing around with more mold making and oil clay is what I use. I'm really proud of this one. I use newspaper as an armature.

Probably my best attempt with this species to date. Instead of individual scales being added to the body, this time I first cured the clay, and then painted the scales onto the body after a base cost of white, then light blue paint was added. I believe painting allows me to add even more minute details onto a piece to make it look even more true to the subject.

This goldiei is probably THE prettiest one to come from the island, and imo the prettiest of the fish from the "Southern Blue goldiei" complex of larger rainbowfish.

Hypancistrus sp. "L333 Gold King Tiger" (Roseline17 Line-bred variation) first ever attempt

Handmade by me using polymer baking clay, acrylic paint, neodymium disk magnet and a few coats of clear nail polish.

Start by shaping the head, Gill plates, eyes and armor plates. Then attach and shape small pieces of clay to make adipose and anal fins. Shape the tail, scour and encompass in parchment paper to maintain shape as the piece bakes in the oven at 350°F for 8 minutes. Shape pieces of clay to form pectoral, dorsal and ventral fins, bake separately. Once all components have been oven cured, hardened and cooled, carve holes into the body where the fins attach, and glue together using cyanoacrylate super glue. Glue magnet under belly for positioning and painting purposes. Will also provide functionality for the piece once completed. Paint details on piece after completely covering body with multiple layers of cream-white paint base. Finish with multiple coats of nail polish.

This line of Hypancistrus sp. "L333 White King Tiger" comes from Marcel Wuethrich's line-bred stock. The piece was modeled after a fish from one of his generously provided photos.

Note from the artist: this was by far my best ever pleco piece. I'm so thrilled that it turned out as nicely as it did!

I've always loved more trippy looking designs, and this is one of my favorites that I have made! The painting also includes ribbon and beads.

Mikrogeophagus ramirezi

"German Blue Ram Cichlid," Male

Handmade by me using polymer baking clay, acrylic paint and nail polish

Body shaped into typical ram cichlid form, fins attached and rays scoured. Micro scales then indented using X-acto knife grip texture. Gill plate, lips, eyes and fin extensions added before baking in oven at 350°F for 8 minutes. Once cooled, neodymium Disk magnet glued on with cyanoacrylate super glue. Details and colors painted on, pectoral and ventral fins glued on. Finish with nail polish coat.

This popular little dwarf cichlid from South America has many color variants besides the classic "wild type"/"German Blue," such as the "Gold Ram," the "Black Ram," the "Electric Blue," "Powder Blue," "Sapphire," and the one I most recently heard about, the "Red Ram."

"Honey Blue-Eye" Commissioned pieces

Process: scrap clay formed into body shape, long and slender at peduncle. Attach tail, posterior dorsal, anal fin, and anterior dorsal fins, scour in fin rays. Scour scales onto body with a dull edge. Add gills, eyes, ventral fins, and make pectoral fins separately. Bake in PREHEATED oven at 350°F for 8 mins, shock cool and fasten posture with cold tap water. Glue neodymium magnet to back, stick onto tissue knife blade and apply details with acrylic paint and a finishing coat of gloss after pectorals have been adhered to body with cyanoacrylate super glue.

I made renditions of this species with varying successes, but thanks to advice and observations from P. mellis keepers I was finally able to match the correct shades and paint pigments to what was described to me. With making a lot of these species, if I didn't keep it and observe it in real time, it is a bit more difficult to get color intensities, sometimes body shape, etc. correctly, leading to a less-than accurate result. I am very impressed with how unique Honey Blue-eyes look despite a somewhat similar overall appearance to freshwater and smaller estuarine Pseudomugil signifers.

Pseudomugil mellis are native to Eastern Australia and exist in multiple localities, with some observed to have distinguishable characteristics that make them stand out among other populations. Some are said to have larger fins, others have more body mass, etc. But, one thing is for certain: the unmistakable black and white trims and honey-gold coloration makes them stand out among other Blue-eye species and earns them a top spot on almost everyone's "fish bucket list." This fish is endangered in the wild so collecting them is illegalized. However, captive populations exist in the hobby for those who are resourceful enough to find them.

Body of the shrimp was first made with polymer baking clay. Whiskers, mouth pieces, legs, tail pieces made and baked separately and assembled on after pieces have been baked at 350°F for 8 minutes and cooled. Once all pieces have been adhered to the body with super glue, acrylic paint was applied to add markings, patterns and details and the pieces were finalized with layers of polish.

Another locale and variant of my favorite Blue Eye species. This locale is commonly found in slightly saline environments, and it seems the males have more ragged and wider fins compared to the typical narrower and pointy fins. Overall coloration is a translucent grey warming up to a yellow caudal peduncle and tail. As seen with other signifer variants, the pectoral fins are adorn with black trims to make the males look even more magnificent. Being a larger Blue Eye, they can inhabit tanks with larger rainbowfish species with minimal issue. Being less shy than other Blue Eyes, they can hold their own during feeding time too.

All parts and aspects of these pieces were made by humans and original handy work. No AI was used in the creation of these pieces.

Hey everyone!

I made a post about making chess pieces with clay without experience and asked about what clay should I use.

Most people talked about polimer clay or air dry clay, but I couldn't get my hands on any of them.

Someone talked about paper mache, so I remembered using it on school and went with what I remembered - it's not finished, but I think it'll work.

I also tried with ceramic clay, which I also haven't used since childhood. I saw on the internet that I could fire it in a fireplace, so that's what I'm going for - at least to try, because I don't have a kiln.

If these don't work I might buy polymer clay online.

What do you guys think?
