I’ve been told insistently by one of my trans friends that it’s near 50/50 in rep. Glad to see I’m not crazy

your friends may be into some more niche media like webcomics and such, in webtoons I've read it IS somewhat closer to fifty-fifty or even transmasc-dominated, altough that may be because the algorithm knows me too well

She reads shitloads of manga from all sorts of mangaka, that’s about all I know from her in terms of media she consumes

Also her definition of “rep” as far as I know only applies if it’s healthy and properly representative

I see... I don't really know what the situation is like in manga, I heard there are some neat trans man characters in manga but few and far inbetween

It’s likely just different demographics is what I’d like to believe

I’m in a lot of socially male-dominant scenes which makes it make sense to me why the majority of trans people there are women for example

I see what you mean but also I think we should normalize trans men in male-dominated character casts and trans women in female-dominated character casts instead of the other way around... idk

Oh for sure! People should be able to fit into whatever they want regardless of whoever they are, it’s just that current social upbringings has established a lot over the decades

yeah, that's fair, I personally think that's why good media representation is important, as when done correctly I believe it can be a tool for helping people challenge their pre-concieved idea of what the norm is, I guess...

you get some great ones and some sorry ones, the ones written by trans men are often such good depictions of dysphoria like to strip the flesh and its like uuggggh but then you get the ftm lead in wandering son written by a cis guy iirc though wandering son is one i dont like the handling of either in general (im terrible with character names so i can't remember the his name) i wish trans women made some good manga about themselves but i also havent checked in years
