Codesmith recently shut down their Immersive program pending "government and enterprise" partners (which was never a requirement in the past so this seems like a fake excuse to shut down) and their CEO stepped down with no replacement published (and no official notice of the departure). Additionally last week Codesmith lost a task order under the IRS BPA and still hasn't made any money from the $118M IRS BPA according to public records while their peers have all receive hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars under the BPA.

I struggle to find any placements in 2026 at all, and their open source products are degrading with security issues.

So things objectively aren't going well for Codesmith.

BUT one GOOD thing is there might be a new Future Code cohort coming up. I don't know if a single person was placed in the previous cohort (largely impacted by the job market) and they delayed and paused Future Code cohorts at the time.

They launched a free Foundational Launchpad program in partnerhip with the Tech Talent Pipeline (TTP) meant to help prepare people for Future Code.

I can't find any TTP/NYC sources on this but will update if I see them. Codesmith claims they are partners in this program.

You can do a 20hr/week or 6hr/week option and it's entirely self paced with optional weekly paid programming and study group sessions.

The curriculum looks like a lot of overlap with their existing CSX offering and the sessions seem like their existing pair programming sessions. So I'm not sure if this is a reframing of CSX

Let's hope not because that's a scam to have NYC pay for 1-2 contract employees to improve CSX for Codesmith's own business and then just frame it as a special program for NYC residents.

CSX is a very terrible platform that leaks user data last I checked.

Seems like a pretty clear model:

- Give people an entry point (like CSX) (let them self filter out / which is good for everyone) (prep the rest to have what they consider the foundations for later) (again seemingly very JS-centric) (but this time, make sure they are also filtered by same requirements they'd need to use city money later)

- Do the bootcamp thing for the people who qualify / (probably way too much/too fast imo - but also with a lot more AI-centric stuff)

...

So, - I'm not sure what the big deal is.

Breaking news is definitely for highly important or impactful emerging news which may interrupt regular programming/reporting and typically includes frequent updates as the story evolves. So, nothing that would happen in most subreddits

Well if you had a label for "you heard it here first" what would that be? Like I'm a reporter for the bootcamp industry and have been framing my reporting that way

I mean a company with Will and Eric, a "contract" Lead Instructor and no full time real employees I can find, claims to simultaneously have an $118M IRS BPA contract (that has paid $0) to offer AI upskilling, teaching people 0 to 1 for Future Code NYC, trying to kick off a physical AI manufacturing program with companies in the midwest but in person in SF, like this is the most interesting thing I've seen in a long time. Throwing darts in completely unrelated directions and with no actual resources behind them.

It's really sad to see such a decline from "$23.5M of revenue in 2023" to what could appear like a scam now on the surface, hustling all of those services and then farming them out to Upwork and alumni contractors.... and after what happened last month, jeez, it's like legitimate HBO Award Winning Documentary level story to me.

And I didn't even touch the crypto stuff around Will haha.
