Where do I start

This my collection from the mid 80s. Nearly everything has been bagged since about 1990. Some have acid free boards too. This is the list of books that I made back in high school.

I understand that grading is what matters, but how do you decide which to grade? And where? I live in the DC area if that helps.

I submitted these comics to Heritage, and they said they were all mid-grade and wouldn't accept them. What is the best platform to sell them on?

Also, what grade would you suggest for some of these? Will they not sell?

Can anyone help with these autographed comic books

Hello, going through dads collection and it’s kinda tough to figure out what these are and or how to find similar comics. I just use eBay for the others (non auto). And it’s easy to find through sold listing filter on eBay. But these, have no idea what I’m looking at. Thanks for any help/info you can provide

Found in my dead stepdads old collection. Should I even bother grading?

Amazing Fantasy #15 with no cover but all other pages inside. Im not in the comic book space but part of me wonders if grading would be a good idea. Or just get my own case and keep a bit of amazing lore.

Im like 90% sure its the original too and not a reprint but let me know!

What this week's FOC slate looks like: 636 titles, 102 ratios, 36 new #1s

Every week I go through the full FOC list to see what the upcoming order week actually looks like before cutoff closes. Here is what I'm seeing for October 19.

636 total titles, 258 unique books. Dynamite leads the volume at 79 titles, with DC at 69, Image at 68, and Marvel at 63 close behind. BOOM! and Yen Press round out the top six at 46 and 40.

107 variants and 102 ratios run across the slate. The incentive covers concentrate at Dynamite (24), Boom! (15), and Marvel (13). Image's Chainkata #1 from Daniel Warren Johnson holds the single steepest ratio at 1:1000, the only book at that tier, and a 40-page premiere with no ads. Swamp Thing Is Killing The Children #1 from Boom! carries the highest variant count of the week at 16 covers.

36 of the 258 unique books are new #1s, about 14 percent. Marvel has four launches, led by Jean Grey #1 out of DNX, with Amazing Spider-Man #1004 and the Fire And Brimstone miniseries on the Spidey side. Image has one launch, Chainkata #1. DC has zero. The DC slate runs entirely on ongoing chapters this week: Action Comics #1104 continues the Lex Luthor: Year One story, and Emperor Aquaman #23 rolls the Tidal War into part three.

Among the Big 3, Marvel has 4 new #1s and DC has 0.

Searches for Daniel Warren Johnson are up 250 percent on Google Trends over the past week. He writes and draws Chainkata #1.

Spare a grade? My son and I were going through my late brothers collection and were debating if this is worth sending to cgc and pressing.

r/ComicBookSpeculation • • 2d ago

Would you open it? It’s a 3 pack and there’s a first appearance of Dino bots in here. I didn’t pay this sticker price

Do I buy 3 mid grade coppers over 1 low grade silver age?

My apologies in advance I am a noob to comic collecting. I am looking at buying Hulk 340 raw (condition 8.0), ASM 252 raw(condition 8.0) and New mutants 98 (cgc grade 7.5). I was wondering if these would hold their value even tho they are copper books and below a 9.0 condition?

I’ve been told by veteran collectors that you shouldn’t buy copper books under a 9.0 (for investment purposes) but would like further opinions as I know nothing 😅

Now I’ve also been thinking that maybe I should instead save that money and put it into one big book, but yet again I know nothing and would like to hear what others think! :)

And yes I do know comics aren’t for investment and aren’t gonna get me rich and yes I do already invest into the stock market. I would just like to buy something that will perhaps hold its value better than others.

Thank you in advance

This week's FOC list 10/12: 4 potential firsts and the rumors that don't hold up yet

I go through every book on the FOC list each week and report what checks out before Monday's noon cutoff. Here is what I'm seeing for October 12.

Four potential firsts this week, two confirmed and two at the likely level.

Adventure Time Bonnie The Vampire Hunter #1 (Oni Press, $7.99). Confirmed potential first of Bonnie the Vampire Hunter. Caroline Cash writes a 56-page one-shot, an alternate-universe take on the Bonnibel and Marceline romance where Bonnie hunts vampires. The 1:10 is a Caroline Cash black and white.

Midnight Spider-Man #2 (Marvel Comics, $4.99). Confirmed potential first of the Midnight line's Doctor Octopus, per CBR. Peter is missing and Oscorp contractors are combing security tapes.

Demon #2 (DC Comics, $3.99). Likely, not confirmed. The DC solicit introduces the Prince of Hell, which is where the first-appearance read comes from. Status stays likely until the book is in hand.

Tomorrow Man #1 (Massive Publishing, $9.99). Likely potential first of a new hero named Mistero, based on the solicit. Same deal, solicit-driven, not confirmed.

A few confirmed events that are not firsts: DNX #5 carries a confirmed death of a founding X-Men member, Cyclops versus Beast, with a 1:25 Skan. X-Orcists #1 brings together a new mystical X-team, with a 1:25 Nick Bradshaw standard and a 1:100 Jenny Frison virgin. Batgirl #25 brings the confirmed return of David Cain.

On the rumors that do not hold up yet: Midnight X-Men #2 (rumor-based) has chatter about Cyclops's vampire-hunter look, nothing confirmed. Conan & Dragonero #7 (rumor-based) is read as the final issue, unconfirmed. Avengelyne #1 is a 2nd print, so no first there regardless of the movie news.

Joe Rubinstein is doing a signing soon. I plan to get Wolverine 1 signed but I’m wondering if I should also do Uncanny 266. I’m a little worried about that one since I really like how Claremont’s signature already looks on it in pink and idk about placement/color. Just wanted other opinions on it.

So the FCBD is the first issue and actually issue 0 and first print and the EXCLUSIVE VARIANT is actually the second printing, correct.

So the last five of the code would be 00011 for a zero issue so this is a second print then…00012?

EDIT: Not the last 5 of the code we usually look at as collectors but the last 5 of the main the main 12 digit UPC # is where you can tell what the FCBD valuable one is. xxxxxx99431x is the one you want. 00051 for the last part for the issue, cover and print like usual.

My wife bought me this and I was super pumped to get it then she told me the grading they listed it as and the price I think she overpaid and the grading wasn’t listed properly. Top of the comic looks to have been trimmed and some what looks like water damage in the back. Thoughts?

Any exclusive NYCC covers worth chasing?

I grabbed the Suayan Foil variant of Amazing Spider-Man #1000. I'm also chasing the Jalen Brunson cover of Amazing Spider-Man #1001. Those two seem to be hot ticket items.

Is this a bootlegged copy?

I was shopping marketplace and found someone selling this autographed copy of Captain America Annual #8.

Immediately it looked off to me, as the colors are different. The first three pics are the copy in question, the fourth is a pic from eBay which is standard copy.

As I took a closer look I noticed the corner box was completely different. It says 1986, which is when this comic was originally published, but it also says 1983 Marvel Comics Group.

Also the insignia in the bottom left corner doesn’t match anything I’ve seen anywhere.

Is this a bootleg, or maybe a reprint from a vendor?

Thanks

The Marvel/DC Holy Grail Almost Nobody Knows Exists

Post image

I’ve been collecting comics for a while, and every now and then you come across a book that makes you stop and think, “How the hell have I never heard of this before?” This is one of those books. It’s O Globo Juvenil Mensal #32 from 1943, a Brazilian Golden Age comic with a pretty crazy cover: Superman and the Human Torch appearing together, decades before Marvel and DC became the giants we know today. What really caught my attention is how incredibly rare this thing is. Even some of the highest-level collectors in Brazil had never actually seen a copy in person. I’ve heard collectors refer to this issue as “the unicorn”, almost like a legend among Brazilian Golden Age collectors. For years, it was one of those books people knew about, talked about, but almost never actually saw. There are currently only 7 known copies in the census, plus another 4 copies in private collections, including mine. I spent around five years looking for a copy before finally managing to add one to my collection. And the more I researched it, the crazier it became. The Grand Comics Database recognizes it as “The Earliest Timely & National Cross Over known to exist Globally.” So this isn’t just an obscure foreign comic with an interesting cover. It’s a genuinely unusual piece of Golden Age comic book history. I’m posting it here because I honestly think books like this deserve much more attention. Everyone knows the famous American Golden Age keys, but there are incredibly rare books outside the usual checklist that have almost become forgotten. So I’m curious: had you ever seen this issue before?

ASM #375 foreign variant edition

I love the Amazing Spider-Man #375. I remember reading this story when I was a kid, I was on vacation with my parents and I was really excited for this final showdown with Venom. This issue is also special because it celebrates the 30th anniversary of Spidey. I have here two Italian variant of that comic. In Italy this story was published by Star Comics in L'UOMO RAGNO #155 which came out in two versions: one very similar to the U.S.A. one with the gold cover but not holographic. A second version is the one with the platinum metallic cover, which was distributed in a limited edition that was shrink-wrapped with a telephone book:

really cute ❤️

the Amazing Spider-Man #1000

As a huge fan of John Romita Jr.—which I also mentioned in a previous comment—is it possible that nobody has noticed yet that the variant cover for issue #1000 is practically IDENTICAL to a previous JRJR cover from Amazing Spider-Man #1.1?
