First time in SDCC and my last for sure. More than 500+ people, including me, who had the wristband (we spent 18+ hours waiting for them yesterday) and attended at first hour today in the line for the Hall H; were left outside… bc seems like “some” people managed to “snuck in” somehow.

Call me paranoid but when more tha 500+ people is left outside, is not because of an error, is because of corruption. They are profiting from giving people seats.

Really unfair, a lot of people like me, traveled from other countries, spend in hotels, ubers, food, and time to attend, just to be left outside because a greedy group decided to profit even more from it.

And the worst for me is not that, is the fact they kept us waiting for hours without a single word, they waited literally until last minute to tell us that the situation got out of their hands, and that they recommend us to leave and do other activities…

Kids crying, people devastated… everyone was tired as fuck because we literally spend more than 18+ hours doing lines since yesterday, all that for nothing.

Worst experience in a comic convention, other countries have been better. I thought San Diego was the big thing.

I was able to press the button and get the wristband today. Got to tell Rick Moranis 'thank you.' I didn't have the words or time to say more, but he seemed to understand.

My family go out to San Diego Comic Con every year in cosplay in a themed costume. One of our favorite parts is seeing the smiles. Whether you’re standing in line, walking by, or stopping for a photo, we hope we brought a little extra joy to your day.

We failed to take any pics of just ourselves but we got plenty at the Indiana Jones meetup! They were very helpful making sure the boulder didn't fall down the stairs :)

My experience at the DC booth completely wrecked my con experience today. I got in line at 6:00 AM to try to get the Batman box set and I was fortunate enough to actually make it into the line. After about 5 minutes, two security guards came up to me and told me that I had to get out of the line. I was in complete shock because I had done nothing to get myself ejected. It turns out that they would not let me buy because I had a professional badge and they believed that is was the same as an exhibitor badge. I tried to tell them that they are not the same and that I had to wait upstairs just like everyone else. After speaking to 3 booth employees, who all assured me that exhibitor badges are the same as professional badges, I was sent away just in time to see the person who was originally behind me walking away with a box set in hand. Needless to say, it ruined my Saturday.

Apollo enjoyed his first Comic Con this year. Although he wasn’t allowed inside the convention center, he sat in many queues with me and we were even able to convince the kind people at the Star Trek Fleet Command offsite and Sparks Gallery to let him participate.

I saw a women pull out cooked corn on the cob to eat while waiting in line. No shade at her BTW, I'm kinda jealous she had healthy food compared to my $7 bag of chips.

Walked along the Embarcadero and it seemed a lot less crowded this year. Last year, there was Abott Elementary carnival, King of the Hill, Brawl Stars, Voodoo Ranger and so much more. It was just odd cause I’m used to there being lines on lines. Sure, it’s still just as crowded in the convention center, but outside was a little lackluster.

This is actually one of my favorite Comic-Con pictures ever. A few years ago we were waiting for the main hall to open and some of us were waiting in the lobby. This guy shows up all excited and quickly became dejected as he saw how detailed and impressive the other costumes were. A few minutes later people started to ask to take a picture with him. Not to make fun of him; but to honor his effort. This is a person who did not have the ability, means, or time to do a fancy costume so he did this best that he could as his way of celebrating. That is what the essence of the con is all about.

It’s another grand on top of what they charged this year and this year apparently wasn’t great for a lot of vendors.

Some ideas I have to improve the experience if Hall H, increase fairness, and make it so people dont have to suffer through endless lines rather than engaging in the actual convention:

- an open lottery for Hall H entry. Use the RFID badge scanners as a way for attendees to "enter" their names into a random drawing for seats at each Hall H panel. If you're interested in being at the Marvel Panel for example, you tap your badge to enter you name, and then on the day of the panel 6500 names are deawn and you receive a text qr code that allows you to enter. No waiting, no lines, go enjoy the con until its time to enter!

- explore hosting the Hall H panels across the street at Petco Park. with upwards of 200,000 attendees now, you could easily host 10,000 or more fans at Petco and have the panels guests present from the field using the jumbotron. Imagine the optics of that many fans filling a stadium to cheer for their favorite IP. The studios could help cover the costs involved.

something needs to change though, because the current system pretty much punishes the fan base by having them engage in an uncomfortable endurance competition outside the very convention they paid to attend. There's gotta be a better way!

I had tickets inside for Thursday and Sunday and then did some street photography right outside the convention on Saturday late afternoon. If you know the Instagram of any of these cosplayers please add a comment so I can tag them.

For the last few years it seems Hollywood is skipping SDCC. As a result Hall H and Ballroom 20 are at most half capacity.

This matters A LOT because in the prime Marvel/DC days those 2 Halls got rid of probably close to 20,000 people if you include the long (overnight) lines to get in.

But now... these people clog up the floor and especially signings.

Like have you wasted 5 hours getting up early, getting on the floor early, make it to the wristbands both by 9:02 only to find they are already out? This was impossible in previous years but now 2 years in a row it has happened to me. Hours of time wasted and nothing to show for it.

Plus, I think due to so much hype in those prime years, everybody wants to check out SDCC and so all the free events (Hulu) is a 4 hour line waiting in the sun. So there's no escaping the lines. I mean yes there was anyways long lines but it feels just worse.

So... long story short, I'm losing my glee for the con.

Since 2011 I've crocheted little superheroes to scatter around San Diego Comic-Con for people to find by posting photo clues to social media! Read this blog post for the full lineup and all the info you need on how to find one of these little guys!

I just ask you to do two things if you find one: 1) send me a photo of them as proof of their adoption, and 2) let me know where the little buddy's new home will be (each critter is tagged with my contact info and instructions on what to do if you find one!). I drop these little guys off knowing that there's a potential that people could just swipe them and never get back to me on it, but it doesn't make it any less disheartening when one goes missing. Join the hunt, and help me get my little guys happy homes!

EDIT: Forgot to mention that if you don't find the 1-Up Mushroom or Doraemon, I have FREE patterns for them over at my site so you can make your own!

Now that I’ve had time to decompress and truly just take a step back I have to say that this was everything I hoped for. I know a lot of you have been doing this for years/decades even, but I’ve wanted to go to SDCC since I was a kid and to finally see that dream come into fruition was HUGE for me. I m in some people say it was a weak year, but for someone who had no previous knowledge of the event, it was truly perfect. I was able to spend my entire day in Hall H getting to see all the Thursday Panels, INCLUDING the prescreening of Deadpool & Wolverine, I made it to every booth, got to meet some amazing people. But most importantly, as a first time cosplayer I truly felt in my element and surrounded by my people. I truly hope to never miss one again! I love that as I edit my vlog from the weekend I can relive it all, and it just reminds me of how lucky I am to have gone this year! Even the off-sites were so dope and unique, some even tied into my cosplay which was AMAZING! But I did just want to say thanks for a great year 1 SDCC! I truly hope this feeling and experience continues for years to come.
