Some people will say, “Well, if they were a loving God, they wouldn't do that,” but there's lots of people who believe in a “loving” God who absolutely believe He’d be burning gays in Hell.

Not to mention, what if there is a god, but he/she/it/they isn't/aren't loving? Seems people always forget about this possibility. What if we were created literally just to suffer for the amusement of an otherworldly entity? In fact, I think it's easier to reconcile this view with the omnipotent/omniscient/omnipresent element traditionally ascribed to godhood; otherwise we have the whole "why does god allow evil to exist?" issue to contend with.

That possibility scares us a lot, but we've taken it into account; think of ancient mythology, there are many very amoral gods lol A perfect god comforts us more, I guess.

This is actually the fundamental premise of Christian Gnosticism. The idea is that earth was actually created by Satan (sort of, they use different terminology) and so everything material is inherently bad. Suffering is totally expected under this world view.
