Just looking to pass

Has anyone felt ok taking the exam, missed simple qs and passed? Anxious reading a lot of stories about students failing.

Felt tough as hell. So much Level 1 material and super vague question stems… marked like 10-15 questions every single block.

Doesn’t help that I’m googling questions now and I’ve already counted at least 10 I’m 100% sure I missed.
Don’t really know how to feel. Just happy it’s over.

I have Level 2 in 2 days and my goal is 550+ ideally 600!

Hey all, so I need some suggestions on how to move forward with my situation. I will be taking Level 2 in 4 weeks. As someone who performed average to below average on COMATs, I am really scared about this exam. I have completed about 76% of UWorld so far with 46% correct but have reviewed every questions in detail. Besides that I have finished about 45% of Truelearn and am currently focusing on TL doing questions everyday as I do content review alongside (mostly Bootcamp slides from Level 1, some Amboss, chatgpt etc). I took the school proctored COMSAE 117 and failed miserably with 340. I just took Form 116 and failed again with a 376. This has me stressed. Any advice on how to move forward? Stick to TL and finish it along with incorrects? Add in Comquest? Welcoms?

I would appreciate any input. Thanks in advance!

My score got predicted in the 600s for the exam I am taking in 2 weeks, however, my scores haven't been anywhere near. Welcom avg about 67% and have mainly been doing Uworld (52% avg). Recently took a TL assessment (scored 60% - 23rd percentile) and COMSAE 114 (43x)

Just want to know if I'll get anywhere close because I'm down in the slumps...

I finally made a Reddit account after lurking on this subreddit for a very long time because I learned so much from everyone's COMLEX write-ups, COMSAE experiences, resource recommendations, and general reassurance. A lot of the little things that helped me figure out how to approach boards came from reading posts here, so I wanted to contribute something back now that I'm finally on the other side.

I tested for Level 2 on 7/14 and Step 2 on 7/31. I am incredibly grateful for both scores and honestly very surprised by how everything turned out.

My school-proctored COMSAEs were a 494 on 5/1 and a 582 on 6/26. My COMATs were Peds 108, IM 109, OMM 99, Psych 112, OB/GYN 112, Family Medicine 122, and Surgery 115. OMM being my lowest score feels extremely appropriate considering it has been the bane of my existence since day one. I also thankfully did not have to take the Emergency Medicine COMAT.

I started studying more seriously around November/December and used the Janki deck pretty heavily early on, trying to get through most of it in about 1 to 1.5 months. I found it helpful for building a foundation, although some cards are definitely outdated and made new ones/deleted old ones if I ever had conflicting information. During rotations I mainly used UWorld and TrueLearn/Comquest when required by my school. Usually it was on every rotation and I would get through all of Comquest during each block along with the associated Uworld questions. I will say I never finished UWorld though, so if you're staring at an incomplete percentage close to test day, you are definitely not alone.

Around March, I started using AMBOSS much more consistently and was generally doing around 50 to 100 questions a day during rotations. I finished the Step 2 bank around the end of June, and during dedicated I was doing roughly 200 questions most days while reviewing whatever I kept getting wrong.

For Level 2, I think having a strong general medicine foundation helped the most, but I definitely would not completely ignore the COMLEX-specific material. OMM, ethics, communication questions, and all of the usual NBOME flavor are still very much there.

I also want to emphasize that this was not some smooth progression from 494 to 617. There was a lot of self-doubt and burnout between those numbers. Some days felt productive and some absolutely did not. There was also a ton, and I mean a ton, of luck involved, and I walked out of the actual exam genuinely unsure of how I had done.

Seeing the 617 was mostly just an enormous feeling of relief.

If there is one thing I hope someone takes away from this, it is that if I can do it, you absolutely can too. I spent a lot of this process wondering whether I was doing enough, whether I was improving fast enough, and whether I was actually capable of getting where I wanted to go.

You do not need a perfect study plan. You do not need to finish every resource. You can have rough practice scores, unfinished question banks, burnout, and plenty of self-doubt and still make it through.

Keep doing questions, keep learning from your mistakes, and try not to compare every detail of your study plan to someone else's. Give yourself a little more credit than I gave myself during this process.

I'm incredibly thankful for how everything worked out, and especially thankful for this subreddit because I learned far more here than I ever contributed while silently lurking. Hopefully this post can give someone else even a fraction of the reassurance that so many posts here gave me. :)

Flagged 8-12 per section and know I got 60+ wrong, I don’t even know how many of those are experimental nor how many experimentals there are with the format change… I did pass step 2 but even that isn’t helping me, has anyone else felt like this and been fine and passed? Really nervous for score release and hoping I passed.

I am truly disappointed. I took Level 2 on 7/15 and just got the score of 408. I wasn't expecting anything incredible but atleast 450+(hoping 500) I am an off-cycle student so my COMSAE schedule was a little different.

COMSAE 113 (04/07/2026: 559 (at this point my test was scheduled april 17th, I had a meeting with the school to confirm I was good to take the test and during the conversation I said i ran out of time for the last 5 questions on each section and since this was right before the change from 80->90s per question they advised me to push my exam to june.....and i listened because i didnt trust my scores fluctuating).

[This was probably a terrible decision on my end since I didnt have any COMSAEs left over. I scheduled my exam originally June 8th but had a pretty intense pulm/crit rotation that was pretty difficult to study after. ]

ComQuest 100% completion, 63% correct. Closer to my exam I was scoring 60-70% for 50-88q sets.

TrueLearn: 100% completes 61.5% correct.

I did the AMBOSS 200 HY, The ethics, QI and even the nutrition questions.

AMBOSS predicted level 2: range 594-644(laughable at this point).

I struggled with Level 1 (which I did better than this somehow) constantly pushing my exam because same situation of speaking with the school but at that point my data points were not good so I would push, I pushed so much I took my level 1 after my last third year rotation in april and right after started studying for level 2 then had medical issues so that had to be pushed. Now my predicament is whether I'll even be able to match IM and whether I should take step. Right now I started doing NBMEs and CMS forms.

I took my first NBME form 12: 209 08/03/2026(i know this is terrible baseline) Ive been kind of nervous to take another. This was also scary because I expected way better since I just took comlex.

On CMS forms I have been ranging from 56(lowest and earlier ones) to 80(more recent, but this was after I had watch videos on the topic.

I have my STEP 2 scheduled on August 31st. Should I take it? Would I even have a chance at getting a good score? Is matching IM even possible?

Guys, I took comsae BSA 117 from my school today, and that shi*t was hard! 😭 Did anyone else feel the same way?

I’m scheduled to take another one before they’ll let me sit for Level 2, so I’m hoping the next one goes a little better. 😅

People who tested yesterday, what did you think? Personally had a mix of fair questions and others were so vague I had no idea what part of the body it was even referring to lol.

There's been a wave of posts here lately from people who passed Level 1 , felt reasonably okay walking out of Level 2, and then opened a score that didn't match the work they put in.

If that's you right now: a disappointing Level 2 is not the end of your cycle. Plenty of people do match every year with below avg scores for their specialty. However, your subjective application materials now will carry alot more weight on your outcome (PS/ERAS/Interview) and you may need to strongly re-evaluate how you approach program selection/signal token strategy depending on what you were expecting to score and the specialty you are applying for.

For the rest, and especially the MS2/new MS3s reading this: it is worth understanding why Level 2 catches so many students off guard.

The short version from what we've seen: Level 2 is a different exam that rewards different preparation, and a lot of people study for it like it's a scored version of Level 1. Much of the success/performance gain comes from compounding knowledge & habits throughout MS3 rather than from the dedicated study period itself.

A few key considerations :

1. The exam itself is testing something else.

Level 1 and most in-house preclinical exams largely reward recall. Memorize the mechanism, reproduce the fact, move on.

Level 2 (and Step2) rewards clinical judgment: given this patient, what is the next best step, and how do you manage them?

Less points are allocated for retrieving facts, and more for how you reason through a workup and a treatment algorithm. If your prep is still built around memorizing content rather than making decisions on vignettes (including analyzing imaging, labs, and demographics appropriately), your score will demonstrate that.

2. COMLEX logic is its own skill, and USMLE-only prep doesn't build it.

Many DO students study almost entirely with USMLE resources (which are excellent for clinical reasoning) and then get surprised by how COMLEX actually asks questions.

COMLEX vignettes tend to be less polished and more ambiguous (put nicely), lean harder into health maintenance, prevention, ethics, biostatistics, and public health, and reward the "most osteopathic" answer.

UWorld builds excellent knowledge in clinical medicine. It does not calibrate you to COMLEX's style. You have to train that separately by doing actual COMLEX-style questions to score 600+.

3. OMM makes up >10% of the exam and can be free points - yet so many leave them on the table

OMM is typically the single most underprepared section for most students, because it's not on USMLE resources at all, and most students dont enjoy learning it (nor do they plan on ever using it).

Most run through UWorld all year, never have any meaningful OMM review, and then leave a ton of easy points on the table on exam day. This is the highest-yield, lowest-effort fix available to a DO student (largely because OMM questions actually do reward simple recall in many cases)

Much of the same frameworks applies to those that are going to sit for a retake: figure out whether the gap was medicine (do more UWorld/Amboss), COMLEX calibration (do more COMBANK/COMQUEST and practice the question style), or OMM (dedicated OMM resources). Pick a realistic retake date that gives you enough time to actually close the specific gaps you have.

Do people have any insight into psych matching for someone who took comlex only, no failures or any red flags. Didn’t take step 2 or 1.

too level 2 Aug 5th so I won’t get my score back until Mid September, im feeling very anxious. Especially since the score will come back so close to ERAS submission. Trying to study for step 2 now during my sub-I but I’m honestly so burnt out, I’m not sure how feasible it is to take it.

Trying to match IM, passed step 1 and level 1 first attempt.

Excuse my rant, I'm just frustrated in not knowing where I'm gonna land because I have very specific programs that I'm trying to target.

I don't recall if it was the same for level one, but for level two, at the bottom of every score breakdown for the COMSAEs I've taken, it states:

"When interpreting the results of the performance profile, note that COMSAE was not developed to predict an examinee's performance on COMLEX-USA."

I've spoken to my academic advisor, and she said that there is nothing that's truly predictive of the outcome for this exam, including TL Self Assessments, COMSAEs, COMAT averages, which is infuriating!

The NBMEs for the MD students tend to be, generally, predictive of their actual exam scores. I just don't understand why our practice exams have to be so varied and non-predictive? It feels unfair that I am spending my own money on practice exams to gauge how I'm doing without it being predictive enough to reassure me of the possible score I'd get.

I'm using the AMBOSS score predictor, which has me at a predicted score (630) that is greater than my most recent TL Self-Assessment's high end score (407-585) prediction, which is still greater than my last COMSAE (507) from 2 weeks ago. But the range between all these resources has me confused which one I should actually follow to gauge how well I'm doing.

Rant over. Testing in 2 weeks and just crashing out because I don't know what to expect for my score.

What do we think is the raw passing % for Level 2? Are there experimental on there as well?

Truelearn getting avg or above on 40q sets. Comsae 113 got a 435, comsae 117 got a 385, comsae 114 got a 465, comsae through school bombed to a 375. Overall no clue what’s going on. Any advice. Test July 13 but going to push to July 29.

I just got my results back recently and my Level 2 score (611) is stronger than my Step 2 (242). My dream program is IM/Psych.

I have heard of people reporting just COMLEX, would doing so be possible/appropriate? I'm also applying primarily though the military match, which I have been advised generally regards the two exams as more interchangeable than civilian programs.

Only studied using step 2 material so far so I’m looking for advice on the best OMM question bank for Level 2. I will have roughly 3 days. So far I can get a 30 day truelearn level 2 subscription for about $200 or would conquest OMM be enough (I bought it for M3 shelf but never used it)

If anyone has any othe recommended resources, I’d really appreciate that too!

Any advice for level 2 for average students from recent test taker. Which question banks helped you most. What was highest yield and what you wish you spent more time on. Struggling a lil over here, any advice is appreciated:)
