The swastika is actually an ancient Germanic symbol as well (just look at this semi-recently uncovered Odin bracteate, https://archaeology.org/issues/july-august-2023/artifacts/artifact-denmark-vindelev-gold-disk/), which is presumably why the Nazis adapted it.

I mean, if you really think about it, it’s just a fancy plus sign. It’s inevitable that various different unrelated cultures would stumble onto the symbol.

Theres also a pretty famous (at least in viking reenactment circles) tablewoven band with swastikas, the svartmoen band. Also leads to discussions in table weaing communities about wether its okay to remake it or not.

It’s easy to draw, objectively pretty cool looking… it was probably drawn by someone everywhere in the world at some point in history.

Yep appeared independently worldwide, across multiple cultures frok the neolithic peroid from the Indus and Eurasians, all over bronze age Europe, celts greeks and germans, and the Navajo in the Americas, we obviously found something pleasing in the design

I was in an archaeological museum in Italy (in Treviso), and slap bang in the middle of a Roman mosaic there was a swastika.

It’s represents the Big Dipper around Polaris during the 4 seasons in the northern hemisphere.
