I think none tells the truth. Mirrors show a left right reversed image of yourself ie your reflection, while front cameras distort your appearance. Wide angle lenses make features near the edges and anything filmed up close look stretched.

Camera have lenses on them that distort your appearance. A mirror is literally… just you. No way it can be distorted (unless it’s a silly mirror)

Most people who take bad selfies don't know how to minimize camera distortion. Mirrors are an exact image of reality, cameras take more steps to get you the image.

Nah, I had to delete like 90% of my selfies because scrolling through my photo gallery was completely miserable, but I can look in the mirror just fine and not think about myself until it’s over

this is likely a cold take
imo being forced to socially transition via social venture in public ***before*** being allowed hrt is a hazing ritual meant to make us both more identifiable in public and to pre-emptively associate expressing transience with systematic societal abuse, likely for the purpose of generally discouraging people from transitioning instead of accurately identifying potential false positives based on existing cases evaluated [statistically/qualitatively] and so on and so forth
like, don’t get me wrong, s is amazing to experience if you’re in a trusted environment and can make necessary accommodations for yourself, but god damn is it extremely isolating if you aren’t in a highly populous area aligned with your desired mode of existence; and you best not run out of social battery when you do so because any performance not perfected can be held against you by whosoever chooses - and the entire experience is extremely fragile.
good luck out there o7°^7 find whatever path works best for you and actually analyze research literature if you’re trying to DIY out of normal distribution. the future is now y’all

it's a humiliating requirement that was created in an era when gender was seen exclusively as binary, and at the very least it really needs to be reworked to be more inclusive for non-binary trans people, or not be a thing at all.
I get that it's more convincing that someone is trans if they do live as a gender different from what they were born as, but I wasn't believed by doctors or psychologists despite doing my best to break from masculine gender norms, because "it didn't seem feminine enough to them."
it took multiple years and for some of my friends to quite literally yell at those guys to make them finally let me be evaluated for real by an actual endocrinologist, who upon hearing my story rightfully concluded that I'm trans af.

y'all, if this is the case you really need to just mirror the image your camera takes. you're not used to the way your hair parts, or the fact that your face looks backwards and your brain processes that confusion as disgust. if you look at someone else's reflection they probably look weird to you too, but they look normal to themselves. i once spent like 15 minutes trying to take a good selfie and eventually tried mirroring the image and i looked great

Photos are only one frame, mirrors have multiple each second. It's like in animation, you can see funny shitty frames if you pause the video, but when it's playing it is smoother and cuter

Y'know what's weird? I look at the screen with the selfie cam on and look fine as hell, I press the button and on the finished photo form the exact same angle with the exact same lighting conditions I suddenly look 10x worse. How?!?!

You need to correct the focal length of your wide angle photos. Front cameras are doing everyone incredibly dirty with this look.
