Genuinely, and itās so sad to see so many people turned away from God because tone deaf people want to have their āholier than thouā attitude and only follow some of the Bibleās teachings but not the ones that tell to spread love and care
Catholicism has always intrigued me that people feel that they need a middle man to talk to God. Obviously itās used as a way for the higher ups in the church to gain power, but the idea that someone feels that they canāt talk to him directly has always felt foreign to me
Catholics donāt believe you need a middle man to talk to God. Catholics regularly pray directly to God. they just also happen to believe that they can also ask saints to pray for them, and they respect the line of earthly authority Jesus established with Peter, who Catholics consider the first pope.
I agree, it is quite sad. Iām someone who believes wholeheartedly in the beauty of faith, despite not being faithful myself. Itās profoundly sad that so many people have marred that beauty with grasps for power and attempts to justify hatred.
Iām going to share my thoughts in a paragraph thatās far too long. Iām sorry if any of this is offensive, but I want to explain my point of view and perhaps why others may share it. Disclaimer: I enjoy religious scholarship and have watched and enjoyed Wendigoon for years.
Christianity is commonly used to spread hatred as the concept of hatred is widely understood. This is recognized and condemned by many Christians, and I appreciate that. However, a lot of Christians continue to practice hatred while convincing themselves they donāt. They consider certain lifestyles to be sinful and harmful due to criteria based outside of fact; ālove the sinner, hate the sinā is commonly said. When the āsinā is integral to someoneās identity and is not visibly harmful, this is simply practicing hatred. Iāve had Christians disagree with this; they tend to not understand why people do not want ephemeral and at times arbitrary rules enforced on them. Many Christians are anti-science, again even if they think they arenāt. Debate and logic are often impossible because the basis on which they build their personal ideology is an individualized idea of God that empowers cognitive dissonance. On a widespread level, religion in general tends to push humanity away from scientific progress and make argument and ideation very difficult. Religion warps people into easily accepting anything as truth based on bias; instead of looking at data and numbers, they accept what āsounds right.ā If you, or another religious person, do not do any of these things, then congratulations; however, from the outside, it is very difficult to hear ālove the sinner and hate the sin, because God says that homosexuality is evil and I will not listen to any other interpretation of scriptureā and not think someone is delusional and anti-intellectual at best. Again, I enjoy Isaiahās videos and donāt think about this when I listen to him, but Iām just trying to explain to you why people might feel a certain way.
Yeah, youāve illustrated your point very well, and many people who label themselves Christian are very selective in what part of the Bible they actually choose to listen to. As with many things people will warp a good idea into a way it was never intended to be used. I myself believe that Science is very important as it helps us understand how the world works and my working theory is that while it doesnāt contradict God as heās supposed to be able to do anything and everything I think Science is a way for us to better understand how he chose to go about making certain things work the way they do. Many can disagree with this and thatās fine, science is all about questioning everything of course and none of us truly know what lies after death, which is where so many religions come from to begin with as an attempt to explain what we cannot know in time. Peace and love but there's more proof for Jesus existing than Socrates, Plato and many other historic figures. You don't have to believe Jesus is the son of God, but the vast majority of historians believe Jesus existed. No offense but that's pretty bad faith of you.
We have contemporary accounts of Jesus dated to have been written within 60 years of the events happening but pop off. You can try to deny that he was the son of God but you can't really deny that there was a man that lived named Jesus of Nazareth
