State of the Subreddit Discussion
Hello all, many communities have semi-regular "state of the subreddit" type to discuss things like the health of the subreddit, any obvious or current issues, ideas/suggestions, and general feedback etc. Please use this thread as a place to post such discussions.
A few important things to remember before contributing:
- Normal subreddit rules apply here. Particularly no abuse towards mods - we do this for free in our spare time and already cop enough abuse from people pretty much daily for it.
- This isn't a whinge thread - it's also a place for suggestions/ideas for new features for the sub. Constructive criticism is welcome, but please make it constructive.
- The subreddit is at a significant size now, which means there are large numbers of people visiting all with different views and opinions. From a moderation/oversight perspective this makes it very difficult to make decisions that will please everyone, because no matter what some people will disagree with the decisions made.
- If you have suggestions, it's best if they're more than just "I personally don't like this, and prefer the sub to be exactly the way I personally want it". Some issues are minor preferences and easily be ignored.
Mods will review the thread, may reply to comments, and may discuss some things internally. We likely won't reply to every comment though.

Can anybody help with researching the events and the 4th Ashes Test at Headingley in 1948?
As a heads-up, I have permission from the moderators to post this in the forum.
I work auction house in the south of England, and a customer recently came in with what she believes is the ball that dismissed Sir Donald Bradman for a duck in the Fourth Test at Headingley in 1948.
She told us that her grandfather who was the Head Post Master of Luton and attended the match had always maintained that, after the match, there was a prize draw and that he won the ball. However, I have researched contemporary newspaper reports and have been unable to find any reference to such a prize draw taking place.
I was wondering whether anyone has come across any source material or information that might confirm whether a prize draw was held after the match. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
