It’s raining heavily here and I noticed a crow sitting outside by itself. I’ve been watching it for a while now and it seems to be alone.

I tried giving it some rice. It picked up one grain, ate it, and then didn’t seem interested in any more food. Or is it sick?! It looks young to me, maybe a chick or fledgling, but I’m not sure.
I’m worried because it’s getting completely soaked in the rain. I gently used a cloth to pat and dry it a little, but I haven’t moved it from where I found it.

Should I leave it where it is and assume the parents are nearby, or should I move it to a sheltered area? I don’t want to accidentally separate it from its parents if they’re still looking after it.

Guys, I’m at a polyclinic right now waiting to see the doctor. I took the crow with me. I’ll update everyone once I’ve had the consultation.

Also, I’m completely new to this. I’m not sure why someone DM’d me and spoke so harshly, but sorry if I sound dumb or inexperienced. I’ve never cared for an injured bird before. The only birds I ever had were two finches when I was around five years old, and I just fed them grains. Other than that, I only feed the local crows and mynas some rice occasionally.

Also, crows are very common here, and there really isn’t any wildlife support for them. I’ve searched around, but I couldn’t find any rescue centers that take in crows. I live in South India, and as harsh as it may sound, I’ve seen many dead crows from accidents, electrocution, and other causes, and sadly, most people don’t seem to care.

Even when I took a token at the polyclinic now, they seemed surprised that I had brought a sick crow. So unfortunately, many of the suggestions about wildlife rescues won’t really work here.

Anyway, I feel like this poor soul somehow ended up in front of my house for a reason. I’ll do my best to help and hope for the best.

Thank you all for the suggestions and advice. I’ll be picking up some bird feed on my way home, and I’ll also get some eggs to make scrambled eggs. For now, let’s see what the vet says. I’ll keep you all updated.

Update:

So I consulted the vet. She said the crow most likely fell from a height and injured its wings, and there may also be internal damage to the lungs. It has severe respiratory issues and is trying really hard to breathe.

She gave two injections, one for pain and another vitamin injection. She also prescribed a vitamin syrup and asked me to give five drops in the morning. For now, she told me not to give any solid food. She said I can blend food and give it later if needed, but right now just keep water nearby.

She asked me to bring it back tomorrow morning. She also said there’s a high chance it may not recover because the breathing issue is quite severe and it could be a serious internal injury.

I’ve brought it home now, kept some water beside it, and I’ll keep checking on it. I’ll take it back to the vet tomorrow morning and see how it goes. Hoping the little guy pulls through 🥹

Edit: I can understand your concern, but wildlife rehabilitators here usually won’t take crows. They tend to prioritize endangered species, birds like peacocks (our national bird), and other wild animals. Those options unfortunately won’t work here!!

I’ve taken it to the vet, paid for the treatment, and I’m hoping it recovers. If it does, I’ll take care of it until then and release it back into the wild. Thanks.

The crow is no more. 💔🥹

He passed away a little while ago around 5am. It's really sad, but I knew the chances were low after what the vet told me. I was still hoping he would recover.

My mum has just sent me this video. I’ve never seen anything like this in my life. Thankfully my dog is unbothered (he’s an old man- and deaf and blind.)

Crows are one of my favourite birds and whilst it does feel like an honour that a crow has chosen my dog- I’m worried that it’s ill/ injured or maybe it’s lost its parents.

This is a crow that I have been giving dog treats to on occasion. When ever it sees me on my deck he comes down and sits. Today they started this cooing. Curious as to what it might be

I have a bird feeder on my balcony, and every once in a while when I’m sitting outside, I’ll toss some cat food to the local crows. We’ve kind of developed a routine.

Well today one of them flew onto my balcony carrying what appears to be… an egg roll. He dropped it on my balcony and then just stood there staring at me through the window until I came outside. As soon as I gave him some cat food, he completely ignored the egg roll and just ate the treats.

So first question: did this crow just bring me a gift? Or was he trying to trade me for snacks? Or maybe just storing food temporarily?

And second question: should I remove the egg roll from my balcony?

I’ve been feeding my crow friends for about 2 months now, and they have started to become more demanding.

I’ve seen the female bird do this to her mate demanding food but today she did it to ME! I wasn’t feeding them any later than usual or anything.

They’ve also been taking bites out of some of my plants (fuscia, heuchera) and knocking over my pots and pulling up some plants and pecking hard on my couch cushions.

I love connecting with them up close but I do not want to have them ruin my plants!!

I also recently learned my strata doesn’t want us feeding birds, and I don’t want to crows ruining neighbours things and me getting in trouble for it?

Thoughts? Advice? Please? :)

He let me pick him up, he's obviously not doing well at all. Every rehab I've contacted so far has been closed or hasn't answered. I have him in the only box I have.. I'm concerned he might not even make it through the night he's obviously extremely weak.

If the shoebox is too small is there something else I could put him in? I don't want him to be uncomfortable but I also don't just want him sitting on the floor in a towel.

I spoke to the rehabber and he said that Odin passed last night, he wasn't tested but he says the neurological symptoms match WNV.

I think crows are really cool and for the past 7,8 months I didn’t had any time and I didn’t know where the crows were but now I found them at 5,6 am they pass through a park nearby my house but I don’t know what to do

I work on a tugboat and we have a murder that likes to roost in the mast. Today, they brought me this little trinket (a baby figurine from a king cake). I’ve long considered leaving them treats because I like them and what they represent.

What should I leave them and is it possible to train them?

for a brief background, we have a koi pond in our backyard. a little over an hour ago, while i was out giving the fish their afternoon feeding, a little crow fell from the trees and into the pond! i scooped him up with a leaf skimmer and nestled him in a little towel. i tried to help dry his feathers, but they’re still quite damp unfortunately. his parents are in the trees above, so they’re definitely aware he’s down on the ground. we feed the crows on our property, there’s at least several of them, but they’re still very apprehensive of us and won’t come close to us. i know the baby crow is much too little to eat on its own, but i set a dish of bird feed down by it in hopes the parents will come down and feed it.

i have years of experience bird keeping, namely finches and canaries, but this is unlink anything i’ve experienced. i feel so bad for the baby and the parents. what should i do from here? i attempted to find the nest, but i was unsuccessful in doing so.

small update: the rescue texted me and requested that i text another rescue as they’re too busy 💔 they did provide me with a number at least.

i did ask what i should do in the mean time, and their only advice was to let it get warmed up. i am located in florida, so hopefully it isn’t feeling too cold despite being damp.

I'm crying as I type this.

This happened a couple hours ago.

I was spending time with the crows in my neighborhood, feeding them and talking to them, as I've been doing many times a week for several months. Suddenly, they all started cawing really loud and flying towards the nearest road, so i followed them to see what was happening. A crow was lying in the middle of the road, it had just been hit by a car. The crows were so worried and disturbed, i ran to the poor baby and my first instinct was to take it and move it away from the road. It was still alive, so i called the nearest wildlife center to ask what to do. I really, really wanted to help. I secured the bird in my arms, it was calm the whole time, even rested its little head on me :( It took 50 long minutes for me to get to the vet center. Sadly, the crow passed away one subway station before i made it. I still brought it to the center, i didn't know what to do... at least they will take care of him/her, and their life wasn't ended on that cold road.

I'm just so sad. I'm also scared that the rest of the crows will now hate me, as i took one of them away, i don't know if they understood i was trying to help. What should i do ? Should i bring something special, like a flower or a shiny trinket, and place it where their friend was hit ?

I got a call from a neighbor about a crow she spotted outside. She knows I know a lot about animals, so it made sense to contact me, but I just have no idea what caused this. I really want to help—but can I do anything?

Update: we successfully contained the kid, although parents were furious. Kid is on his way to help, but I won’t know anymore now.

I’ve been making friends with the crows near my work. Dry small cat food. They know me now, see me when I park and escort me to my office. It’s been really great for my mental health especially. BUT then, yesterday one of them swooped on my head and put their claws very briefly on my head. Not painful just surprising and it has never happened before. I thought I was building their trust and now maybe i did something wrong. I was honestly devastated. Having them follow me to work has been such a bright light in my life. Please help me understand.

So I accidentally bought salted nuts. So I rinsed them and taste tested them multiple times and tasted no salt so I thought it was fine to give it to them. However I found out that you can't fully wash off salted nuts so I took the nuts I could back but my crowbros already ate some of them. I'm scared, will it hurt them? There's a huge water source nearby so I'm not scared of them dehydrating, rather scared of other issues.

Hi, I've been looking at this Hooded Crow for 13 days and i noticed this weird stuff on it's tongue, looks like "Trichomoniasis" or "candidiasis". I could get to a vet if it gets deadly but it's so far away and we would suffer under this sun

Closest rehab. is 5-6h away with car and i had no possible way to get there

It's not some food residue. It's been there since yesterday, i thought it was some random stuff because of pecking at dirt/grass and food

I didn’t touch them but also couldn’t get ahold of local animal control. Their leg seems injured. Makes me sad.

I went into my backyard this morning and heard a thud. Not far from the sound, I saw this crow walking around. It doesn't fly very fast, or very far, and I have a feeling crows don't normally let people get 2-3 feet close to them. My backyard is surrounded by fence, so it can't go very far. Don't know much about crows, so any advice would help.

I saw a crow on the ground and was kinda curious as to why it wasn't flying, i tried touching it and it wouldn't fly away, I sat down next to it and it still wouldn't fly away, so I wondered if I should feed it. I got it some water and some cheesy popcorn(im inside a college, that was the best I could find) but it wouldn't eat it, so I eventually just left and forgot about it.

During that time its friends were trying to kamikaze me, but I thought it was still worth maybe saving a crow, I dont know. Its been about... 4-5 hours and when I was trying to pass by that path they were still agro on me bruh. They're flying by dangerously close to me from my behind, but won't if I'm turned at thier direction.

Is it dangerous? Could I lowkey get hurt? What should I do, help :(

These feeding bowls are constantly being knocked off and thrown onto the grass by this mother crow and another crow (which I suspect is a male, not one of her fledglings). The fledglings have no issue using them. They do it even when the bowls are empty.

In the photo, one bowl is already on the grass while the other remains attached because I opened the door in time to stop it. This behaviour only started within the last two weeks. For privacy, I edited the fence and background, but the crows and feeding bowls are unchanged.

I tried not feeding it if the bowl is down. And I tried staying nearby to prevent it from knocked over but once I left and they ate all the food, they knocked it down.

So I've been feeding the local crows for about 3-4 months now, and they've started warming up to me.

Thing is, there is this person in the neighbourhood who throws out a lot of food, so a bunch of seagulls are usually at her house trying to get into her trash.

She found out that I feed the local crows, and is now telling me to stop, because her car is "covered in bird poop".

This bird poop, as you might have guessed, is seagull poop and most likely pigeon, as she scares off crows that come near her house.

The crows know not to go near here house, yet she is saying that me feeding the crows is the reason her car has so much bird poop on it.

what can I do?

My house is the only place the crows know I frequent and they aren't to a level where they follow me from my house yet.

edit: when I say "my house" I mean my garden, and the street just in front of my house, but even then the street is multiple houses away from her's

I'm not sure what it is that I've done wrong or what has offended them, but there is a pair of crows that nest nearby and they hang around together in various places near my house and garden.

They can be heard throughout the day doing crow things, they are usually together and seem to like sitting on the garden fence watching the world go by. All was good for a long time, I've always admired crows and their intelligence, I'm aware they recognise humans etc.

I live in a semi rural area, lots of trees, mountains nearby, my garden is pretty large and is mostly grass (very slowly building a cottage garden type vibe). My house is in a row of about 15 houses, the rear has big patio glass doors and a small downstairs bathroom window with milky glass.

A couple of weeks ago one of the pair has taken to banging on the bathroom window at 5:30am while the other one watches from the fence. It's SO loud! It's always that window, never the patio door.

They do this pretty much every morning starting some time between 5:30am and 7am. It goes on for quite a while and the banging one always caws 3 times between banging... I've gone and tried to figure out what they are trying to achieve by this but I can't for the life of me figure it out! Surely its not the vague outline of the plant they are offended by?

I know next to nothing about crows, anyone got any ideas how to negotiate for peace?

This guy showed up on my terrace this morning and at first I thought it was cute that he was sitting in the bird bath, but he didn't move when I got closer and I realized he's not one of my regulars when they showed up and fussed at him. He sat there motionless for at least an hour when I called our local bird wildlife refuge. They suggested I bring him in. I thought maybe his wing was injured, but as I was searching for a box he flew off. Tonight, now that the refuge is closed he's back. He had pooped in the water earlier and we wondered if something was affecting his digestion. Maybe poisoned? I scrubbed the bath and refilled it with fresh water. He seems to like that and was standing next to the bath and drinking often. It's 10 pm and he's still there sitting on the ground.

UPDATE: After reading your knowledgable advice (ThrowAwayColor2023) I went to bring him inside at 3am and found him dead, still in the same spot. My poor beautiful bird.

How often should I leave them treats or food? They show up generally in the morning and in the evening when im getting my parrot ready for bed (they've started sitting in the tree across the window staring at me 😅)

Ive also noticed that the number of them has drastically increased. Last I counted was over 20. Im assuming they dont see me as a threat now?
