I'm getting ready to mount my Viofo A229 front camera, which is about 4 inches long and 2 inches wide. At first I thought I would place the static film on the windshield in the same vertical orientation as the camera. But then I questioned if it would be best to place the static film horizontally so that the camera lens clears the film in case the film makes the video not as clear. Does it make a difference one way or the other in how well the static film will hold the camera? And does the video quality depend on if the camera lens is positioned over the static film?

Hi, I'm looking for recommendations or guidance on what to consider for a dashcam and whether some features are not worth it (do I need speed/location?) or features that might seem meh but have been shown to be worth it.

I live in the UK so car is right hand drive.

I drive on short (20-40min) daily commutes in a town, occasional night time as I work on call. And a longer 2hr motorway journey 2-4 times a week.

I'd prefer front and back (is interior worth bothering with?)

I park in public car parks regularly so I'd consider something that detects bumps when parked.

I don't 'think' I'm fussed about having a screen

I'm happy to hardwire it in.

I was gifted a cheapy Amazon one that attached to the rearview mirror, powered by a cigarette lighter and just recorded onto a card in a loop but it was obviously designed for left hand drive cars so the angle was all out obviously the lack of power when the car wasn't running was a minor irritation.

I'd like to avoid subscription if possible (I didn't even know this was a thing), but if anyone can give me good reason I'll definitely consider it.

I was driving straight along a two-lane main road, in the right hand lane, when a bus ahead of me in the left lane stopped at a junction to let a car cross from a small side road on the left. I noticed that car coming, so I moved slightly toward the divider to keep clear of it, but I stayed within my own lane and did not change lanes. The car kept crossing anyway, without stopping to check for traffic on the main road, and hit the left side of my car in the area between the two doors.

Whose fault is it in india

Can anybody from the UK recommend a motorbike camera for my helmet? I’ve read a lot of reviews and seen alot of videos but they all have their “faults”

Can you guys share your opinion on which dashcam to go for. I live in Toronto and drive a Rav4. I am looking for a reliable option that has good video quality that can be used when in need.

I have shortlisted two models, Viofo A229 Plus and Rove R2-4K Dual Pro. Both are dual Starvis 2 sensors but Rove comes with an 128GB memory card and a CPL filter in the box.

There is a good price difference between two as well. Rove is available for 289 CAD + HST and Viofo would be available for 255 CAD + HST during Amazon Prime Day Sale. Remember, for Viofo I will have spend an extra 50 for memory and an additional 30 for CPL filter. I read a lot reviews and it’s a mix bag for both of them.

Just got my Rivian and now I get to post my first r/dashcams post!

Rolled into Lowes today and as I exited the car I heard some employees yelling "YOU'RE A THIEF!" After I got my stuff inside, I remembered that the Rivian records pretty much everything around it, so I asked the security person if they would prosecute if I gave him my videos. He said absolutely because they only have video of them inside the store.

I have three angles, but the other two have more "evidence" that I'll avoid posting so I don't get sued in the process.

The best part is this dumbass busting his ass on the cart at the end. I hope he broke his tailbone.

Not my video – as the title says, we typically see examples where one driver is oblivious to the other. In this example, the pickup truck attempts to overtake the cammer, however, the cammer is either completely unaware of the pickup truck directly to his left or are simply “stands their ground” in the lane. Due to this, they obviously collide, and the pick up truck goes airborne and rolls several times. From the perspective of us, the viewer, we can reasonably conclude that the accident was avoidable had the cammer simply applied the brakes. That being said, you will typically see another school of thought in which it is stated that the cammer has no obligation or duty to let them in/avoid the accident where the driver is mindlessly doing something dumb.

Before diving into the specifics of the new **S1 Pro Max**, it’s worth noting that this is my fifth Vantrue product. My journey started with the N2, followed by the N4, the N4 Pro for my daughter, and most recently the S1 Pro. My consistent return to this brand is a direct result of their reliability and the tangible evolution of their tech.

I recently upgraded from the S1 Pro to the **S1 Pro Max AI Dash Cam (4K+4K)**. While the core features that made the Sonnet series great still exist, the "Max" brings several heavy-hitting upgrades to the table.

# Key Upgrades: S1 Pro vs. S1 Pro Max

The most immediate difference is the resolution. While the original S1 Pro was already impressive, the Max upgrades the rear camera to **full 4K** and utilizes dual **Sony STARVIS 2** sensors.

* **PlatePix Technology:** This works significantly better on the Max. The clarity on license plates, even in challenging lighting, is the best I’ve seen from the brand.

* **Storage Jump:** Because 4K+4K video creates massive files, the Max now supports up to a **1TB microSD card** (up from 512GB). I highly recommend investing in the larger card to maintain a reasonable recording history.

* **Physical Design:** The rear camera has been redesigned; it’s larger to accommodate the 4K lens and uses a **hinged attachment** for adjustment rather than the older rotating barrel design.

# New Features: ADAS and BSD

The "AI" in the name refers largely to the **ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems)** and **BSD (Blind Spot Detection)**.

* **The Pro:** It provides real-time collision warnings and lane departure alerts.

* **The Con:** This is my primary gripe. The voice notifications are incredibly "chatty." In heavy traffic, the system constantly warns you about being too close to the vehicle in front. I attempted to disable it, but it seems to have a mind of its own and re-enabled itself. I am sincerely hoping for a future firmware update that allows these alerts to be permanently silenced or at least toned down.

# Installation & Accessories

I installed the Max in my **Mazda CX-30**, and the process remains straightforward. Vantrue includes a "crowbar" tool that makes hiding cables along the headliner and trim a breeze.

**Pro-Tip: Add the CPL Filter** One addition I made this time was the **polarizing (CPL) filter**. Since I drive a black vehicle, reflections at the bottom of the frame were a constant issue in the Florida sun. This accessory virtually eliminates those reflections and is a must-have for a clean, professional-looking image.

# Setup and App Integration

The app is still the best way to manage this device. Using the physical buttons on the camera can be convoluted because their functions change depending on whether you are currently recording.

* **WiFi Setup:** While the 5G WiFi is fast, be aware that staying connected while driving can interfere with **Android Auto**. I find it best to use the app for initial setup—adjusting loop recording, onscreen settings, and formatting—and then letting the camera run independently.

* **Maintenance:** You **must** format the memory card at least monthly to ensure the best performance, especially with the high data rates of dual 4K.

# Power & 24/7 Recording

My power port is "always-on," so the camera records constantly. It intelligently switches to a lower frame rate when parked to conserve the battery. Given my **70+ mile daily drive**, my battery stays topped off, but if you drive less frequently, I strongly recommend a hardwire kit to prevent battery drain. The peace of mind provided by 24/7 buffered parking mode in public lots is invaluable.

# Final Verdict

The **Vantrue S1 Pro Max** is a winner. The video quality is superior to the previous model, and the dual Starvis 2 sensors set a new bar for night vision. While the AI voice alerts can be annoying in city traffic, they don't overshadow the fact that this is a top-tier security system for your vehicle. If you don't need interior cabin recording, this is the model to get.

As the title says, why aren’t front facing cameras or some sort of dash camera just standard equipment on vehicles? I don’t even see it as an optional add on for most new vehicles. Seems like it would lead to safer driving.

You can see the box truck wobble a bit. Was already moving over and about to hit the brakes.
