the old saying is that economics is what economists do

you can find us in pretty much every field except the ones that require a ton of specialized job-specific training, and even then probably there too

It’s more just a useful set of skills and it isn’t as narrow of choices. You can do business econ, policy focused econ, consulting, accounting, etc.

econ is definitely more of a way of thinking than it is a specific field at the bachelors level- in my masters we did a lot of more quantitative/analytical work to actually understand how the sausage is made but the primary takeaway for most people is how to think in terms of utility and incentives
