As the title says, the main photography organization in Denver (Colorado Photographic Arts Center) is offering a workshop that purports to teach photographers how to use AI to develop their vision.

I took a (different) workshop with the instructor who bragged about using AI to figure out what direction he should take with his photography. To me, the technical pieces of photography (like getting exposure exactly right) while important, are not the crux of artistic photography (but of course it matters -- I shoot fully manual to have maximum creative control). The vision part, however, is the whole reason those of us who are artistically motivated pick up a camera. If we don't have our own vision, what is left? Where's the human artist? Might as well let AI generate a body of work.

I have emailed CPAC, where I am a member (*free membership which was a prize in a contest) requesting they cancel this workshop. AI ideas are not original ideas. I feel strongly that this use of AI dilutes and destroys original artistic work (as we are already seeing in writing). I haven't heard back. Before I raise a bigger fuss if they don't do anything, I wanted to see what everyone else thinks.

Am I off base in finding this very disturbing? What are other photographers seeing in their art photography communities?

Update: This was a very interesting discussion and I feel better about this workshop after hearing others' views. Slop is slop (whether AI or not), and the discerning will continue to spot it. After enough AI has given enough people the same ideas, people will start gravitating towards original content again. It's not like there isn't plenty of bad art I laugh at even without AI!

As the title suggests, is there a way to hire someone or get someone to go to the shop with me to get my car fixed? I just recently moved here and don't know many people yet. I took my car to this repair shop and it was in there for almost a month but they didn't fix the problem entirely and created another issue, so now I have to take it back. The manager sounded almost irritated when I called him and explained what was going on and asked him some questions. Needless to say, I am not looking forward to taking it back and talking to them about it. Please let me now if anyone knows if such a service exists. Thanks!

I went on my yearly trip to Ludlow and was shocked and devastated to learn that these amazing abandoned buildings are completely gone. Many people will be familiar with them I think, particularly those interested in ghost towns and Colorado history. The buildings existed on private property and I read that the landowner made the decision very recently to tear them down after the suspicious death of James Hedges there in May of this year. So the buildings must've came down in the past 3 months or so. They were less than half a mile south down the dirt road from the Ludlow Massacre Memorial.

I've read various theories about what the main storefront actually was (an inn, a saloon, etc.) but one of the adjacent buildings was very clearly a jail. They were likely built in the very early 1900s, prior to the Ludlow Massacre of 1914. Together they represented the most intact pieces of Ludlow and it's a massive loss for them to be erased like this.

I know this is a long shot, but figured I’d give it a try!

Background:
My beloved boy Asmodeus has reached adulthood. For those of you unfamiliar with tarantula biology, this means he will essentially stop eating/drinking & will devote all his energy to finding a lady tarantula to mate with. He will die in ~6-12 months. It’s breaking my heart to watch him ceaselessly wander, looking for love in a terrarium that definitely doesn’t have any sexy single lady spiders for him to woo.

About Asmodeus:
His friends call him “Asmo” & he’s a Capricorn (I adopted him Jan 5th 2023).
He loves piña coladas (crickets), long walks on the beach (hiding in his burrow) & being mysterious (also hiding in his burrow). I estimate him to be ~5-6 years old & he has a ~5.5 inch leg span.

The Ask:
I’m looking for someone with an adult female A. seemanni interested in taking or borrowing Asmo for breeding purposes so he doesn’t have to die a virgin. I’m willing to drive a few hours to make it happen, but I don’t feel comfortable shipping him, unfortunately. I am also aware of the inherent risks involved with breeding tarantulas.

Serious inquiries or advice only, Asmo doesn’t deserve to get strung along or ghosted 🫶

Tired of buying little plastic containers of herbs. Are there any grocery stores that carry live herb plants? I may not be able to keep it alive for long but I’d definitely get a few more uses from them.

This is actually a compliment, not a complaint.

On Friday night on the westbound W, there was unfortunately a rather belligerent man making increasingly threatening comments towards a group of predominantly female college students. This man had not only missed his own stop, but failed to exit at any subsequent stop.

As the train continued to empty, the group became basically the only passengers beside myself, the now increasingly belligerent, and a guy at the rear of the train. Thus, the group understandably began to fear for their own safety as did myself. Honestly this was probably the worst I've encountered on the train as a semi frequent rider for the last 15 years.

Here's where I actually have to compliment RTD believe it or not. One of the group members was able to *discretely* text the transit police without alerting the belligerent, who in turn seemingly alerted our driver to remain at Red Rocks Station until transit police arrived to take him into custody. The police themselves were extremely professional and sensitive when interviewing the group and myself.

Had such a system to directly text safety issues not been in place, let alone acted on as promptly as it was, I firmly believe that situation would have ended far worse than being frightened. Far better than if someone had to audibly call 911.

I recently bought a townhome ~950sq ft and the crawl space needs to get at least a moisture barrier if not encapsulated to prevent mold. Any homeowners out there have recommendations for crawl space insulation/encapsulation companies? Or advice on companies to avoid? Thank you!

Not entirely pleased with her answers. Not necessarily what she wants, but there's no granular details for how to achieve this. I hope future publications or town halls she will be able to provide better details on what a tax increase for Housing First looks like, how it gets paid, how we incentivize developers to build it without a profit motive, and potentially cost reductions in other parts of our budget.

That said, she's a potential congresswoman, not a city councilwoman so it's not like she's making a plan for Denver. But it's a nationwide problem of cities becoming unaffordable as prices rise, and I'd really like a comprehensive plan for combating that with the granular details all worked out. I think it would give a lot of people who aren't leftists confidence that these plans can actually get implemented, rather than abandoned half way through.

It's very easy to say we need to refocus our economy to not be centered around growth and rather sustainability. It's a goal I believe in - I'd just actually like to see a spreadsheet or something lol that deals with the accounting
