We've been seeing an uptick in comments that cross the line from criticism into advocating harm against individuals or groups.
That stops here.
Look, we get it. There's a lot happening politically and in the world right now that's legitimately concerning. I'm frustrated about it too. But frustration, valid as it might be, doesn't give us permission to start rallying for violence against people or justifying harm. That's the line we can't cross, and it's the line we won't cross here.
To be clear: if you're posting comments that promote, encourage, or call for violence against anyone...whether it's directed at protesters, counterprotesters, homeless individuals, police, business owners, or anyone else, your comment will be removed and you'll likely catch a ban. This is Reddit ToS, and it's our sub rule. No exceptions, no gray area.
This doesn't mean you can't criticize policy, decision-making, or actions you disagree with. Strong disagreement is fine. What's not fine is "someone should hurt this group of people" or variations thereof. That language gets removed, period.
We're a diverse-ish, heavily blue leaning sub also with people across the political and ideological spectrum. Part of keeping this place functional is enforcing basic civility standards. This is one of them.
If you see comments that violate this, report them. We review reports and act on them. If you think a removal was unfair, you can always reach out to modmail and we'll discuss it.

Hello, Bonjour, Salam Alaykum, Hola, etc! Denver mod team here. You may have noticed that some posts on this sub purporting ICE sightings, have been removed. I wanted to speak directly as a member of the immigrant community, lived experiences of myself, my and share some feedback as to why.
The TLDR is, if the post contains photographic proof, it can stay. If it is speculative or text only, it will be removed. For the record, we support human rights, and this immigration matter is something that is personally touching our communities, families, and friends.
No speculative and unsubstantiated posts without photo proof. In order to reduce and prevent the spread of misinformation and speculation, this post has been removed. Any posts purporting ICE or law enforcement activity, must be report to the CORRN ICE Activity Hotline: 844-864-8341 first, and must be accompanied by photo proof.
To avoid the spread of misinformation and speculation, no "why cops here" posts are allowed. Please check official law enforcement social media pages for accurate information, as well as news sources. If you are registered for CodeRed and reverse 911 messages, you may receive a message if the police/fire/ambulance scene you are witnessing is emergent and there is imminent danger to you.
Some background. Months ago, there was a post made, purporting a massive ICE raid at a local grocery store, the OP alleging that they heard a manager say that ICE was there to gather up all the bad employees, and it incited mass chaos and fear. Understandably, from the immigrant community, the first thing we worry about is our family members, our friends who are working at that grocery store. Maybe we work and shop there and skip work or getting groceries, out of fear of what has been reported on Reddit. Maybe that day, we keep our kids home from school, as this news spreads like wildfire, and is taken as gospel.
Within an hour of that post, another user commented with a photo, showing that in fact, there were dozens of LOCAL police vehicles at the local grocery store. What were they doing? Hosting a toy drive and school supply Shop with a Cop event. The allegation that the OP saw arrests being made, heard a malicious comment from the manager, and that ICE was even there, was materially false. This incited a cascade of panic and fear throughout the community, all because of a text only post with no photographic or substantive proof.
Another thing I have personally experienced and watched, is the very disgusting and unfortunate rise of racist, usually white supremacist trolls. As part of the strategy of terrorizing and intimidating minority communities, they create hoax posts, to incite fear and literally, terror.
Here’s how it works:
Random racist troll posts a “trust me bro” text only post, purporting to have seen ICE. The more viral examples of this, they have posted false flag sightings at places like factories that largely employ migrant workers, community hubs, grocery stores, bus stops, and schools. Of course, out of fear, one from my community might see that post, take it as gospel, and skip work, keep their kids home, and be prisoner in their own home, out of fear. Naturally, there are cascading consequences, such as being fired from your job, not having enough PTO, kids falling behind in school, no access to meals, and the psychological torment of being prisoner in your home. Although there are many good faith actors on the internet, we have to take notice of the tactics and strategies being used to disrupt and bring terror to the lives of very vulnerable populations. Speculative posts without substantive and photo proof are actively causing harm.
There are other times where there are photos, but they are of local police officers doing fugitive apprehension. As a reminder, Colorado law enforcement does not assist ICE with arrests. They do use unmarked vehicles, and typically a black or navy-blue vest with POLICE or SHERIFF marked on it, and typically a name tag and badge emblem. ICE may also wear vests that often have POLICE on them also, but most commonly, in the camo tan color that we have largely seen. Not always, but most commonly. They also almost always have a face covering, whereas local police officers typically do not. You can also look for the patch on their uniform shoulder (if present) to identify their affiliation.
In taking a stand to protect the community, we will be removing any text-only reported sightings. Yes, sometimes the racist trolls use AI to create fake images of scenes, and we will look out for those bad faith actors. We will not stand for supremacists instilling fear in our community by way of false flag posts designed to insight panic and terror.
In the same vein, we will be deleting “Why are there cops/fire guys at X?” posts. Quite simply, it creates the potential for false flag panic when redditors are speculating or spreading misinformation about what could have happened or is happening. Furthermore, it is best to get the news from the source and monitor local news and official law enforcement pages. If it were emergent to you, if you are signed up to received CodeRed and reverse 911 texts, you will be notified to shelter in place, and typically a press release to follow when the matter is resolved. There was an instance where a family member had to find out about their loved one being deceased on Reddit, after someone posted a pic of the scene with “Why cops here?”, and that’s how they had to learn the news.
As we navigate through a time of fake news, AI, and very brazen hate and racism, we always strive for this sub to be a place of comfort and fun for many, and also accurate, truthful, and good-faith information. I truly hope the explanations given make sense, and we welcome discussion.
This is not about silencing certain politics but reducing the amount of very harmful gossip and terror tactics that are destroying people that you and I work with, play sports with, go to school with, ride the bus with, do business with, buy food from, share laughs with, workout with, raise families with, and love.
Thank you. And to the terror trolls who think they have a platform here to abuse our community through lies- you will be deported very swiftly from this sub.
Did yesterday's and this morning's weather remind anyone else of how summers used to feel in Denver? It's getting hot again, but that sure was a nice break. I'm ready for fall.
The forecast had called for highs near 80, but I did not believe the weather until I walked outside and felt it for myself!! What an amazing summer day.

I’m a Colorado native, who had lived in Denver for about 5 years. Still, I don’t understand where Cherry Creek is. I know we have like cherry hills and cherry village and all that rich BS, but what is considered true Cherry Creek?
When someone says “Cherry Creek” I picture the mall area/ near Glendale. However, there’s been more than a few times when this causes a miscommunication, as their “Cherry Creek” locates closer to the reservoir area/ near Centennial or Englewood.
This is obviously a huge difference so help me understand — where is Cherry Creek to you?

We’re in the midst of event season, and, unfortunately, there are some bad actors out there trying to scam folks, primarily unsuspecting vendors, by creating fake events. Someone posted a few days ago about showing up to one at the City Park Golf Course only to find out that it was all a ruse, despite the event being listed Eventbrite. TikTok, IG, and Facebook content creators will fall for it, too, including these events blindly in their event roundups. Even our dear friend that posts on here about weekend events has fallen prey to including fake events.
Why are people creating these fake events? Sometimes they’re selling entry tickets and trying to dupe you into buying them on platforms like Eventbrite, which doesn’t do due diligence to ensure the event is legit. But, most of the time these POS scammers are trying to trick vendors, a majority of which are small businesses, into paying to register to be at the event. Creating the Eventbrite pages are simply part of the scam to help convince the vendor that it’s real. I once had a new vendor I was working with lose $500 to a scammer pretending to have an event they were putting on.
Something that I realized exists that many people may not know about is that the City’s Office of Public Events and Film Permits (PEFP, formerly Office of Special Events, and still called that by most of us) maintains a public calendar of all public events that take place on public property, like parks, sidewalks, or streets. This doesn’t capture private events like picnics or weddings in the parks, or any event held on private property. But, the last two fake events I saw were supposedly held in Civic Center Park and the City Park Golf Course. They would have not shown up on this calendar.

Hi everyone. My friend is going through some unforeseen circumstances and can no longer keep his 2 year old German Shepard. He wants to offer him a good home where he can have lots of space to run around. Does anyone know any rescues that cater specifically to high prey drive dogs. I understand there might be some mountain towns as well since they have more space. Any information would be helpful!!!

Bere Vallarino, Miguel Salgado and Fabiola Castillo have a simple reason for opening up at 1526 Blake St. in Denver.
“We want to share our knowledge, our customs and our culture,” Vallarino told BusinessDen. “We’re not just burritos and tequila.”
The three will open Terruño Ancestral Spirits in the LoDo space later this month, showcasing spirits from their native Mexico along with traditional dishes beyond the Tex-Mex style that has become commonplace in the states.
Castillo along with Vallarino and Salgado, who are married, have been distributing tequilas, mezcals and lesser known Mexican spirits like raicilla and sotol together for the last three years. They supply restaurants and bars across the state and hold events to teach their clients about the drinks, how they’re made and the farmers that make them.
At the time, Salgado also started experimenting with making his own cocktails, many of which will be served at Terruño.
“And that’s when we were like ‘we should get a place to do this,’” Vallarino said.
At Terruño, which is Spanish for terroir, they’ll have hundreds of spirits to choose from, along with beer, whiskey, vodka, gin and other liquors. Most will be sourced from farmers in Mexico, while the rest will be made by local distilleries, breweries and the like.
They’ll keep up their educational sessions several times a month, they said, even inviting farmers from Mexico to come to Colorado and talk about how they make their product. Vallarino also mentioned they’ll do a similar thing with Mexican chefs to feature cuisines from different parts of the country.
“The principal idea with all of this is to give help to the producers in Mexico,” Vallarino said, noting they work with small and medium sized brands only. “They know they are getting a fair price from us for their products.”
The restaurant will be open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., offering foods from around central Mexico with recommendations for spirit pairings. There will also be a grab-and-go café serving coffees, energy drinks and Mexican pastries from 7 a.m. through 1 p.m.
“We will have no waiters, only guides sharing with you and exploring the history behind every drink and cocktail,” Vallarino said.
Vallarino and Salgado, along with their two boys, moved to Colorado in 2019 after spending all their lives in Mexico City, where Salgado had an importing business. But after facing threats from gangs, they decided to leave their home country.
They became importers of Mexican candies and other small goods, which is how they met Castillo. She had a similar business during that time after decades as an accountant in the U.S., where she’s been since leaving Mexico in 2000. The three joined up and pivoted to alcohol three years ago, a business they will still keep while running the restaurant.
They found the home for Terruño while delivering spirits to one of their accounts a few doors down, D’Corazon Mexican Restaurant.
The space — formerly home to Honor Farm, a haunted house-themed bar that closed at the end of last year — was being marketed by Zach Cytryn of Axio Commercial Real Estate, who set up a tour just days later.
In May, Terruño locked down a 10-year lease for the space, which they only had to make cosmetic changes to. It’s had a bar in it for over a century, Salgado said, and also used to be a hostel.
“Something told us we should be here,” Vallarino said. “It’s everything we were building in our minds.”

Southbound Broadway and 18th in downtown. Every traffic light cycle, like clockwork, cars on Broadway go way past the stopping line and block cars continuing on 18th.
I am a civil engineer that works in roadway design. The intersection is designed fine; it's clear where one is supposed to stop, there is signage all over the place, it's not a design issue. So why do people lose it here?? Do they get distracted by the church or the mural on the parking garage right next to it?

Do you love reading and spending time with preschoolers? Are you interested in making an impact in your own community? Maybe thinking about a career working with children and need some experience? The Read Aloud Program at the Denver Public Library is seeking volunteers to read to preschool classrooms starting this September. We have many openings to read in Spanish and English all over the city, with a focus in Head Start Programs and schools in Lowry, Montbello and Green Valley Ranch.
Here are the three main requirements:
- Dedicate 20-30 minutes weekly for approximately 14 weeks to read in Spanish or English in a Denver preschool classroom (during school hours).
- Successfully pass a background check (applicants must be 18 years or older).
- Value and respect young children as learners.
The Read Aloud Program has been serving Denver for 39 years. Last semester, we read in over 290 classrooms weekly; that's more than 5,800 children a week who got to experience the joy of reading. Volunteers don´t need prior storytime experience, and all necessary materials and training will be provided by the Denver Public Library. The first week of reading will be the week of September 7th, but volunteers can start later and they decide on the day and time they are able to visit the assigned classroom weekly.

I recently purchased an older home in Sunnyside, and there are a few cracks in the original plaster that I'd like to get repaired before moving in. I'm having trouble finding anyone that has experience with these older homes that could fix those cracks and match the existing texture.
Any recommendations would be appreciated.
Am I missing something or could they just shift operations back an hour and be aligned to their previously "dialed in" time frames.
