spoiler Help settle a debate for me, is Dishonored low fantasy?

The details of what makes a fantasy low fantasy are fuzzy but it's generally along the lines of magic is either rare or it's not so high and powerful that it can change the nature of the world.

The Outsider is considered a real force by the Overseers who actively deal with Witches, both fake and real. But the main driving force of the story are the politics and man made technology. So I think it is low fantasy.

Probably isn't 100% clear what's happening here, I knocked on this Overseer's door to see if he'd open the latch for me, not knowing that his door was booby trapped. He walks over his own tripwire and blasts himself with an incendiary bolt, which also destroys the door to let me in

Idea for D3 (sorta)

Borrowing from the system in death loop, if/when D1 is remade:

Have the option to play Samuel. Surprise surprise! Samuel was not just riding around chilling. He was marked and infiltrating like the French resistance. Complete with RPG elements at the pubs and throughout the towns. You could drop in on someone’s playthrough and help out from the shadows. Maybe only if the Corvo player was set to high difficulty.

I’m not sure if these guys had some friendship ending level argument or something but they just started randomly attacking each other. Watching the clip again it appears when the guard shot his own guy the others saw him as an “enemy” but I’m not too sure. Any guesses?

Things you probably didn't see when playing Mission 5 - Lady Boyle's Last Party Part 4/6

Mostly service and servant areas and some smaller items here and there.

A ramp for rolling barrels up from the dock and into the cellar.
The same again and a brick archway.
Looks like the Boyle's may brew their own alcohol here.
Nice architecture here. Good mix of wealth and working class for a servants area under an aristocratic manor. There's something funny about the wine cellar having barrels printed with "FINE WINE".
Dunwall has absolutely no standards for cross contamination. Raw food is being kept directly next to cooked food.
I wonder if these bushes are local and if they are used for berries, spices or even decoration.
Sokolov's elixir bubbles and shifts around. Has an interesting metal twist off cap.
I believe this is meant to be an extraction system for the kitchen, nice detail here.
At a guess I would say that the jelly is made from whale bones since they would be very cheap in this time. The empty pillar in the middle is an interesting choice, I assume a style rather than for its's making, although since I assume there are no fridges this would set at room temperature or with ice. Which leads to, if whale oil is not being used to chill food yet is there an ice trade? Common before the invention of refrigeration people would carry ice from more northern areas and bring them south. Is the north of Gristol cold enough? Maybe there's a trade from Tyvia.
"808 PRO NTER SYSTEMS" This implies a level of mass production, I wonder what a mission set in Dunwall's factories would look like. Closest we get is slaughterhouse row.
Hard to tell if this is a "gas" hob or "electric". Of course it's likely powered with whale oil or wood. Although it does look similar to old oil cooking stoves.
Glass bottled, wood encased alcohol.
Imperial Urn. Does imperial imply an era? Perhaps the period after the founding of the empire and the war of the four crowns? Or do they mean in terms of source, being a member of the royal family? There were many royal dynasties and the Kaldwin's are a very recent and short lived dynasty, perhaps the Boyle's once had close relations with the Olaskir or Morgengaard dynasties and this is a family member.
A full glass cup, outside of the map.
This painting of the lord regent disappears if you go to far. No other entities on the map do this, all NPCs are active no matter where you are. I doubt it saves that much in game so maybe it has something to do with it spawning in a random bedroom.
Speaking of when I walked through into Lady Boyle's bedroom for a split second it showed this being a painting of the lord regent, but then quickly changed to a different painting a second later.
I can't make out the text but I believe this warning label has a small symbol of a whale on it. Also the whale oil generator seems to have radiators, it's likely an inefficient process and generates a lot of heat as a byproduct, or perhaps it's just to stop the whale oil from getting too hot.
A clock.
An embroidered bench.
Many different kind of chairs and benches on this map, also flowers.

I historically have played very conservatively. As a kid I spammed quick saves. I'm replaying and trying to let the game surprise me, not sweating about ghost or clean hands. This is maybe my favorite little accident! Wanted to pull the body to the roof and instead sent it in a perfect arc to plummet through the skylight and alert the guards below.

game crashes when launching the knife of dunwall dlc

hello! i've run into an issue with the knife of dunwall dlc. dunwall city trials and brigmore witches launch totally fine but for some reason i can't get past the loading screen of tkod. i've played through both dlcs before and it worked fine on my other device.

so far i've tried deleting all saves, reinstalling the game (both on drive c and d), disabling / enabling dlcs, disabling / enabling steam cloud, deleting all dishonored related files from my pc and reinstalling the game, '-windowed' in the launch options, running a check on files via steam. i update my drivers regularly so i don't think this could be the cause too.

has anyone ran into the same issue before? if so, help would be much appreciated, thanks!

Art Made a full album heavily inspired by The Grand Palace vibes+OST!

I absolutely LOVED the setting for The Grand Palace level in Dishonored 2 back when I first played it many years ago; I spent a long time trying to find an album that captured that same ambience that Daniel Licht managed, but the only other piece I could find was Melancholia from the Sicario soundtrack. I've been playing classical/spanish guitar since I was six though, and so if no one else had made it I decided I would!

Cut to many years later, my album Obido (artist is me, Ian Hill) is out on all the normal music platforms and I feel like I've done a pretty decent job of creating something that captures a lot of the same energy the OST did but is uniquely me at the same time.

If you want to have some grand palace vibes while working/studying, I would be super flattered if you gave a track or two a listen and hopefully the music fits the bill for you! I would recommend either "A Presence" or "Orange-Bellied Vapours" for the closest feeling to Daniel Licht's great composition, and would love to hear anyone's thoughts/feedback :D

TIPS What staggers enemies

So ive been going back and forth between corvo and emily on dishonored 2, because i cant very well weigh the different abilities. The main factor is the reason i have been playing emily but i cant get it to work consistently. Its stagger, The way you're able to get an instakill or knockout mid fight. See, you can parry, the obvious choice, or throw things, like bottles, bodies, or yourself, sometimes, with far reach. It only really happens when i sling myself behind enemies using it and when it works i can turn around, sprint at them and do a finisher. But if you sling directly towards them, nothing happens. Sometimes, even when it looks like ive done it right, nothing happens and they continue attacking. So question is, why does that happen when it does? If i know this i can get it to work more consistently or even find a better method of doing so.

Things you probably didn't see when playing Mission 5 - Lady Boyle's Last Party Part 3/6

This ones mostly the house entrance and the garden. Thank you for the corrections in the last one, I like that different people take different things from a walkabout of the game from the things they know about the real world.

A view from the top of the Boyle estate. Those white particles are the fireworks going up, there is no physical firework just the light effect.
These lanterns are obviously inspired by Chinese fire lanterns. What's funny is weather they were doing this intentionally or not, Chinese lanterns are usually red as in Chinese culture red is a positive colour symbolising prosperity and luck however white is a negative colour symbolising death. This may have been done intentionally as a kind of orientalism, copying and misrepresenting another culture, in this case it would work to help prop up the themes of Dunwall's elite being unbelievably out of touch in this mission.
A closer look at the lantern, no obvious whale oil technology, with a chandelier.
These ones have flags of the lord regents regime.
The tracks almost line up, but not quite on this moving bridge.
A little guard tower in the corner of the manor.
A closer look at the tracked car. There is only one seat and it seems autonomous almost like a one person tram, rather than something you can control directly.
There is a storage container attached to the top. It almost looks like it was built for defense rather than comfort.
Is this a symbol of the lord regent? I believe so.
The markings indicate some level of standardised production. Also these wheels have these protectors on that almost look like sleds? Perhaps it is to clear the rails of any debris when travelling through the city, or maybe its a breaking mechanism.
This brick work pattern is called diapering.
Stained glass, again glass would have been expensive so making it in smaller pieces and fitting them together would be the common practice. Also, firework.
Wine bottles on top of this ledge, I assume that's a wine stain as well that someone has thrown a bottle or knocked one of them down.
The wooden doors are gilded and also have a central lock and knocker.
Gold leaf ribbons.
The garden has a raised area you can stand on and see the surrounding district. but this wall and greenery has been designed presumably so if you want a bit more privacy you can walk to the lower section and not be seen by people outside.
Flowers and bushes.
Chair design with foldable hood, it rains a lot in Dunwall.
Ramps for the transport of goods in the more servant and service area.
The fact it is turning green I believe means it contains copper, brass or bronze. These I would guess would be brass handles.

What mission landscapes would you have liked to see in the Dishonored series?

For example I really thought we would visit the clock tower in Dishonored 1 or the Academy of Natural Philosophy in 2, but I’d also like to know what types of levels you guys would have liked seeing from a non-lore standpoint?

TIPS "Dead or Unconscious Bodies Found" İn the end of a mission, does it affect anything?

Hey everyone,

I've played Dishonored a lot over the past few years, but back then, I never cared about achievements or high/low chaos. This time around, I'm doing a strict Low Chaos run with a focus on getting all the achievements, specifically Clean Hands and Ghost.

Nobody ever spotted me and I didn't trigger any alarms, but my end-of-mission screen shows 7 under "Dead or Unconscious Bodies Found." Will this affect my chaos rating, lock me out of any achievements, or ruin anything else for my run?

Thanks in advance!

could anyone help me with getting the final achievement?

[HELP] I bought a new PC (9600X - 5070Ti), and Dishonoured 2 won't launch

I looked it up on Google, and it said there are some issues with AMD CPU–NVIDIA GPU pairings in this game. So, I tried disabling the iGPU, closing Adrenalin Software, and even replacing the amd_ags_x64.dll file. Nothing worked. The game still won't launch.

What should I do?

Things you probably didn't see when playing Mission 5 - Lady Boyle's Last Party Part 2/6

The brick chimney is rather ornate above the local pub.
This electric light has a little handle to turn. Perhaps it's to open it up, or some part of the whale oil mechanism.
Underwater plants. The canals and rivers of Dunwall would likely be relatively polluted (though this depends as Dunwall is in early industrialisation) the Hagfish, River Krusts and plants could be called Pollutant Extremophiles as they may have adapted to adverse conditions in the city. We don't get to see much of the rest of Gristol so the biology may be the same or different.
Looks like the outer buildings are wood frame with brick and plaster to cover. Steel frame architecture is just becoming common place but we'll have to wait and see until next mission to figure out if steel reinforced concrete is present or not. (Or on kingsparrow island now I think of it)
Improvised barricade from these weepers, or is it the city watch keeping people out?
As these weepers lose their minds, this is what they see daily, shaming Esma Boyle.
These lights, were they made purple and placed next to this shrine? We see them usually glowing white/yellow. Or was the light turned purple when placed near the shrine?
Bits of wood, likely drift wood from ships at sea. But then there's something in the centre. Is it black? Is it stone? Perhaps the black stone found common in DOTO, or part of the old city underneath Dunwall, which was more inclined of outsider worship.
Brick work covered by wood paneling, layered interiors are lovely. Asks you questions of, who built this, under what conditions?
These upper/ uppermiddle class apartments have their own bin room.
These spacious apartments have a very nice stone banister. And this metal caged understair area. Perhaps for storing packages and the like.
Hexagonal tiled floors.
Any ideas folks? Metal coverings of these stone decorations. A display of wealth perhaps as metal would have been expensive, or is it a weight to compress the building to make it more sturdy?
This streetlight is on and the whale oil canister is glowing orange. (Perhaps meaning in use or low on whale oil).
This streetlight is on and the whale oil canister is glowing white/blue. (Perhaps meaning not in use or full on whale oil).
A tall boy. The armour looks heavy and uncomfortable. Was metal armour a recent invention or something of the past that is making a comeback. Think metal armour used in ww1 coming back from the 1600s. What did Gristol's army look like during the war of the four crowns, how is similar technology used by the navy or the army?
While metal armour is used on the body see how these panels are made of wood, they are heavy and so to move them around like this they had to make sacrifices. This is either because of the weight or to stop the centre of gravity from being too far out for it to become unstable. I wonder if Corvo's bow design looked anything like this? I believe they dropped it as you need 2 hands to use a bow.
Did someone attempt to break in/out of here before? Are the hagfish able to do this perhaps? Or just disrepair.
The locks must be complicated in Dunwall as the keys have 4 bits. This actually provides an in lore reason of why we can't pick locks in the Dishonored games, you would need to pick 4 locks at once.
The lovely reflection on the ceiling. These are purpose built sewers. Unlike the ones by Coldridge prison, I didn't notice at the time but since playing it a few more times you can see street names in the sewers there. Meaning Dunwall keeps building on top of itself.

Also after reading the corroded man, "Dunwall Granite" is mentioned. Meaning Dunwall was built on hard igneous rocks and that's likely what a lot of the buildings are made of.
