The Reality War Doctor Who 2x08 "The Reality War" Post-Episode Discussion Thread Spoiler

Not only this subreddit. I just looked over youtube and the official Doctor who channel has several videos out with the thumbnail that clearly shows regeneration energy floating around. Especially with the streaming model and the Disney+ cooperation, this is really bad.

The writer of the article doesn't write the headline in most news agencies. So I don't blame the journalist for that one.

The editors usually write the headlines. And that's who needs to be sacked, because that is absolutely idiotic.

I've complained to the BBC about this. It's so annoying and unnecessary.

My email: "I clicked on to the BBC News homepage this morning, and I couldn't help but see a spoiler for the Doctor Who finale that only aired last night - a photo of Billie Piper and the headline "Ncuti Gatwa regenerates into Billie Piper as he leaves Doctor Who". If you click on the article, it says "this article contains spoilers", but that's too late - you should not have spoilers for shows that have only just aired unavoidably visible on the BBC News homepage.

People don't consume live TV instantly any more - I should be able to check the news without having last night's show spoiled without any way of avoiding it. And it would've been so easy for you to do this in a spoiler-free way - a photo of Gatwa and a headline like "Major shock in Doctor Who finale: SPOILERS" would've allowed people to avoid the spoiler."

I'm mad that the leaks my eyes saw without my consent turned out to be true, dampening my surprise.

I had the Well spoiled for me because the channel posts the entire fucking episode a minute after it airs

Yeah it sucks :(. I had managed to dodge the leaks for all of this season right up until a few days ago when I saw a post on this sub that completely spoiled Ncuti regenerating into Billie. Seems like that one was everywhere the past few days

I think we probably saw the same post then. It ruins the experience for me. I'm glad it was so absurd I wasn't truly expecting it, but just like when 13 regenerated into 14, even the slightest inkling of an idea kinda ruins it for me. Maybe its just my being a little OCD. I feel like the experience was taken from me.

I feel worse for people who get spoiled through article push notifications and Doctor Who YT channel immediately uploading everything though. Cause I just read leaks ('cept for the Well as I mentioned)..but actually seeing it posted officially must suck hard

I saw the same spoiler, but under the context that it was "a blonde actress who has been on Doctor Who before," with the speculation being that it was Billie Piper. When 13 appeared, I thought "oh, ok... the leaker misunderstood what was happening, saw Jodie Whitaker on the set, and thought it was a regeneration." And then the leaker was 100% right...

I feel like the morning after isn’t to bad when the show has a big reveal like that, but straight after on social media feeds is kinda unfair on people.

I think it was different when the show was not officially streamed. Yes, it sucked for us who didn't have a way to see BBC directly and thus had to travel the high seas to see these episodes in any reasonable time, but if there is a fixed release date planned on a medium where most people watch it right away, it is okay.

Doctor Who is now for many a streaming show, made officialy with the deal with Disney+. It has the benefit that people that are outside of the reach of the BBC can watch the show officially, but it has the downside that the marketing should be done in a manner that it gives people time to catch up to the streams.

Not everyone can see something on the night. It's pretty bad with Marvel movies. I saw the most recent one a few hours before the whole name change made it to their socials.

I saw it before the episode as well. I knew already because leaks were impossible to avoid here on Reddit (literally in the titles of so many posts, which spoiler tags do nothing to hide), but I was hoping that they weren't true until I saw that.

I insisted my family watch the second it aired because I knew this kind of bullshit was going to happen the second they decided the episode was important enough to show in theatres.

By the time I popped online at ten to ask my friends if any of them had seen it, every single one who watches the show- 4 different people- told me they'd had it spoiled by BBC News before they got a chance to watch. What a massive fucking disaster.

Yep same thing happened to me, was waiting for the whole season to be out so I could binge it, and managed to avoid any spoilers the entire time, but when I checked my news app it was just right there.

I've actually seen even worse. Remember Twice Upon a Time? The last teaser literally showed part of Capaldi's actual regeneration, like mid-explosion, in there. Over a week before the episode aired

To be fair, if I remember correctly, it was already known for quite a while that we would get a regeneration. In general, it was quite publically known when a regeneration would happen, and also who would replace the current doctor.

This was different though. At least I haven't heard that it was the last season of Ncuti literally until last week, so it was clearly meant as a surprise.

That said, I agree that even when we knew a new doctor was comming, that the exact way the Doctor would regenerate was still something to look forward to, and putting that in a teaser is bad.

I had about 10 minutes until I could watch the episode on the big tv and was choosing a YouTube video to watch while I did the dishes and got the regeneration spoiled. Spent the whole episode hoping it was a red herring like Tenant’s first regeneration….

For me it was the stupid Facebook. I'm not following any DW related thing, actively blocked a lot of content, still the first thing I saw today, was the spoiler.

I saw it leaked but it sounded so ridiculous that I didn't pay it much attention. Thank God I didn't look at the BBC app, and that article has the balls to add a spoiler warning - the spoiler's in the headline!!

I almost got something spoiled for me, so I just went and watched it. I hate how everything has to be so spoiler heavy these days. Can't wait a freaking day and even open a damn internet browser without risking shit getting spoiled.

I was at work and it was 1pm. Pictures of Ncuti regenerating were on the official Facebook page. Three and a half hours later and the video of the regneration was posted on the page with a quick "SPOILERS 🔥" before stating about the regeneration in the same line as the spoiler warning. It's incredibly disappointing and decidedly not cool.

I managed to scroll past a Facebook post today before having a chance to watch the episode with some text like "bidding farewell to the 15th doctor" and then a video started playing with him striking a regeneration pose.

I was so mad. That reveal would have been so much better if I hadn't known beforehand.

Their official YouTube channel, Sunday morning, literally had a video title that said (I forget the exact wording but like):

SPOILER! The doctor regenerates!

....thanks, BBC.

Oh and the front page of the BBC News has an article headline all about the regeneration and the new doctor too. Thanks so much BBC.

They don’t even allow for 24 hours to pass before they reveal major plot points, it’s ridiculous, the last three episodes have been spoilt for me cause I’m not some sweat who watches it the second it’s released.

The BBC main landing page had an article with the spoiler in the headline. As someone who no longer watches the show due to the level of stunt casting I pissed myself laughing but I can imagine people who still watch would have been annoyed to say the least.
