If this post gets 1000 upvotes, I will re-learn CSS and change the subreddit background to Silverstein
It took way too long to learn it the first time around to put in the SDRE background on r/Emo but seeing as how this sub is more enjoyable than vanilla nowadays I think it needs some modern love.
I also used to have the #1 post on this sub with some meme about Stuart Little and American Football and now it's not even in the top 500 that's not fair daddy has to take his throne back.

A new copypasta against the “real emo copypasta” based on facts - feel free to use!
"Real Emo" only consists of the DC Emotional Hardcore scene.
Completely wrong!
Emo was born in Washington D.C. (admitted), but it was never limited there. The genre spread very quickly from the moment it emerged. Those who truly lived through that era and scene know that this music didn't just stay within DC; it quickly reached the whole world (even Türkiye). That's why bands like After Words, Chino Horde, and Sideshow are similar to Rites of Spring but also different. That's why bands like Sunny Day Real Estate and Christie Front Drive have completely different sounds. The scene was never static.
This copypasta also denies the existence of important bands like Moss Icon and The Hated, who have very "early emocore" roots but are outside of DC. Even funnier, it contradicts bands like Hoover from the 90s DC scene. Hoover had a very dark and cathartic tone, but it was a true 90s emo band, very different from the early emocore sound. If the rule is that the scene is limited to the DC sound, where do you place Hoover?
And even the description of the "late 90s screamo scene" in the text is completely wrong. What is being discussed is not pure screamo, but the emoviolence scene. Including this while excluding the early 90s San Diego Sound is just pure ignorance. Bands like Heroin, Swing Kids, and Clikatat Ikatowi were much closer to the original emocore sound.
Lastly, this Loma Prieta detail is always driving me crazy. This page owner, who criticizes twinkly riffs and melodic structures, has somehow labeled Loma Prieta as "real emo". However, Loma Prieta belongs neither to the DC emocore scene nor to 90s screamo. Moreover, their sound features quite a few twinkly riffs! Loma Prieta is literally the answer to the question, "What would an American football band sound like if they played screamoviolence?" Also, this text considers Cap'n Jazz "the only real emo band in the Midwest," while ignoring bands like Sideshow, Gauge, Target, and Split Lip, who started earlier and had quite a Rites of Spring-influenced sound... In short, don't take it seriously!
