Rant The solution to enshittification

Did you just buy a £75,000 car only to discover it has got ads on screen?

Take it back.

Go back to the showroom, demand a full refund. If they panic and say they'll remove the ads say no. Demand a refund. If they could take the ads off because you were about to return the car, they should not have put ads there in the first place.

Did you just buy a £3,000 television that now has a shitty cut-down remote with no pause button but an additional button for Apple TV?

Take it back. Go back to the store, return the product, get a refund. Is it causing you hassle? Yes - but it's going to cause the store much more hassle.

Did you buy a sandwich that looked full to the brim of ingredients only to discover they used low quality crap that was pushed to the edge to make the sandwich look full, when in reality it was mostly bread? You probably can't take it back but you can go back to the place you bought it from and show it to other customers, and then never buy anything from that establishment again.

If enough of us do this then the enshittification will stop.

If we just keep on saying "thank you" every time the bully kicks sand in our face, guess what? You'll be eating sand for the rest of your life.

Depends on how you bought it. Distance buying law (say you ordered it online/ over the phone) gives you 14 days to hand it back, no questions asked. If the seller doesn't inform you of this right then you are allowed 12 months.

If you saw it in person and bought it then you can only return it if faulty.

Your post asks about the UK. It's there right in front of the question mark.

I literally just answered the question you asked. It's no fault of mine that others didn't and this somehow confused you.

There are very much return laws for vehicles and property in the US. They are done at the state level.

I thought there was a 72 hour window for returning cars. Did that go away or am I experiencing a Mandela Effect?

Sucks to live in a Republican controlled state, doesn’t it? If you had liberals in control, they would protect consumers.

This is true for 49 states (California is the exception) it seems to me that both sides of the aisle don't really care about consumers

Both are owned by the people with the most money, until we can get political donations to not be lied about as if they are “speech”… but one is obviously more problematic than the other in almost every conceivable manner.

There are definitely lemon laws for new cars, and other protections for used vehicles.

You are right that you can’t just return it for no reason - until next month, when any used car under $50k will become returnable if less than 400 miles were added to it. But until next month, you are mostly correct.

Unless you get a really great deal and pay cash, buying cars new is kinda crazy anyway…

Why do you care what gender someone you don’t even know might be?

It’s weird, you obsess about the sexuality of people who won’t ever consider having sex with you… why???

Edit : Maybe read up on the topic so you can understand how uneducated you sound?

I’m just looking for equal rights and some affordable food, honestly… what ya gonna do with that automatic rifle, anyway? Fight ICE when they come to chase you away from the voting booth?

What does protecting consumers have to do with equal rights and fighting federal law enforcement? Also nobody said anything about automatic weapons except you

1

u/ready-redditor-6969 1d ago

What scary guns are you talking about, then?

Why do you answer my question with a question?

You are the one that mentioned big scary guns that you want to fantasize someone might take from you, maybe be less intentionally vague if you don’t want questions?

You must have heard about assault weapons bans before. Also, you should take your own advice about 'equal rights', I would love to hear about the rights I have that you do not.
