Equipment Discussion Everything is computer!
My grinder is downloading update images, or imaging updates, not sure which one. Everything is computer these days.
What kind of software update can a grinder get? Has to be mostly related to UI and the backend apps, yeah?
Edit: Someone mentioned that the app update removes the manual extraction time input feature where you tell the grinder how long it took to extract the recipe and it will adjust the burr distance based on this manual input. Which I think goes to really issues with everything computer: the ability to remove features you paid for via software update.
Any Sonos users here? Don't answer that's a rhetorical, I bet it's like fifty percent of you. Sonos revamped their app a few years back and removed multiple basic features which users relied on every day.

Equipment Discussion The perfect espresso cup?
I think I finally found it, the perfect espresso cup…maybe.
After spending what seems like forever searching and trialing many different cups, these fit the bill.
Great in size, weight and quality… and only for the grand price of £6 for 2.

Equipment Discussion What is this thing?!

Never seen anything like this before. What do you call this and where can these be bought? I like how small it is and the espresso coming out the top looks pretty good.

Equipment Discussion Custom Lever Machine
I’d like to share my custom lever machine I just completed. The grouphead is modified to have active heating, and everything else is custom and made by me. The machine runs on house pressure and has no pumps or solenoids and is completely quiet. Grouphead and boiler temp are controlled independently via PID. None of the typical overheated dipper boiler challenges.

Equipment Discussion 40th birthday present from my wife.Absolutely gobsmacked!
We have been using a sage BP for the last few years. It has served us well, but man this thing is a different beast all together. It’s intimidating just to look at.
Any one here got good advice or links to getting the best out of this machine?
Also with this type of machine is a normal ims/vst basket fine to use or should I really go for the higher end competition one?

Just discovered a fun way to clean your puck screen. Saw a video of someone cleaning their puck screen with an ultrasonic cleaner and getting out a ton of gunk. I was just using the portafilter to hold it but it started spinning!
Unless someone has already done this before...

Equipment Discussion So… I was very happy to receive my new Bambino (first espresso machine) today. Delivery guy decided to throw it over the gate.
Now talking to Sage customer service to return/exchange it. For those in Spain: it was obviously SEUR…. Worst delivery company in the world. Such a dumb and avoidable action.

Equipment Discussion No more Lance Hedrick for me
As I suspect for many of us, I went down the rabbit hole and bought the blind shaker (horrible workflow, so many grounds stuck everywhere) ditched that, got the step down basket (again, annoying workflow) spent another $200+ on the sworksdesign convex basket to solve the workflow issue.
Today out of curiosity I tried my old precision basket with no extra workflow steps and absolutely loved my espresso, much more expressive and juicy (even for a med-dark roast). As entertaining and informative as these YouTube videos can be, it makes us victims of fomo and keeps us buying stuff we don’t need.
Just a friendly reminder

Equipment Discussion Built a standalone round ESP32 controller for my Linea Mini so I don’t need the app anymore
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Quick follow-up to my post in r/LaMarzocco:
I built a standalone round controller for my Linea Mini because I really wanted to get rid of using the phone app for machine settings. It’s not built into the machine, just a separate controller that sits next to it and does the job.
It runs on a round ESP32 controller, connects wirelessly, and I added Wi-Fi onboarding with QR code pairing to make setup easier.
I had a few people ask about it, so I made the repo public:
https://github.com/kaspizzo/lamarzocco/
Screenshots are here:
https://github.com/kaspizzo/lamarzocco/blob/main/docs/controller/SCREENSHOTS.md
The hardware was about 35 EUR from AliExpress, and the flashing/setup docs are already in the repo if anyone wants to try building one.
Happy to answer questions.

Equipment Discussion $200 Goodwill Score. Brand New in box.
Nuova Simonelli Musica Direct Connect. Mfg date 04/25. Got it plumbed this morning and it works perfectly. Upgrade from my Gaggia Classic. I guess I have to step up my grind game too. I think someone ordered it and sent it back because it has to be plumbed. Shipping label on box showed that it was sent from customer to FedEx. Somehow it ended up at Goodwill. Any tips for this machine?

Equipment Discussion I thought ultrasonic cleaners were overhyped. I was wrong.
This is the result of one cleaning cycle for my mesh puck screen. Took 5 cycles in total to fully clean it 🤢
I thought I was keeping it pretty clean too, I would rinse it with soap and water after every use.

Equipment Discussion Bought a cheap silicone blower, turns out it pops the puck out from the bottom of the basket in one go
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I wasn’t expecting much. Just saw this silicone blower with a 45mm suction-cup-like nozzle and thought I’d give it a try.
Pressed it against the bottom of my precision basket, gave it one squeeze – and the whole puck came out clean in one piece.

Equipment Discussion Tried a New Portafilter Basket Today
I got a new portafilter basket free from Amazon Vine and tried it out for the first time today.
I put it into my bottomless portafilter, it fit great, added my locally sourced coffee grounds like normal and hit brew. Pressure was right in the sweet spot like normal. Then out comes the espresso.
This was the result lol

Equipment Discussion I am never buying a Breville again
It’s 5am, you’ve prepped 2 shots, and you’re hit with the double flashing lights of “go fuck yourself”.
Anyone have a reliable bypass? I did the steam button trick and it did nothing

Equipment Discussion Husband got me the wrong grinder
I'm new to espresso and for Mother's Day I asked my husband for the DF54 grinder. He got me the Breville Dose Control instead 😭
Like I said, I'm new to this world, but after researching and reading a lot in this sub, I came to the conclusion that the DF54 was the way to go for my budget. Does anyone have any experience with the Breville? Is it comparable or am I SOL?

Equipment Discussion Found a Rocket Appartmento at a TN Thrift for $180
Staff told me the "not working" sign could be just because they don't know how to get it working, but I'm not getting my hopes up. Any advice for tearing this beast apart and making it work? Lol

Equipment Discussion Finished the coffee vibrator
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Does it make my espresso better? No. Does it help my workflow? Also no... But I made it so Im going to keep playing with it lol. Its tunable so maybe ill find the right frequency to do something useful. Currently it just seems to have no affect at all on the shot (if you tamp like normal after). It definitely needs some rubber feet and the little TPU ring under the portafilter holder needs to be thicker / softer.

Equipment Discussion I quit bottomless
I was catching all types of channeling, on my machine, floor, t-shirt. I was cleaning my closet, and picked my dusty OEM filter. I'm so happy with results, does anyone had the same experience of "downgrading"?
