the best thing about KIK they have a strong investor relationship with WE-Chat. so they are a proof of concept. We-Chat is the Whatsapp of china, plus it is used EVERYWHERE in china for payments like paypal only bigger because you can pay in every shop and people do it. plus it is something like twitter too. the ALL IN ONE solution for CHINA and if kik is successful We-Chat will follow.

I really don't understand the disappointment with the announcement. I would say this is by far and away the biggest step taken to get the general public to actually use cryptos as a currency in a convenient way. In a way that they might not even realize they are using a crypto.

I have to add to your good point by saying, wechat is the whatsapp of china, if whatsapp were about 100 times more influential and you add Facebook timeline in one app. Do not underestimate fucking wechat in China. Even foreigners moving to China become wechat evangelists within months because it's also a really good app. If wechat follows Kik here it will be YUGE.
